An attempt is made to calculate the population of Canada since the period of discovery. The author bas made a few corrections to official statistics and bas added the figures for Newfoundland (prior to 1949) and for the Indians and Eskimos (prior to 1851). Throughout it is a question of the same territory, that of present-day Canada. Visualized in this fashion, the history of the population of Canada falls into jour periods : 1. 1600-1710 : The total population declined because the slow increase in European immigrants did not compensate for the decrease in numbers of indigenous peoples ; 2. 1710-1775 : The total population grew slowly during this period but, after two centuries of colonisation, Canada remained a land of Indians ; 3. In less than a century the total population soared from 300,000 to 3,000,000 ; never would Canada experience an equally long period characterized by such a high rate of demographic expansion. Canada became British ; 4. The present century bas seen jour demographic periods ; rapid increase took place during two of these periods : 1896-1914 and since 1942. The alternation of rates of growth emphasizes the sensitivity of the Canadian economy to both external and internal events.

The paper presents changes in the isotopic composition of actinoids and neutron sources in spent nuclear fuel and changes in neutron multiplication factor in the period up to 1000 years. There are conclusions on peculiar behavior of fuel in such a long period. The research shows importance to make criticality calculations considering burnup credit for long-term fuel storage.

In Hungary, natural conditions are optimal for growing plums. In spite of that, plum production was not a successful business in the past years. The reasons of it are, first of all, the utter fluctuation of yields and of the producer’s prices, increment of direct costs of production, dwindling incomes and uncertainties on the market. Serious problems are caused by the high rate of aged plantations, which are not counterbalanced by new plantings. Decisive is the “loose” ranging of the branch by the Union regarding plum production, which is expected for the sake of enlarging production and markets. Our aims are to analyse the management of the eight-year-long period, 2002-2009, and the fate of components of husbandry. The results presented are means of an utterly heterogeneous population of enterprises, being hardly suitable to make actual decisions, but they may enlighten upon challenges and recognise tendencies within the branch.

AbstractRecent results are presented which indicate that the core structure of anti-phase boundaries is sensitive to changes in temperature and alloy composition. Isolated anti-phase boundaries in CoPt3 are found to undergo a structural change when the order-disorder transition temperature is approached from below. Periodic anti-phase boundaries of the long period structures in Cu3Pd, Au3Zn and Au3Cu exhibit similar phenomena. Detailed results on the core structure of periodic boundaries in alloys annealed close to the order-disorder transition are compared to the results of a Monte Carlo analysis for finite temperatures of (100) anti-phase boundaries in L12 alloys.
