Sustainable consumption practices help to reduce environmental impacts and fosters responsible consumers. Researchers have explored the positive drivers and negative barriers of fashion-conscious consumer (FCC) purchasing intention on fashion clothing. The study also examined the motives and outcomes of the phenomenon, such as rental landscape and frugality. Using the qualitative phenomenological method, researchers conducted 21 in-depth semi-structured interviews in India to tap into FCC's buying intention and experience. From the results of qualitative analysis, researchers identified “emotion” as a new parameter reflecting consumer passion and interpersonal relationships. Different themes emerged, such as selection of the style, attention-seeking, status value, cost factor (uncontrollable), and psychological value, which are the commonly identified motivators. Conceptual framework is developed to understand the perception towards green environment and sustainability. The implications are to improve the sustainable practices in the fashion sector through rental options and frugality.

The objective of the following article is to carry out a review of the literature in academic texts and official documents resulting from various international conferences that deal with topics related to environmental education, sustainable development and sustainable consumption. A selection of the most important milestones in the evolution of environmental education is carried out, making a tour in history since 1949 from the first Research of Unesco, to the most recent summit Rio+20 in 2012; subsequently, the article will describe the actions for environmental education that Chile is performing according to the documentation, revised and existing national legislation, in school settings (formal education) and citizenship training (non-formal education). It is stated that the task of consumer education in Chile is only partially channeled by a government agency, which provides guidelines for responsible consumption. It is concluded with this review that in Chile the environmental education for sustainable consumption and development has a formed base that progresses slowly and that, in accordance with the revised documentation, should materialize to a greater extent, in projects and programs for the benefit of the country’s natural and social scene. Thus, it would also be relevant that there is a formal curriculum addition, where emphasis is placed on mandatory contents of environmental education and, in turn, a specialization of teachers in this discipline.

Stigma is generally defined as a sign of shame or discredit, which prevents the formation of normal relationships in the patient's life and leads to discrimination. Skin diseases often lead to rejection of patients due to esthetic features and negative effect on their lives. The purpose of this study was to describe and explain the social stigma and rejection faced by patients with psoriasis. The criteria for inclusion of participants were: men and women with a by dermatologist diagnosed psoriasis; valid medical history in the Tambov Regional Dermatovenereological Clinical Dispensary; 6 months duration of the disease course; aged 14 years and older; voluntary desire to participate in the study; no history of mental disorders and acute somatic diseases. Respondents were selected using a sample with maximum variation to cover the largest possible range of viewpoints. In this sampling method, people are selected to participate in a qualitative study of their personal experience with the phenomenon being studied. In-depth semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. The present study shows that putting unfair labels on others was the experience of most participants, which led to psychological disorders or disruption of their interpersonal relationships. A sense of stigma leads to a decrease in self-esteem. Patients, as a rule, lived with fear, pain, uncertainty and hopelessness about the future, and also experienced feelings of rejection, discrimination, humiliation, prejudice, hatred and other negativity from others. The patients selected for the survey reported a pronounced sense of injustice as a result of communicating with people around them. It is obvious that stigmatization causes a violation of social interaction, suppresses the patient, causes a person to feel embittered, inferior, isolated and worthless, and also reduces his social status in the family and society. Participants in this study experienced poor family and social support. We found that there is no difference between men and women with psoriasis in terms of stigmatization and ostracism. Due to the obvious cosmetic side effects affecting both male and female bodies, psoriasis equally affects the stigmatization of both genders. We hope that the results of this study can be used to gain knowledge to solve problems, change the attitude of society, create motivation among researchers, create a good basis for qualitative research and ultimately contribute to improving the health of the population.

The scarcity of natural resources together with the exponentially increasing world population has made the sustainable consumption of food (SCF) a crucial issue, as it has impacts on a variety of environmental, health, economic, and social dimensions. Considering the rarity of a holistic view in previous studies, this study aims to assess the current situation in sustainable food consumption and develop suggestions from all aspects, depending on the opinions of experts. In this direction, semi-structured interviews are conducted with 25 experts from Turkey to frame the concept of SCF, reveal the level of consumers’ awareness, and provide suggestions to support SCF implications. Experts have considered SCF from ecologic, social, economic, and health perspectives; ecologic aspects being the most important, followed by economic and social perspectives. Deficits on the consumer side are lack of awareness, unplanned shopping, and mistakes in post-consumption behavior. Lack of awareness about the consequences of meat production, difficulties in changing lifestyles and lack of motivation of adults were identified barriers to SCF. Finally, suggestions of the experts for achieving sustainability are mostly relevant to raising awareness on balanced nutrition and food waste, with the help of training programs and the efficient use of communication channels, such as social media.

Family, a striking concept for society and culture, an important foundation of interpersonal relationships, shows changes and new models. The decision to have children is based on individual experience and achievement, no longer because of a need for a traditional nuclear family model. The study aimed to understand the experience of some family modalities in the decision to have and raise children. For this, the Gestalt Approach was chosen as the basis. The Gestalt-therapy look at the process, an integration that is never completed. The present research investigated three families models; single-parent, heterosexual and homosexual couple. The methodology used was phenomenological qualitative research. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with data analyzed by the Giorgi method. With the interviews, it was noticed that the arrival of the son brings uncertainties, questions, new divisions of tasks and resignations on the part of the families. We conclude that families experience similar experiences regardless of their model. Palavras-chave : Family; Parenthood; Qualitative phenomenological research; Gestalt therapy.

Studies dealing with the experiences of non-offending mothers from the general population and minority groups after their child’s disclosure of sexual abuse are scarce, and studies on mothers from the Jewish ultra-Orthodox community are non-existent. This study takes an initial step in filling this gap by exploring how the normalization of sexual abuse shapes these mothers’ experiences. A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted on a sample of 21 mothers from the ultra-Orthodox sector whose children had been sexually abused. It consisted of in-depth, semi-structured interviews of the mothers followed by a drawing task on their experience. The analysis of the interviews yielded four central themes: the role of social stigmatization and religion on the mother’s ability to share her child’s abuse; the effect of the disclosure on the mothers’ mental state and maternal competency; the mothers’ ongoing experience in the shadow of this unprocessed/unresolved trauma; and the mothers’ coping strategies, including acceptance, faith, and meaning making. The findings highlight the influence of the tension between the need to adhere to religious norms and preserve the social fabric and the need to enhance mothers’ and children’s well-being.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate whether Japanese manufacturing multinational enterprises (MNEs) maintain local legitimacy in their host countries through adequate informing of local stakeholders with targeted corporate sustainability (CS) reporting. Design/methodology/approach The paper first identified specific CS activities that were considered important in four Association of Southeast Asian Nations host countries, through semi-structured interviews with 58 participants of 16 Japanese manufacturing MNEs. The degree of establishment of local legitimacy was then measured through the number of references made to these CS activities and other activities specific to the respective host countries in the CS reports of the MNEs across a five-year period. Findings The majority of MNEs in the sample were under-reporting items of specific interest to localhost country stakeholders potentially undermining the MNEs’ image. There were found to be differences on the topics published in CS reports compared to those mentioned in the interviews indicating potential issues with regard to internal communication between the subsidiary and headquarters offices. Originality/value A novel approach is taken to investigate the degree of local legitimacy established by MNEs through comparing the contents of interviews held at subsidiaries with their respective CS reports. This paper highlights the importance of considering MNE subsidiaries when addressing Target 12.6 of the Sustainable Development Goal 12: responsible consumption and production.

Purpose The process of fashion design varies between market segments, yet these variations have not yet been properly explored. This study aims to examine the fashion design process as practised at the mass-market level, as this is the most vibrant and the largest market segment in terms of production volumes and sales. Design/methodology/approach It is observed that 15 semi-structured interviews were conducted with mass-market fashion designers. Key activities of the mass-market design process were identified and a comparative analysis was conducted with the general design process. Findings The mass-market design process is found to prioritise profits rather than aesthetic aspects, with the buyer exercising more power than the designer. This hinders creativity, which, in turn, may impede a move towards more environmentally benign designs. Originality/value The clothing industry is responsible for high environmental impacts and many of these impacts arise through decisions made in the design stage. In particular, the mass-market for clothing because of its high volume of sales and fast throughput, accounts for a great deal of the impact. However, little is understood about the design process that is practised in the mass-fashion market. This paper fills the gap by developing a framework that describes the mass-market design process. Understanding the design process will enable progress to be made towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
