The determination of an external force is a very important task for the purpose of control, monitoring, and analysis of damages on structural system. This paper studies a stochastic inverse method that can be used for determining external forces acting on a nonlinear vibrating system. For the purpose of estimation, a stochastic inverse function is formulated to link an unknown external force to an observable quantity. The external force is then estimated from measurements of dynamic responses through the formulated stochastic inverse model. The applicability of the proposed method was verified with numerical examples and laboratory tests concerning the wave-structure interaction problem. The results showed that the proposed method is reliable to estimate the external force acting on a nonlinear system.

This article presents results of fire spalling tests on small concrete slabs and studies of material parameters that may increase its occurrence. Experimental techniques enabling to study and determination of material features are presented and discussed. Experimental studies on spalling behaviour of elements were carried out on seven different concrete mixes with constant content of cement paste and mortar. Research aimed at determining influence of the following parameters: w/c ratio (0.30; 0.45; 0.60), cement type (CEM I, CEM III) and type of aggregates (riverbed gravel, granite, basalt) on fire concrete spalling. Paper discusses also the influence of cold rim that forms while testing slab-like element is subjected to one-side heating.

In muscle force analysis, orientations and moment arms of the muscles about a joint provide essential coefficients in the equilibrium equations. For the determination of these parameters, several experimental techniques, including geometric measurement, tendon-joint displacement measurement and direct load measurement, are available. Advantages and disadvantages associated with each of the techniques are reviewed and compared based on our extensive experience.


Two Skylark rockets were launched from Woomera rocket range, Australia (31° S) on the morning and evening of 31 May 1968. Coordinated series of measurements of neutral atmospheric wind velocity, turbulent structure, temperature and density were made during each launch between 90 and 250 km altitude, combining the experimental techniques of the two groups involved. This paper attempts to construct from the combined measurements made on these occasions a dynamic picture of the interactions of atmospheric structure, and to relate the observations to previous results obtained by ourselves and other workers.
