The role of mutual trust in teaching a foreign language in higher education

The article is devoted to the psychological and pedagogical substantiation of the expediency of learning foreign languages while studying in the institution of higher education. The authors analyse the current educational process in Ukrainian and identify the most important factors influencing the formation of qualified professionals and establish the role of foreign language in each of these factors. It was found that studying can be extremely intensified due to learning a foreign language. It is established that learning foreign languages increases a person’s ability to develop intellectually. Higher Education in our country is changing in accordance to the processes of Europian integration that is supported by the government of Ukraine and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science. The urgency of the problem is enhanced by contradictions between: the objective need of society for teachers and researchers able to solve the problems of professional activities in Higher School institutions at the international level that are associated with modern trends of European nations to make in future a unified system of multilevel Higher Education, the need for close collaboration with foreign colleagues and the real situation with willingness of up-to date teachers and researchers for foreign language professional collaboration. The Purpose of the article – theoretical analysis of the role of intercultural professional competence in the training of future masters of Pedagogy of Higher School.Intercultural professional competence of future masters of Pedagogy of Higher School is considered to be the integrated personal and professional activities which refers to psycho-pedagogical willingness of an adult to perform professional activities successfully, productively and efficiently, using the foreign language or foreign culture and interact effectively in a foreign professional environments.According to the results of the theoretical analysis we note that the constituent components of the intercultural professional competence of future masters of Pedagogy of Higher School competence is formed on the basis of the interconnected socio-cultural, socio-linguistic and language development due to their age and psychophysical characteristics and due to their professional and personal interests on each stage of the intercultural professional competence of the masters. One of the main parts of intercultural professional competence is its connection with professional awareness of masters, their professional value, since it is about degree of formation of the level and style of communication of future teachers and researchers while conducting different professional activities. Further we considered learning of pedagogical conditions for the development of intercultural professional competence of future masters of Pedagogy of Higher School in formal and informal education.

Although different forms of English-medium instruction (EMI) are being recognised, the different ways in which EMI can impact the pedagogical activities and expertise of higher education educators have received less attention. Using face-to-face and written interviews with nine teacher educators at a Finnish university, this study examines the most important aspects teacher educators perceive in their work through EMI and how these aspects connect to the understanding of their professional identity. The study is theoretically premised on the interconnected concepts of pedagogical doing, pedagogical being, pedagogical relating, and pedagogical language awareness. The thematically analysed data highlighted the ways in which pedagogical being, doing, and relating revolve around the presence and role of the foreign language in EMI, as well as the concurrent disjunctures and opportunities EMI creates. Pedagogical being informed EMI teacher educators’ orientation to their work and the different ways language impinges on the sense of self as the teacher educators share how they try to understand and respond to the disjunctures of EMI. In terms of pedagogical doing, EMI impinges on how teacher educators enact their practice and the relationships developed with students. However, the focus of pedagogical relating addresses the relationship between the EMI teacher educators and their workplace. The findings from this study will hopefully contribute to the development of EMI teacher preparation and support critical discussions on the ‘Englishisation’ of higher education.


The article defined the role of Foresight-studies in the current conditions of higher education system development. Different types of Foresight-studies in different countries and their application for educational purposes are analyzed. Methods of conducting foresight research are revealed on the basis of which the most common among them are: Delphi method, SWOT analysis, Information flow analysis, Focus Group Technique, Expert Panels, Scenario Planning, Highlight Key Technologies, Technology Mapping, Development of Roadmaps, Source Scanning, “Analysis of Global Trends”, “PEST Analysis”, “Reverse Scenarios” etc. It is stated that the foresight can be called a technology of constructive attitude towards the future. It involves the development of a system of private forecasts in the most important areas of scientific and technological progress and a comprehensive forecast of scientific and technological development. The article gives examples of university Foresight-studies and their role in forming a modern specialist with forecasting skills. The focus of the study is pay special attention on the Foresight-study conducted at the School of Foreign Languages of V. N. Kharkiv National University entitled “Strategy for the Development of Education at The School of Foreign Languages”. The study was carried out using the Delphi method and included an online survey (digital questionnaire) created in Google forms and included two stages. The first stage was aimed at revealing the general direction of the development of the educational process, and the second stage was aimed at specifying teaching strategies that could be used in the future by the School of Foreign Languages. The survey was attended by 105 people who work or study at the university. It is established that the priority directions of development of educational process at the School of Foreign Languages may be: introduction of the latest digital technologies into the educational process; increase of teaching efficiency and distribution of time between participants of educational process (transformation of the role of the lecturer); communicative aspect through improvement of teaching methods at the School of Foreign Languages, namely the involvement of foreign language speakers in teaching and practice, conducting more foreign language activities, changing the criteria for assessing students’ success by foreign models.

This article deals with the main approaches of «gamification» as a new concept in the context of higher education, as well as an exceptional peculiarity of the phenomenon in enhancing motivation of the students majoring in law. Gamification is a relatively new branch of linguistic research. Multiple scientific works are currently dedicated to virtual reality as an integral and perspective part of education, which includes certain motivational mechanisms. Special emphasis is placed on the internal and external educational motivation of students. The ways to increase motivation through gamification in the educational process are introduced. Particular attention in the article is paid to the role of the English language teacher. One of the fundamental tasks of the teacher of the XXI century consists in the introduction of gaming technologies into teaching a foreign language. It is proven that the implementation of gamified teaching methods will lead to student engagement and better attitude towards the English language, since involvement into online educational content allows the students to enjoy the immediate results of their work and feel content for the points earned. The use of gamification tools in the system of learning a foreign language is an appropriate way to improve attendance and activity of law students.

In response to the increasing demand of learners for English as a language of international communication, issues related to the teaching of foreign language in higher education are being discussed. Effective forms and methods of teaching English-language auditing to students in higher education are being considered. The nature and role of the auditing process is noted. Audio texts that reflect real-life situations are described. Series selected and analyzed. The problems and difficulties encountered by students in learning to audit. Measures are recommended for the correct organization of the audition process in the classroom, the most effective approaches to developing the student’s confidence in listening to audio texts and the ability to understand foreign language speech.

The article considers the problem of the formation of professional mobility in the training of future specialists in non-linguistic universities, which has recently gained particular relevance due to the growing role of foreign language communication in the professional activities of future specialists.The requirements of higher education aimed at training competitive future specialists are taken into account. Foreign language education today becomes at the same level with professional education, integrates with it and significantly affects the success and competitiveness of future specialists in the labor market. This circumstance underlines the need to change the purpose, content, process and form of organization of the educational process of foreign language teaching. Actuality of the research topic is a result of the modernization of higher education and aimed at finding effective ways to train future specialists, meeting all the latest requirements of the labor market.The concept of “professional mobility” is considered. The role of foreign language in the formation of professional mobility in the training of future specialists in non-linguistic universities in the context of professional mobility is analyzed, the opportunities offered for higher education future specialists with foreign language skills are described.Modern higher education, as a channel of professional mobility, can help future specialists in vocational and personal development with professional mobility to become competent future specialists, creating specific pedagogical conditions and, thereby, the basis for their self-realization in the difficult social, economic, political conditions of society. The relevance of this article derives from the consideration of the problem of development of students’ intercultural communication skills under significant influence of the globalization process on the development of higher education system, especially in those universities where there is a rapid growth of the export of learning services. Foreign language is thought of as the main means of intercultural communication. The object of this paper is to analyze the process of formation of intercultural communication, modern value attitudes towards foreign culture and its bearers among students with allowance for the reality of learning experiences in an agricultural university. The consideration of this issue made it possible to determine modern methods and forms of work in practical classes in a foreign language which will facilitate a solution to the problem. The authors of the article point out that industrial work placement abroad is an effective tool to develop intercultural communication skills. The role of a teacher is considered to be a key one in the formation of students’ intercultural communication skills.

The article deals with the role of academic mobility in the credit system of higher education,with the use of level differentiation and a multi-level approach to teaching foreign languages. The article describes the international relations of the Mukimi KSPI and the peculiarities of its division into subgroups according to the level of language proficiency, which is the reason for the development of academic mobility.
