Patient satisfaction has become an integral part of the process of measuring the quality of the provided care. Patients’ satisfaction about healthcare services increases in institutions that provide healthy workplace environment for nurses.This quantitative study aims to measure the impact of nurse practice environment on patients’ satisfaction with the provided nursing care services. A cross-sectional design was conducted to survey 75 male and female nurses and 107 inpatients who were hospitalized at least one day and aged 17 years and older. Sample was selected from medical and surgical wards of two main teaching hospitals in AL-Najaf province, Iraq.The results show that 80% of the nurses work in poor practice environment. About 52% of the patients were partially satisfied with nursing care; whereas, about 47% of the patients were unsatisfied. A significant correlation was found between nurse practice environment and patients’ satisfaction p < .05; regression analysis shows that patients’ satisfaction can be predicted based on nurse-patient ratio. Conclusion: Enhancing the practice environment of nurses helps improving the quality of healthcare and achieving better level of patients’ satisfaction with nursing care services.  Keywords: Nurses workplace; patient satisfaction; practice environment; nursing care;

Intense staff shortages and heavy workloads are common characteristics of Tehran educational hospitals. This may contribute to changes in patients’ perceptions of nurse caring and satisfaction with healthcare services. The time that nurses previously allotted to direct care has been reduced, possibly restricting the effects of nursing care. For this study, data were collected using the Persian versions of the revised Caring Behaviors Inventory and the Patient Satisfaction Instrument. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows. Findings support earlier western evidence that nurse caring is associated with patient satisfaction with nursing care. It is important to reflect on the impact of culture, religion, and current healthcare environment of Iran on nurse caring and patient satisfaction.

We examine psychological mediating mechanisms to promote ocean health among the U.S. public. Ocean acidification (OA) was chosen as the focus, as experts consider it as important as climate change with the same cause of humanity’s excessive carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, but it is lesser known. Empathy is a multi-dimensional concept that includes cognitive and emotional aspects. Previous literature argues that environmental empathy can facilitate positive behaviors. We tested the hypothesis that empathy affects beliefs and behavioral intentions regarding ocean health using the Health Belief Model. We found that higher empathy toward ocean health led to higher perceived susceptibility and severity from OA, greater perceived benefits of CO2 emissions reduction, greater perceived barriers, and keener attention to the media. Beliefs and media attention positively influenced behavioral intentions (e.g., willingness to buy a fuel efficient car). Theoretical and practical implications regarding audience targeting and intervention design are discussed.
