The comprehensive evaluation of water quality is an important foundation work for environmental planning and management.Because of the characteristics of fuzziness and impreciseness of river water system, the water quality assessment model based on the set pair analysis theory (WQA-SPA) for evaluating water quality of the river mainstream is proposed. The WQA-SPA model couples fuzzy logic theory and set pair analysis theory, combining identity、discrepancy and contrary (IDC). According to this model, the water level recognition results and the membership of various levels can be calculated by using the river water quality data. Research shows that the evaluation result is accurate, credible. It has a certain value in the comprehensive evaluation of various types of known systems.

A comprehensive evaluation of four different textile wastewaters was carried out to set the experimental basis for the modelling of activated sludge process. Experiments involved beside conventional characterization, detailed COD fractionation and assessment of major kinetic and stoichiometric coefficients by means of respirometric measurements. A multi-component model based on the endogenous decay concept was used for the kinetic interpretation and design of activated sludge. The fate and variation of major process components affecting effluent quality with the sludge age were evaluated by means of model simulations.

It is necessary to take into account synthetically attribute of every index because of independence and incompatibility resulted from single index evaluating outcomes. Through the information entropy theory and attribute recognition model being combined together, attribute recognition model based on entropy weight is constructed and applied to evaluating groundwater quality by a new method, weight coefficient by the law of entropy value is exercised so that it is more objective. The outcome from concrete application indicates that it is suitable to evaluate water quality with reasonable conclusion and simple calculation.
