Purpose The investigation of fluid flow and heat transfer is incredibly significant in the present era, particularly in the engineering and manufacturing industries. Hence, this study aims to concern with analysing the unsteady stagnation point flow towards a permeable stretching/shrinking Riga plate of Al2O3-Cu/H2O. The effect of thermal radiation on the boundary layer flow is also taken into account. Design/methodology/approach The multi-variable differential equations with partial derivatives are transformed into third-order and second-order differential equations by applying appropriate transformations. The reduced mathematical model is solved in the MATLAB system by using the bvp4c procedure. This solution approach is capable of producing multiple solutions once the necessary assumptions are provided. Findings The results of various control parameters were analysed, and it has been observed that raising the solution viscosity from 0% to 0.5% and 1% improves the coefficient of skin friction and thermal conductivity by almost 1.0% and 1.9%. Similar response and observation can be witnessed in the addition of modified Hartmann number where the highest values dominate about 10.7% improvement. There is a substantial enhancement in the heat transfer rate, approximately 1.8% when the unsteadiness parameter leads around 30% in the boundary layer flow. In contrast, the increment in thermal radiation promotes heat transfer deterioration. Further, more than one solution is proven, which invariably leads to a stability analysis, which validates the first solution’s feasibility. Originality/value The present results are new and original for the study of flow and heat transfer on unsteady stagnation point flow past a permeable stretching/shrinking Riga plate in Al2O3-Cu/H2O hybrid nanofluid with thermal radiation.

The intent of this research was to present numerical solutions to homogeneous–heterogeneous reactions of the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation point flow of a Cu-Al2O3/water hybrid nanofluid induced by a stretching or shrinking sheet with a convective boundary condition. A proper similarity variable was applied to the system of partial differential equations (PDEs) and converted into a system of ordinary (similarity) differential equations (ODEs). These equations were solved using Matlab’s in-built function (bvp4c) for various values of the governing parameters numerically. The present investigation considered the effects of homogeneous–heterogeneous reactions and magnetic field in the hybrid nanofluid flow. It was observed that dual solutions were visible for the shrinking sheet, and an analysis of stability was done to determine the physically realizable in the practice of these solutions. It was also concluded that hybrid nanofluid acts as a cooler for some increasing parameters. The magnetohydrodynamic parameter delayed the boundary layer separation; meanwhile, the nanoparticle volume fraction quickened the separation of the boundary layer that occurred. In addition, the first solution of hybrid nanofluid was found to be stable; meanwhile, the second solution was not stable. This study is therefore valuable for engineers and scientists to get acquainted with the properties of hybrid nanofluid flow, its behavior and the way to predict it.

AbstractFractional calculus characterizes a function at those points, where classical calculus failed. In the current study, we explored the fractional behavior of the stagnation point flow of hybrid nano liquid consisting of TiO2 and Ag nanoparticles across a stretching sheet. Silver Ag and Titanium dioxide TiO2 nanocomposites are one of the most significant and fascinating nanocomposites perform an important role in nanobiotechnology, especially in nanomedicine and for cancer cell therapy since these metal nanoparticles are thought to improve photocatalytic operation. The fluid movement over a stretching layer is subjected to electric and magnetic fields. The problem has been formulated in the form of the system of PDEs, which are reduced to the system of fractional-order ODEs by implementing the fractional similarity framework. The obtained fractional order differential equations are further solved via fractional code FDE-12 based on Caputo derivative. It has been perceived that the drifting velocity generated by the electric field E significantly improves the velocity and heat transition rate of blood. The fractional model is more generalized and applicable than the classical one.

Purpose. The flow of nonviscous Casson fluid is examined in this study over an oscillating surface. The model of the fluid flow has been inspected in the presence of oblique stagnation point flow. The scrutiny is subsumed for the Riga plate by considering the effects of magnetohydrodynamics. The Riga plate is considered as an electromagnetic lever which carries eternal magnets and a stretching line up of alternating electrodes coupled on a plane surface. We have considered nonboundary layer two-dimensional incompressible flow of the fluid. The fluid flow model is analyzed in the fixed frame of reference. Motivation. The motivation of achieving more suitable results has always been a quest of life for scientists; the capability of determining the boundary layer of flow on aircraft which either stays laminar or turns turbulent has encouraged the researcher to study compressible flow in depth. The compressible fluid with boundary layer flow has been utilized by numerous researchers to reduce skin friction and enhance thermal and convectional heat exchange. Design/Approach/Methodology. The attained partial differential equations will be critically inspected by using suitable similarity transformation to transform these flows thrived equations into higher nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODE). Then, these equations of motion are intercepted by mathematical techniques such as the bvp4c method in Maple and Matlab. The graphical and tabular representation of different parameters is also given. Findings. The behavior of β and modified Hartmann number M increases by positively increasing the values of both parameters for F η , while ω decreases with increasing the values of ω for F η . The graph of β shows upward behavior for distinct values for both G η and G ′ η for velocity portray. Prandtl number and β for the temperature profile of θ η and θ 1 η goes downward with increasing parameters.

Purpose This paper aims to scrutinize the analysis of non-axisymmetric Homann stagnation point flow and heat transfer of hybrid Cu-Al2O3/water nanofluid over a stretching/shrinking flat plate. Design/methodology/approach The similarity transformation which fulfils the continuity equation is opted to transform the coupled momentum and energy equations into the nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions which are elucidated in the tables and graphs are obtained using the bvp4c solver. Findings Non-unique solutions (first and second) are feasible for both stretching and shrinking cases within the specific values of the parameters. First solution is the physical/real solution based on the execution of stability analysis. An upsurge of the ratio of the ambient fluid strain rate to the plate strain rate can delay the boundary layer separation, whereas a boost of the ratio of the ambient fluid shear rate to the plate strain rate only accelerates the separation of boundary layer. The heat transfer rate of hybrid nanofluid is greater for the stretching case than the shrinking case. However, for the shrinking case, the heat transfer rate intensifies with the increment of the copper (Cu) nanoparticles volume fraction, whereas a contrary result is found for the stretching case. Originality/value The present numerical results are original and new. It can contribute to other researchers on electing the relevant parameters to optimize the heat transfer process in the modern industry, and the right parameters to generate non-unique solution so that no misjudgment on flow and heat transfer features.
