An analysis was made of the educational and psychometric quality of standardized mathematics tests aimed at high school students. Trained raters judged most of such instruments available in the United States. Tests were categorized into four areas: general mathematics (N=322), applied mathematics (N=26), algebra (N=122), and geometry (N=52). Results showed many tests to be low in common types of validity and reliability. General mathematics had, as a rule, tests with higher ratings than did the other content areas. Several implications were drawn from the study. Researchers in mathematics education should carefully analyze all aspects of tests to find those congruent with a given research need. Test developers should make renewed efforts to enhance the technical quality and curricular relevance of their products.

Not all of the ability to write narrative essays from Bengkulu 4 High School students still obtained good criteria. This is thought to be caused by the low mastery of the vocabulary. For this reason, testing of the correlation between vocabulary mastery and narrative essay writing skills is needed. The purpose of this study is to: 1) describe the level of mastery of Indonesian vocabulary, 2) describe the level of narrative essay writing ability, and 3) determine whether there is a significant relationship between mastery of vocabulary mastery with narrative essay writing ability. The research method uses the correlation method. Data collection techniques using technical tests. The test instrument trial then the validity and reliability are calculated. Correlation analysis using the Product Moment formula. The results showed that there was a positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and narrative essay writing ability with a value of 0.724. This is also proved by mastering students 'vocabulary sufficiently and vice versa the results of students' narrative essay writing ability are also categorized sufficiently. This proves that the better the students' vocabulary mastery, the better the ability to write narrative essays.

There is a gap between the quantity and quality of research in Indonesia. It is assumed that the research skills of the researchers are still low. Meanwhile, research skills development still relies on the higher education level. Efforts are needed to develop research skills from an early age. This study aims to examine the use of APL in the authentic science approach to develop research skills of junior high school students. The quasi-experimental method was carried out by inviting 81 students from two classes of 7th grade in a state middle school in Bandung, Indonesia. They analyzed three Adapted Primary Literatures with the jigsaw and NHT models. Before and after learning, students took research skills tests. The research instrument has passed the validity and reliability tests. Descriptive and inferential analyses were done. The results of data analysis indicate that the use of APL in the authentic science approach in both learning models can develop students' research skills. Furthermore, the jigsaw model is more recommended to use. This study recommends the use of APL as a science learning resource to develop students' research skills as a beginning to introduce the scientific method.

The development and use of diagnostic tests in the form of multiple choice four levels in biology learning are still lacking. This study aims to develop a valid and reliable four-tier multiple-choice test instrument to identify the conception profile of high school students on the concept of transport across membranes. The research method is in the form of development research by adapting the Kilic and Saglam models which consist of three stages, namely defining content, obtaining information on student misunderstandings, and developing tests. The research instruments used were validation sheets, test instruments, and interview sheets. Descriptive statistical analysis techniques were used to analyze the data in this study. The results showed that 15 items developed were declared valid and the reliability coefficient of the test was 0.82, including the very reliable category. Thus, it can be concluded that the four-tier multiple-choice test instrument developed has met the validity and reliability requirements to identify the conception profile of high school students about the concept of transport across membranes. The four-tier multiple-choice test developed can be used by high school teachers as an accurate test to identify the conception profile of their students because it can distinguish between students who understand the concept, do not understand the concept, or who experience misconceptions about the concept of transport across membranes.
