This study aimed to articulate the critical issues related to talent management (TM). A critical literature review was performed to discuss the significance of TM in universities and its role in aligning higher education with industrial labour requirements. Relevant literature was obtained from an extensive search of human resource journals indexed with Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, EBSCO Information Services, ProQuest, and Emerald Insight databases. The findings revealed that TM supported the competitiveness and learning outcomes in the education sector. Furthermore, this study forwarded a novel conceptual framework for integrating higher education with industrial human capital needs. Based on the results, it is recommended that the integration of TM systems in universities and organisations can ensure the university graduates address the industry needs. Therefore, collaborative planning for talent supply management models in universities and industries is vital for developing academic TM systems that align with the extensive national economic, political, and social systems.

Today employers are the center of consumption for university graduates. But over the past decades, the higher education system has discrepancy for its target audience - society and the labor market. It is impossible to predict the progress of labor market, our society is still at the stage of reforming. The socio-economic sphere suffers from non-systemic transformations. Qualitative changes are taking place in the labor market, the preponderance of specialists in some areas of training, while there is a colossal shortage of other specialists. Graduates remain unclaimed after graduation. Graduates are embarking on a continuous learning trajectory, but problems create a gap between the parties of the same system - the university, employers and graduates. Often employers show excessively high demands on graduates. The competencies of future financial managers are building up without taking into account the need for the real sector. Consumers of the higher education system remain dissatisfied with the quality of graduates, manufacturers have no connection with the labor market to provide the necessary competencies. The personnel policy of most Russian organizations is focused mainly on achieving current results without long-term development. Universities should build their educational process for the future based on labor`s demands. There is a gap between the two systems, which must work in a strong bond. There is no government regulation of direct and feedback between the educational services market and employers' requests. Therefore, universities should make collaborations with employers by themselves. The author conducted a study of employers, which revealed the main forms and indicators of collaboration between the university system and employers. The level of potential involvement in the system of cooperation with employers, possible options and directions of joint activities in the field of student recruitment, organization of practice and the formation of competencies to improve efficiency have been determined. The article is intended for heads of educational organizations, teachers, employers.

The study specified the research dimension features in the management concepts that were used to manage the education institutions in Ukraine. It identified how the specified features correlated with the management approaches such as reputational, processoutcome-oriented, and standard-oriented that are found in different types of higher education institutions. It revealed how the features of every concept were represented in the institutional constituent documents such as the University Statute and to what extent the institution stakeholders were aware of how the research was managed in their institutions. The study was explorative and used qualitative methods to collect data obtained from the participants’ opinions. It included two phases such as a systematic review and a survey. The systematic review of the relevant literature and the institutional constituent documents identified the features of the research dimension in the management concepts. It was also found that the criteria of the research effectiveness management are reputational, namely: process-outcome-oriented (qualimetric), and standard-oriented (relativistic).

Mentoring has received considerable attention from scholars, and in the relevant literature, a number of studies give reference to the mentoring programs developed at universities and to the mentoring relations in higher education. Yet, most of these studies either only have a theoretical basis or deal with the mentoring relationships between academic advisors and undergraduate or masters’ students. Very few studies have been conducted so far on the mentoring or protégé experiences of academicians in the university setting, and the relationships between career satisfaction and career success. The aim of the current study is to examine the effect of mentoring on career success and career satisfaction of faculty members in Turkish higher education system. Participants included 445 faculty members from various universities in Turkey. The results of the study reveal that academic and psychosocial mentoring have an impact on faculty members’ career satisfaction and career success. Also, psychosocial mentoring affects career success more compared to academic mentoring.

Diponegoro University (Undip) is one of the state universities (PTN) in Indonesia which has experienced three changes in its financial management status, ranging from PTN Working Unit (1960) and PTN Public Service Agency (2008) to PTN Legal Entity. The status of PTN Legal Entity was legalized in 2015 and operated in 2017. The implementation of three pillars of higher education and institutional development have been confronted with funding factors and commitment from all components of higher education. The need of stakeholders for university graduates continuing to develop their competencies made this university moved its campus center to Tembalang. This move had a variety of environmental impacts both inside and outside the campus. Various efforts continued to be made by the university to overcome the environmental impacts. Undip’s participation in the green campus ranking based on GreenMetric World University Ranking since 2012 was an effort so that the university could find out the consistency of sustainable environmental management to maintain a sustainable environment for the benefits of the next generation. This paper focuses on the analysis of environmental management developed by Undip to realize a 'green campus'. The conclusion of this research underlines that Undip needed to optimize all efforts.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine established leadership paradigms in the context of institutions of higher education. The old ways of running a college, which might have worked several decades ago, no longer work in the age of flux characterized by super-fast breakthroughs due to technology and the internet. Organizational change is especially difficult in academe where many faculty are tenured and satisfied with the status quo. Design/methodology/approach This paper examines and synthesizes the relevant literature in leadership and higher education administration, focusing on critical issues and recommendations to ensure the long-term viability and relevance of colleges and universities. It also describes meaningful metrics that should be monitored by university leaders to strengthen their institutions. Findings Some of the findings are as follows: the old ways of running an institution of higher learning need to be overhauled; colleges and universities need leaders who can transform their institutions into learning organizations where knowledge is shared; and leaders must have the ability to tap into their organization’s intellectual capital and creativity. In addition, several new metrics are needed for evaluating the leadership of a college of university, including vision, employee engagement, student satisfaction and image/reputation. Originality/value This study provides an original approach to reform colleges and universities and enable them to thrive in the age of chaos and disruption.

Embedding entrepreneurship into the university mission and culture in developing countries is key to national economic growth and social development. Therefore, having a better understanding of university-based entrepreneurial ecosystems considered as benchmark cases is a good start to introduce to the topic. For such reason, the objective of this chapter is to describe the situation of the entrepreneurial ecosystem at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Guadalajara, Mexico, its leading actors and roles, and how they have been relevant to promote entrepreneurial initiatives among higher education students, alumni, and faculty members. Along with the case description and based on a previous study, the authors present a comparison of Tecnologico de Monterrey case with four universities' entrepreneurial ecosystems. Findings suggest that the strategy followed to promote university-based entrepreneurship depends on the internal capabilities of each institution and the capacity of the region to support it.

This paper explores the perception of Bahraini graduates from the University of Bahrain on the speaking skills they acquired in EFL courses in higher education and to what extent it served them in job interviews and at work. The study employed an online survey to collect data from Bahrainis who have graduated from the University of Bahrain in the last five years, and 214 responses were collected. The results showed that the majority of participants thought that university EFL courses should focus more directly on English speaking skills as they affected their success in job interviews and for work. According to the participants, the three major obstacles to improving English speaking skills required for increasing employability in EFL courses were that these courses were mostly based on indoctrination, that students rarely found a chance to talk in class and also that topics were far from verbal communication needs at work. The study suggested some in-class strategies for improving English speaking skills and also recommended either making speaking a compulsory graded component of EFL courses and/or adding a compulsory English speaking course to the university programmes.
