One of the most important challenges faced by the healthcare system is the organization of healthcare services to cope with the increase in population and aging of citizens. Especially in developing countries, demographic movements of the population, regional disparities, political concerns, and increasing expectations of health services have led to a search for new ways to serve all of the population with healthcare services. With traditional methods, it is not possible to increase the supply of health services because of inadequate infrastructure and shortcomings in quantity and quality of healthcare staff. This new health system called e-health and uses all of the possibilities provided by information and communication technologies that aim to improve public health. In this chapter, the effects of e-health practices on the quality and accessibility of healthcare services are assessed and the extent of e-health practices in Turkey are evaluated.

UNSTRUCTURED Several studies have reported the positive impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) on academic performance and outcomes. Despite some equipment, ICTs in education have many shortcomings at the National Public Health School (NPHS). These shortcomings were specially revealed during the search for responses to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, to curb the spread of coronavirus disease, some measures were taken, such as the closure of educational institutions. This resulted in a two-and-a-half-month suspension of educational activities. The NPHS, despite its willingness, was unable to use ICTs to continue teaching during the closure period of educational institutions. Based on an analysis of the weaknesses and challenges, this article aims to provide practical solutions to promote ICT use in teaching at the NPHS. It is a critical analysis based on the literature review of the responses to the Covid-19 crisis in the field of education and the use of ICT, the authors experience and comments of the use of ICT in teaching at NPHS. Raby's (2004) ICT integration model and Gueye's (2017) ICT integration factors guided the analysis. The weaknesses and challenges identified relate to the infrastructure and equipment for the use of ICT in pedagogical situations in a face to face and distance learning, the training of actors, the availability of qualified resource persons and adequate and specific financial resources, teachers motivation and the stage of use of ICT. Promoting the use of ICT in teaching at the NPHS, actions must be carried out to strengthen the infrastructure and equipment, human resources, the actors' skills and the teachers' motivation in the pedagogical use of ICT.

Community informatics links economic and social development efforts at the community level with emerging opportunities in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). In recent years in public health there has been an increased focus on the broader social determinants of health and on social inclusion, as evidenced in the 2008 Final Report of the Commission on Social Determinants of Health1. Broader determinants include education, income, social connection, and other opportunities that support improved health and wellbeing.

Public health stands for the study and practice of those activities and initiatives that result in the prevention and reduction of incidences of illnesses and diseases in the population. The application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can considerably facilitate Public Health project initiatives. In spite of the huge benefits of using ICT in Public Health, it can also pose considerable challenges in certain populations, pertaining to the access and comprehension of information shared through modern technology stemming from a range of issues such as illiteracy, demographic and linguistic diversity, differing economic strata of people, and differing priorities. In this chapter, after presenting a discussion on the issues faced by the public and relevant systems thinking approaches that may enable addressing the same, we propose a visionary architectural framework for ICT in Public Health through the eye of systems-thinking. We have called this framework e-System for Public Health (ePH). The understanding draws heavily from the Indian context as the country presents an interesting array of the challenges that we have mentioned above.

This symposium addresses the rise of Internet data—and, more broadly, the data that is generated by a range of information and communication technologies (ICTs). Global ICT growth could have wide-ranging implications for the study of politics, but political science is currently lagging behind other disciplines in its use of ICT-derived data—particularly compared to fields such as public health and economics (Nadav et al. 2011; Carneiro and Mylonakis 2009; Choi and Varian 2009; Christakis and Fowler 2009; Ginsberg et al. 2009; Jensen 2011). The articles in this symposium, therefore, focus on the question of how political scientists can and should think about using ICT-derived data in their research.

This work constitutes a narrative review of the state of knowledge and advances in the intervention and treatment of addictions through the use of information and communication technologies, considering the growing demand for virtuality-mediated strategies that facilitate the approach of problems of public health such as addictions, which increase considerably year after year. To this end, the reader will be provided with a current overview of the drug use trend; subsequently, a conceptualization of the concept of addiction and its understanding from a neurobiological perspective and, finally, the progress in terms of intervention processes and therapeutic approach will be presented; which will imply an approach to the concept of e-health and rehabilitation mediated by information and communication technologies (ICT).
