An article presents a review of current standards and guidelines in the field welding fabrication requirements for wind energy structures in arctic conditions. Extreme climatic conditions, such as Arctic, have a strong influence on the requirements for wind turbines structural characteristics, materials and fabrication methods. Special attention has to be paid for selecting steels with suitable mechanical properties, processing methods and delivery conditions. Additionally, it is highly important to select proper welding process and welding parameters, so that the structural integrity and reliable operation can be achieved.

This qualitative study identifies design principles and delivery methods best suited for the retail industry with a focus on training front-line workers. This research identifies key design elements to aid retail organizations in choosing an effective online learning solution for their workforce. To provide clear and relevant design recommendations specific to the retail workforce, the scope of the research focused on learner characteristics, e-learning in the workplace, adult learning theory, as well as current design and delivery features available on the market. Through a meta-synthesis of qualitative research, findings indicate a need for soft skill development related to customer interactions. A list of design principles targeting soft skill development of the front-line retail worker is recommended based on both industry and academic research.

The multimedia communication over the Internet needs the multicasting delivery scheme. In this chapter the sophisticated group management and routing protocols required for multicasting are presented. The different kinds of transport protocols for satisfying the special requirements of the multimedia applications are also included. In recent years, wind power in Brazil has emerged as an alternative to diversify the country′s energy mix and minimize the emission of pollutants derived from fossil fuels. The state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the Brazilian Northeast, has considerable potential for the generation of wind energy due to the occurrence of strong winds in many areas along the coast and in the interior of the state, in places with higher altitudes. However, wind energy, despite being considered clean and renewable, can cause environmental impacts in those places. Thus, the present study analyzed the perception of environmental impacts caused by the installation of wind farms in the agricultural areas of Northeast Brazil. The study was carried out in the municipality of Serra do Mel, in the western region of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, based on a survey of local farmers. The study concluded that farmers live without major problems and without apparent conflicts with wind farms but have little knowledge about the environmental impacts. In the perception of most farmers, there are few negative environmental impacts, and those that exist are barely noticed or still do not cause damage to most farmers in the region.
