Higher education management problems in delivering 100% of graduates who can satisfy business demands. In industry it is often difficult for qualified graduates to identify the appropriate means to evaluate problem - solving abilities as well as shortcomings in the evaluation of problem solving skills. This is partially due to the lack of an adequate methodology. The purpose of this paper is to provide the appropriate CBR-KBS model for predicting and evaluating the characteristics of the student's dataset so as to comply with the parameters of selection required by the university industry. Machine learning algorithms have been used in these study areas under supervision, uncompleted and uncontrolled; K-Nearest neighbor, Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, Neural Network, Logistic Regression and Vector Support Machines. The proposed model would allow university management to make easier, more professional, experienced and industry-specific plans for the manufacturing of graduates and graduates who passed the type I and II examinations held by the employment opportunities.

AbstractThis study focuses on e orts to solve the problems of the low abil- ity students in solving di culties in learning Indonesian language as a subject ma er. The objective of this research is directed at ef- forts of explaining the in uence of Case-based Reasoning (CBR) in the learning towards the students’ problem-solving abilities. The method is a quasi-experimental research focusing on students of MA (Madrasah Aliyah or Islamic Senior High School) in one of the districts in West Java, where the learning in the control class using the Problem Based Learning (PBL). The research showed that the students’ problem-solving abilities by using CBR model is 44% in the high interpretation and by 56% in the moderate interpretation. Whereas the learning using the PBL model is 28% in the high inter- pretation, 56% in the medium interpretation, and 16% in the low interpretation. The value obtained through testing the hypothesis is z-score = -3089 smaller than z-table = -1.64. It means that Ho is refused and Ha is accepted. It further means that there is a sig- ni cant di erence between the problem-solving ability of students of using CBR model in learning and the students using PBL model in learning. The conclusion of this study indicates that the use of CBR model (designed for the study) has proved to give an e ect to the problem-solving skills of students learning Indonesian subject.

This article explores the benefits of using the I-Think map to enhance student performance in the Tamil alphabet. Understanding, cognition, and problem-solving skills using the I-Think graphic system will be taught in the form of essays at the end of a teaching session or test for Tamil language lessons. This study looks at how increased training for students' achievement in the essay subject using the I-Think map. Furthermore, this study examines the extent to which students' acceptance towards the I-Think map of the teaching and language learning process and the implications of the use of the map enhance student achievement in fourth year Tamil subjects. 28 students were sampled for the study. The findings of this study show that students can also improve their scores in Tamil by learning the algorithm for using I-Think graphic learning strategies. The writing energy strategy at the end of the study was a useful keyword. Not only the teacher but also the students can get a better learning instruction if used in the lesson in the classroom.

This study aims to produce teaching materials to improve problem-solving skills that are feasible to use as a class XII physics learning media on sound wave material. In addition, it is also to find out the response of students to teaching materials developed in terms of meeting the standards of usability and quality. This research is R & D research with design according to Borg including: needs analysis, product planning and development, product development, product evaluation, and final products. The instructional materials developed have been implemented in 63 students of class XII SMAN 5 Semarang. Data collection is done by giving a validation sheet to the senior teacher. Data on students 'problem solving abilities were obtained from the results of the pretest and posttest while the students' performance was seen from the observation of practical activities in the laboratory. Students are also given a questionnaire to provide input on the teaching materials that have been developed. The results of the study indicate that the product of development is declared feasible based on expert judgment. Implementation of teaching materials in physics learning in sound wave material is able to improve problem solving skills and student performance.

The IMMEX (Interactive Multi-Media Exercises) Web-based problem set platform enables the online delivery of complex, multimedia simulations, the rapid collection of student performance data, and has already been used in several genetic simulations. The next step is the use of these data to understand and improve student learning in a formative manner. This article describes the development of probabilistic models of undergraduate student problem solving in molecular genetics that detailed the spectrum of strategies students used when problem solving, and how the strategic approaches evolved with experience. The actions of 776 university sophomore biology majors from three molecular biology lecture courses were recorded and analyzed. Each of six simulations were first grouped by artificial neural network clustering to provide individual performance measures, and then sequences of these performances were probabilistically modeled by hidden Markov modeling to provide measures of progress. The models showed that students with different initial problem-solving abilities choose different strategies. Initial and final strategies varied across different sections of the same course and were not strongly correlated with other achievement measures. In contrast to previous studies, we observed no significant gender differences. We suggest that instructor interventions based on early student performances with these simulations may assist students to recognize effective and efficient problem-solving strategies and enhance learning.

Abstract The hands-on ability and problem-solving skills have always been an essential requirement of engineering graduates, while there is an increased demand on the data processing skills recently. To improve such abilities for students, an elective course, sensor technology and signal processing, is introduced to the mechanical engineering undergraduate program. A combination of the lectures and lab activities is completed, where students learn the essential theory and structure of sensors and algorithms in signal processing, such as fast Fourier transform (FFT), windowing, filtering, etc., while applying the knowledge in hands-on activities and design both the simulation and experiment process. Student performance is evaluated in programming assignments, project reports, and exams. Assessment results for problem-solving skills, hands-on activities, and programming skills are presented in the paper.
