Abstract A discounted cash flow model called the Impact Appraisal Model (IAM) computes the economic impact due to a change in timber production caused by a wildfire. Data requirements for the IAM can be obtained using standard inventory procedures to estimate the pre- and post-fire stand conditionsneeded to initiate a growth and yield simulator. The model is demonstrated using five loblolly plantations that burned in 1980 and 1981. South. J. Appl. For. 11(3):143-147.

Goal: This study aims to assess the impact of using the method of real options in investment analysis through a case study on a retail firm. Design / Methodology / Approach: It was targeted the applications of the real options method in a different type of environment and it was compared to another method more commonly used, the discounted cash flow method (DCF). The implementation and assessment of the real options method was investigated by means of a case study conducted in an investment analysis in a retail units firm. Results: The use of the real options method showed a more concise applicability over the DCF method. The results show that the project’s value, after the inclusion of managerial flexibility, increased significantly, which indicates that the analysis of the discounted cash flow undervalued the investment in question, since it disregarded the flexibility to expand or abandon the project. Limitations of the investigation: The presented method is proper to long-term processes where it is possible to make changes during the project. Investments in this sector usually are more related to short and medium-term decisions, making the application difficult due to the short decision-making period available to the managers. Practical Implications: The study provided the incorporation of flexibility through different pathways during the building project in a retail units firm. It was showed different scenarios where practitioners could decide among expanding, proceeding, reducing or abandoning the retail units based on the characteristics of their investments. Originality/value: The results obtained are an indication of this methodology to industrial businesses that are relatively volatile and that need a certain degree of flexibility in order to burgeon, such as the case of the retailing sector.

AbstractThe discounted cash flow model (DCFM) views the intrinsic value of common stock as the present value of its expected future cash flows. This paper analyses whether the equity terminal value (EqTV) of the firm calculated by fundamentals is appreciated by the market. It also studies the impact of variations in EqTV and the extent to which the market perceives these variations. Using a sample of 62 Spanish listed companies, this paper shows that EqTV and its variations are positively and significantly correlated with EqTV assigned by the market and its corresponding variations. It therefore corroborates the validity and relevance of the valuation model.

Abstract Measurements from 26 permanent test plots established in slash pine (Pinus elliotti var. elliotti Engelm.) plantations of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia in 1976 have been used to assess the impact of pitch canker on growth and yield of trees over time. The plots were remeasured annually for five years. The mean annual volume increment for infected trees was between 60 and 81 percent of that of the healthy trees. Trees that were repeatedly infected grew proportionately less, over the five-year period, than those that were infected only once or twice. The five-year periodic volume increment for the most severely infected trees was between one-third and two-thirds of that of healthy trees in the same diameter class. Incidence of infection was not correlated with tree diameter. The overall cubic foot volume loss due to growth suppression and mortality amounted to 4.5 percent of the expected total volume in 1981. This loss represents 15 percent of the anticipated five-year volume growth.

Aircraft valuation and the estimation of an accurate aircraft price is undoubtedly a challenging task that has significant consequences for airlines. This paper presents an asset valuation model to show how a series of endogenous as well as exogenous factors can influence the value of an aircraft. Specifically, a discounted cash flow methodology is used to forecast the valuation of an old or new generation aircraft. Both total operating revenue and aircraft operating costs are taken into account to devise a reliable pre-tax profit measurement that is used as the basis of the discounted cash flow analysis. A sensitivity analysis based on Monte Carlo simulation is utilized to identify which factors have a more significant influence on the suggested aircraft value. Therefore, it addresses how value fluctuates in response to economic fluctuations. Indeed, the calculated value of an aircraft highly depends on the underlying assumptions used. The calculated value is compared with available data in a case study for verification.

This research is aimed at improving the efficiency of evaluating mergers and acquisitions for companies in the agro-industrial complex. When evaluating these transactions, it is necessary to take into account their impact on the environment. The paper analyzes the problems associated with the evaluation of these transactions and identifies ways to improve the evaluation methods. The authors ' approach to evaluating acquisitions based on the assessment of changes in the company's potential is intended to improve the accuracy of the assessment and reduce the risks of revaluation of discounted cash flow from acquisitions. Assessment of potential changes as a result of the implementation of integration projects will allow assessing the economic impact of takeover options, taking into account the environmental consequences for the territory. The proposed approach is aimed at more accurate accounting for changes in intellectual capital of the combined company as a result of integration. Rationalization of the evaluation of the effectiveness of acquisitions will allow owners and management of agro-industrial companies to reduce the risks of making ineffective decisions.

Abstract We present an efficient and effective approach to train OCR engines using the Aletheia document analysis system. All components required for training are seamlessly integrated into Aletheia: training data preparation, the OCR engine’s training processes themselves, text recognition, and quantitative evaluation of the trained engine. Such a comprehensive training and evaluation system, guided through a GUI, allows for iterative incremental training to achieve best results. The widely used Tesseract OCR engine is used as a case study to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed approach. Experimental results are presented validating the training approach with two different historical datasets, representative of recent significant digitisation projects. The impact of different training strategies and training data requirements is presented in detail.

Theoretical and practical features of the widely used discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation approach are examined in depth in this paper. This research evaluates Exide Industries by using the DCF Valuation technique. It is widely accepted that the discounted cash flow approach is an effective tool for analyzing the situation of an organization even in the most complicated circumstances. The DCF approach, on the other hand, is prone to huge assumption bias, and even little modifications in an analysis' underlying assumptions may substantially affect the valuation findings. As a result, of the sensitivity analysis, we discovered bullish, base, and worst-case scenarios with target share prices of Rs. 253.25, Rs. 171.37, and Rs.133.25, respectively, by adjusting growth and WACC (Weighted-Average Cost of Capital) values.
