A field experiment was conducted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur during the period from 2012-13 to verify the effectiveness of urea super granule (USG) and prilled urea (PU)on growth, yield and yield attributes of broccoli in Shallow Red-Brown Terrace Soil under Madhupur Tract (AEZ-28). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications having 5 treatments constituted with different levels of USG and PU as- T1: Control, T2: USG-N140 (140 kg N as USG), T3: USG-N160 (160 kg N as USG), T4: USG-N180 (180 kg N as USG), T5: PU-N180 (180 kg N as PU). Performance of USG was better than PU and the treatment USG-N160 gave the highest yield (13.49 ton ha-1) which was followed by USG-N180 (12.43 ton ha-1) and PU-N180(12.05 ton ha-1) having significant difference among these. Higher but statistically identical number of lateral head 5.103 and 5.38 was produced by USG-N160 and USG-N180 treatments, respectively in comparison with PU-N180 (5.04). But higher lateral head yields (6.05 and 5.03 ton ha-1) were found in USG-N180 treatments followed by PU-N180. All the yield contributing characters and the economic profitability were favorably correlated with these high yield performing treatments with the highest MRR (3336.67%) obtained from USG-N160 which indicated that USG @ 160 kg N ha-1 (USG-N160) is the most economically viable N dose in terms of yield and economics for broccoli production. Therefore, USG @ 160 kg N ha-1 (USG-N160) with other recommended fertilizer could be suggested as USG based fertilizer recommendation for better broccoli production in terms of yield and economics in Silty Clay Loam Soil of Madhupur Tract.Bangladesh J. [THE EFFECT OF PLANTING DISTANCE AND WEDDING FREQUENCY ON GROWTH, YIELD OF PEANUT (Arachis hypogaea L) AND WEED POPULATION]. This study was aimed to determine planting distance and frequency of weeding which gives the highest growth and yield of peanuts. Peanut plants were planted in the Experimental Field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University from October to December 2018. The study was arranged in a Complete Randomized Block Design (RCBD) with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor is the planting distance of 40 cm x 20 cm; 40 cm x 30 cm and 40 cm x 40 cm. The second factor is the frequency of weeding consisting of no weeding, 1x weeding (age 2 WAP), 2x weeding (2 and 4 WAP), and 3x weeding (2, 4, and 6 WAP). The results showed that the interaction between the spacing of 40 cm x 40 cm and 2 x weeding can increase plant height. The spacing of 40 cm x 40 cm can reduce the population and dry weight of broadleaf weeds. The planting distance of 40 cm x 30 cm can increase the fresh weight of pods, pod weight/plot, and the highest dry weight of pods/plants. The frequency of weeding 2x can reduce the population and dry weight of broadleaf weeds; whereas weeding frequency 3x can reduce weed populations of grass and sedges- weeds, and dry weight of broadleaf weeds. The 3x weeding frequency can also increase the total number of pods/plants, pod weight/plot, and pod weight/plant.

An experiment was conducted at the research field of the Department of Agricultural Botany, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Patuakhali under the Agro-ecological zone-13 (AEZ-13) during the period from November 2012 to February 2013. The aim of the study was to identify the most effective irrigation level for obtaining the better growth and higher yield performance of BARI Gom-25 that are suitable to cultivate under  coastal region of Patuakhali, Bangladesh. So, the present study was consists of five irrigations levels including control viz. control or no irrigation (T0), one irrigation at 25 DAS (T1), two irrigations at 25 and 40 DAS (T2), three irrigations at 25, 40 and 55 DAS (T3)  and four irrigations at 25, 40, 55 and 70 DAS (T4). The seeds of BARI Gom-25 were collected from the BARI, Joydebpur, Gazipur on 22 November, 2012. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized block design (RCBD) with four replications and analysis was done by the MSTAT-C package program where means were separated by DMRT at 5% level of probability. Data were recorded on various growth and yield attributing traits. The plot size was 5 m2 (2.5 × 2.0 m) where row to row and seed to seed distances were 20 and 10 cm respectively. Data were collected on various morpho-physiological growth, yield and yield attributing traits. Results obtained from the present study, whole characters of the study were significant at 5% by the moisture (irrigation) levels where three irrigations given at 25, 40 and 55 DAS had most effective than that of other moisture levels and no irrigation. From the results investigation, it was found that the tallest plant (76.86 cm), maximum requiring days to anthesis (61.00 days), maturity (109.0 days) and maximum number of effective tillers (5.00 hill-1),the highest grain growth (3.11g at 36 DAA) and grains (44.00 spike-1) were obtained with three irrigation (T3) levels. Similarly, T3 further showed the greater performance on spike length (17.28 cm), 1000-seed weight (50.16 g), grain (4.16 t ha-1), straw (5.89 t ha-1) and biological yield (10.05 t ha-1) as well as the higher harvest index (41.39%). Investigated above whole characters were produced lower performances under no moisture (irrigation) treatments. These results indicated that irrigation at three times (T3) would be most advantageous irrigation levels for wheat production under the studied non saline ecosystem of coastal region.Progressive Agriculture 29 (2): 99-106, 2018
