ANALYSIS OF A CLEARING QUEUEING SYSTEM WITH SERVER MAINTENANCE AFTER N NEGATIVE FEEDBACKS

This paper is devoted to the study of a clearing queueing system with a special discipline. As soon as the server receives N negative feedbacks from customers, all present customers are forced to leave the system and the server undergoes a maintenance procedure. After an exponential maintenance time, the system resumes its service immediately. Using the matrix analytic method, we derive the steady-state distributions, which are then used for the computation of other performance measures. Furthermore, using first step analysis, we obtain the Laplace–Stieltjes transform of the sojourn time of an arbitrary customer. We also study the busy period of the system and derive the generating function of the total number of lost customers in a busy period. Finally, we investigate a long-run rate of cost and explore the optimal N value that minimizes the total cost per unit time. We also present some numerical examples to illustrate the impact of several model parameters to the performance measures.

Abstract This paper considers a discrete-time queueing system in which an arriving customer can decide to follow a last come first served (LCFS) service discipline or to become a negative customer that eliminates the one at service, if any. After service completion, the server can opt for a vacation time or it can remain on duty. Changes in the vacation times as well as their associated distribution are thoroughly studied. An extensive analysis of the system is carried out and, using a probability generating function approach, steady-state performance measures such as the first moments of the busy period of the queue content and of customers delay are obtained. Finally, some numerical examples to show the influence of the parameters on several performance characteristics are given.

We consider a single server Markovian feedback queue with variant of multiple vacation policy, balking, server's states-dependent reneging, and retention of reneged customers. We obtain the steady-state solution of the considered queue based on the use of probability generating functions. Then, the closed-form expressions of different system characteristics are derived. Finally, we present some numerical results in order to show the impact of the parameters of impatience timers on the performance measures of the system.

This paper analyzes customers’ impatience in Markovian queueing system with multiple working vacations and Bernoulli schedule vacation interruption, where customers’ impatience is due to the servers’ vacation. During the working vacation period, if there are customers in the queue, the vacation can be interrupted at a service completion instant and the server begins a regular busy period with probability 1-q or continues the vacation with probability q. We obtain the probability generating functions of the stationary state probabilities and deduce the explicit expressions of the system sizes when the server is in a normal service period and in a Bernoulli schedule vacation interruption, respectively. Various performance measures such as the mean system size, the proportion of customers served, the rate of abandonment due to impatience, and the mean sojourn time of a customer served are derived. We obtain the stochastic decomposition structures of the queue length and waiting time. Finally, some numerical results to show the impact of model parameters on performance measures of the system are presented.

This paper studies a single server queueing model in a multi-phase random environment with server breakdowns and geometric abandonments, where server breakdowns only occur while the server is in operation. At a server breakdown instant (i.e., an abandonment opportunity epoch), all present customers adopt the so-called geometric abandonments, that is, the customers decide sequentially whether they will leave the system or not. In the meantime, the server abandons the service and a repair process starts immediately. After the server is repaired, the server resumes its service, and the system enters into the operative phaseiwith probabilityqi,i= 1, 2, …,d. Using probability generating functions and matrix geometric approach, we obtain the steady state distribution and various performance measures. In addition, some numerical examples are presented to show the impact of parameters on the performance measures.

In this paper, we study the discrete-time MAP/PH/1 queue with multiple working vacations and finite buffer N. Using the Matrix-Geometric Combination method, we obtain the stationary probability vectors of this model, which can be expressed as a linear combination of two matrix-geometric vectors. Furthermore, we obtain some performance measures including the loss probability and give the limit of loss probability as finite buffer N goes to infinite. Waiting time distribution is derived by using the absorbing Markov chain. Moreover, we obtain the number of customers served in the busy period. At last, some numerical examples are presented to verify the results we obtained and show the impact of parameter N on performance measures.

The paper analyses the long-run (steady-state) output and price stability of a small, open economy which adopts a “crawling-peg” type of exchange-rate regime in the presence of various kinds of random shocks. Analytical and simulation results suggest that with the exception of money demand shocks, an exchange rate policy which involves a relatively higher rate of indexation of the exchange rate to price level is likely to lead to the worsening of price stability for all types of shocks. On the other hand, the impact of adopting such a policy on output stability depends on the type of the shock; for policy shocks to the exchange rate and shocks to output demand, output stability is worsened whereas for the shocks to risk premium of domestic assets, supply price of domestic output and the wage rate, better output stability is achieved in the long run.

In this paper we discuss a model to estimate the power consumption and lifetime (LT) of an OLED display based on its pixel value and the brightness setting of the screen (scbr). This model is used to illustrate the effect of OLED aging on display color characteristics. Model parameters are based on power consumption measurement of a given display for a number of pixel and scbr combinations. OLED LT is often given for the most stressful display operating situation, i.e. white image at maximum scbr, but having the ability to predict the LT for other configurations can be meaningful to estimate the impact and quality of new image processing algorithms. After explaining our model we present a use case to illustrate how we use it to evaluate the impact of an image processing algorithm for brightness adaptation.

This study analyses the impact of exchange rate and oil prices on the yield of sovereign bond and sukuk for Malaysian capital market. This study aims to ascertain the effect of weakening Malaysian Ringgit and declining of crude oil price on the fixed income investors in the emerging capital market. This study utilises daily time series data of Malaysian exchange rate, oil price and the yield of Malaysian sovereign bond and sukuk from year 2006 until 2015. The findings show that the weakening of exchange rate and oil prices contribute different impacts in the short and long run. In the short run, the exchange rate and oil prices does not have a direct relation with the yield of sovereign bond and sukuk. However, in the long run, the result reveals that there is a significant relationship between exchange rate and oil prices on the yield of sovereign bond and sukuk. It is evident that only a unidirectional causality relation is present between exchange rate and oil price towards selected yield of Malaysian sovereign bond and sukuk. This study provides numerical and empirical insights on issues relating to capital market that supports public authorities and private institutions on their decision and policymaking process.

In the present study, the impact strength, flexural modulus, and wear rate of poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) with eggshell powder (ESP) composites have been investigated. The PMMA used as a matrix material reinforced with ESP at two different states (including untreated eggshell powder (UTESP) and treated eggshell powder (TESP)). Both UTESP and TESP were mixed with PMMA at different weight fractions ranged from (1-5) wt.%. The results revealed that the mechanical properties of the PMMA/ESP composites were enhanced steadily with increasing eggshell contents. The samples with 5 wt.% of UTESP and TESP additions give the maximum values of impact strength, about twice the value of the pure PMMA sample. The calcination process of eggshells powders gives better properties of the PMMA samples compared with the UTESP at the same weight fraction due to improvements in the interface bond between the matrix and particles. The wear characteristics of the PMMA composites decrease by about 57% with increases the weight fraction of TESP up to 5 wt.%. The flexural modulus values are slightly enhanced by increasing of the ESP contents in the PMMA composites.
