The Internet has become the best innovative driver in the fourth industrial revolution, transforming businesses into a technological era with speed and cost-effectiveness. E-commerce is one of the modern business strategies used by many companies to expand their market without limiting its geographical boundaries. This business strategy was initially used by companies in developed countries and eventually adopted by developing countries. Sri Lanka is a developing country and e-commerce penetration is far below other countries in the region. Perceived benefits, transformational leadership, and competitive pressure are the influencing factors of e-commerce adoption. The Technology-Organization-Environment and Diffusion of Innovations theories were used as the base of this research, and 350 samples were collected from the senior managers of SMEs. All factors significantly influenced e-commerce adoption and that positively affected the organisational performance of SMEs in Sri Lanka.

Alfred D. Chandler, Jr., has maintained that the persistence of the personally managed firm in Britain may be a cause of that nation's long-run industrial decline. This article contributes to the debate over decline through a detailed exploration of the business role of personally managed firms in a strategic sector of the Second Industrial Revolution: the metal and metal-making trades of Sheffield. Our study shows that the business strategies of Sheffield firms, based on quality production and flexible technology, had close similarities to those of American companies described by scholars such as Philip Scranton. Many of the Sheffield firms were not lacking in enterprise; they demonstrated tenacity and, in certain key segments of the metal trades, enjoyed a high degree of business success. Our examination of personal capitalism in Sheffield suggests that the terms of the debate over Britain's industrial decline may require further refinement.

The subject of research is the process of forming new business strategies of enterprises and the development of outsourcing as a condition for increasing competitiveness in the markets of Europe and Ukraine. Methodology. Theoretical and methodological basis of the study is the theory of systems, the theory of economic development, scientific developments of foreign and domestic models on the business strategy formation of enterprises, economic development of European countries. General scientific and special methods were used to achieve a specific goal, in particular: the methods of economic and financial analysis; statistical and economic method, including comparison, as well as the graphical method. Conclusion. Thus, in the context of globalization, all countries and their businesses are looking for new forms of international cooperation, including outsourcing. The effectiveness of outsourcing business strategies is confirmed by global practice, which shows that currently more than half of European companies use outsourcing in their activities. There is a unique opportunity for Ukraine and its regions to take advantage of international outsourcing due to the possible positioning in today's market both as a provider of outsourcing services and as a customer. In the first case, this can be achieved through an attractive ratio of high skills and low wages, a satisfactory level of infrastructure development, and in the second case – by getting access to cheaper or rare resources, new technologies, best business practices, which forms the basis for the transition of Ukrainian enterprises to innovative development. Outsourcing is an effective way of doing business, given the benefits and opportunities that the customer company receives when using it. The business model of innovative outsourcing is an important direction of modern business development in the global marketplace. Nowadays, personnel outsourcing is an effective tool for improving the performance of any enterprise, taking into account the above-mentioned advantages and limitations that the customer receives in their application. However, outsourcing should not be considered a universal tool for solving issues and problems of enterprises, as there are tasks that can not be entrusted to independent professionals. Any business strategy of the enterprise must be consistent with the probable risks.

The aim of the study was to determine the nature of the alignment between people management effectiveness, business strategy and organisational performance within the banking and insurance sector in South Africa. From the field study, it was evident that the majority of the participating companies fell short of people management best practices and were therefore unable to support their business strategies, which were in line with best practices. The organisational performance data was insufficient to determine the nature of the alignment between organisational performance, people management, and business strategy. The South African banking and insurance industry needs to realign their people management component to support the appropriate business strategy and to produce a desired level of organisational performance.

Crisis, in whatever form it takes, is a challenge for modern business. The challenge lies in the fact that a company is prepared to balance the difficult conditions that are created, while preserving their business interest and efficiency. Thus, companies focus only on their perceived fixed bases, those that are in the internal environment such as the human capital. The need for better human resource management is more urgent than ever, and the burden on the business department is particularly great. The aim of this qualitative research is to highlight the strategies that were developed by agri-food companies in Greece and contribute to the maintenance and motivation of employees in the context of economic crisis. The methodology of this study is based on in depth interviews that were conducted in focus group discussion. Eleven companies from the agri-food sector in the region of Central Greece participated in the research. The executives highlighted three different strategies that were developed by agri-food companies in Greece, which focused on internal mobility, training and appraisal performance. Companies had to face different difficulties to use these strategies, but most of them proved that they can face their weaknesses and apply these strategies in a turbulent period like a financial crisis.

The current phenomenon of the economy-accelerated digitalization, known as the “Industry 4.0”, will generate both an increased productivity, connectivity and several transformations on the labor force skills. Our research objectives are to determine the influence that digitalization has had on the workforce in several developed countries and to propose a new composite indicator that reflects these dynamics over time. We have used the Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) in order to identify and analyze the correlations between two sets of variables, an independent one and a dependent one. Data were collected from the World Bank and World Economic Forum for the years 2018–2019. Based on the results of our research we have determined and made a consistent analysis of the new composite index of digitalization and labor force in 19 countries. The results of our research are relevant and show not only the impact of digitalization on the labor force in different countries, but also the structural changes required by the new economic and social models. Our research can help decision-makers get in advance the necessary measures in the field of labor force in order to ensure a proper integration of these measures into the new economic model based on digitalization.
