The results are presented for the validation of a videotape as an analogous situation for a flight. The video includes the most significant elements of a flight by air: confirmation of the flight, packing, going to the airport, checking-in, going through the metal-detector, departure lounge, boarding the plane, demonstration of the personal safety drills, interiors and exteriors during the flight and landing. Two physiological measures are used for validation (heart rate and temperature) and a subjective measure (situational anxiety, SA). The results (both t-tests and the discriminant analysis) indicate that the videotape is able to discriminate between phobics and non-phobics of flying in the three variables considered. With respect to sensitivity in detecting change produced by various treatments in clients with phobia of flying, the results are also satisfactory. A greater differentiation is produced between the pre-post treatment measures, both in subjective and in the physiological measures.

This paper describes a design optimization to achieve optimal performance of a two novel single-phase short-stroke tubular linear permanent magnet motors (TLPMMs) with rectangular and trapezoidal permanent magnets (PMs) structures. The motors equipped with a quasi-Halbach magnetized moving-magnet armature and slotted stator with a single-slot carrying a single coil. The motors have been developed for reciprocating compressor applications such as household refrigerators. It is observed that the TLPMM efficiency can be optimized with respect to the leading design parameters (dimensional ratios). Furthermore, the influence of mover back iron is investigated and the loss of the motor is computed. Finite element analysis (FEA) is employed for the optimization, and the optimal values of the ratio of the axial length of the radially magnetized magnets to the pole pitch as well as the ratio of the PMs outer radius-to-stator outer radius (split ratio), are identified.

This Letter proposes a new synchronization theorem for a subclass of chaotic Lur'e systems. We take a specific state variable of the drive system as the driving signal. We prove that globally synchronization can be attained via the simple linear error feedback. The approach is illustrated using Chua's chaotic oscillator and a hyperchaotic oscillator.
