In this paper we derive formulas for computing the closed-loop time response of an uncertain flexible mechanical system with a truncated model. It is assumed that the dynamics of the flexible mechanical system is described by an infinite series of lightly damped vibration modes. The modal parameters, damping ratio, and natural frequency, are assumed to lie within known ranges. Given a truncated model and a robust control solution, our formulaes define upper and lower bounds for the time response of single-input/output systems about the closed-loop response of the truncated model.

In this paper are presented some aspects of transmissibility control of mechanical systems with 1 DOF so that the effects of vibration on their action to be minimized. Some technical solutions that can be used for this purpose is analyzed. Starting from the mathematical model of an electro-mechanical system with 1 DOF, are identified the parameters which influence the effectiveness of the transmissibility control system using an electrodynamic actuator who work in "closed loop".

AbstractDescribed is a closed-loop control scheme capable of stabilizing a parametrically excited nonlinear structure in several vibration modes. By setting the relative phase between the spatially filtered response and the excitation, the open-loop unstable solution branches are stabilized under a 2:1 parametric excitation of a chosen mode of vibration. For a given phase, the closed-loop automatically locks on a limit cycle, through an Autoresonance scheme, at any desired point on the solution branches. Axially driven slender beams and nanowires develop large transverse vibration under suitable amplitudes and frequency base-excitation that are sensitive to small potential coupled field. To utilize such a structure as a sensor, stable and robust operation are made possible by the control scheme. In addition, an optimal operating point with large sensitivity to the sensed potential field can be set using phase as a tunable parameter. Detailed analysis of the dynamical behavior, experimental verifications, and demonstrations sheds light on some features of the system dynamics.

Abstract The dynamic behavior of bladed disks in resonance crossing has been intensively investigated in the community of turbomachinery, addressing the attention to (1) the transienttype response that appear when the resonance is crossed with a finite sweep rate and (2) the localization of the vibration in the disk due to the blade mistuning. In real conditions, the two mentioned effects coexist and can interact in a complex manner. This paper investigates the problem by means of analytic solutions obtained through asymptotic expansions, as well as numerical simulations. The mechanical system is assumed as simple as possible: a 2-dof linear system defined through the three parameters: damping ratio ξ, frequency mistuning Δ, rotor acceleration Ω˙. The analytic solutions are calculated through the multiple-scale method.

The design of a low order controller for decoupled MIMO systems is proposed. The main objective of this controller is to guarantee some closed loop time response performances such as the settling time and the overshoot. The controller parameters are obtained by resolving a non-convex optimization problem. In order to obtain an optimal solution, the use of a global optimization method is suggested. In this chapter, the proposed solution is the GGP method. The principle of this method consists of transforming a non-convex optimization problem to a convex one by some mathematical transformations. So as to accomplish the fixed goal, it is imperative to decouple the coupled MIMO systems. To approve the controllers' design method, the synthesis of fixed low order controller for decoupled TITO systems is presented firstly. Then, this design method is generalized in the case of MIMO systems. Simulation results and a comparison study between the presented approach and a PI controller are given in order to show the efficiency of the proposed controller. It is remarkable that the obtained solution meets the desired closed loop time specifications for each system output. It is also noted that by considering the proposed approach the user can fix the desired closed loop performances for each output independently.

This paper proposes the design of fixed low order controllers for Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) decoupled systems. The simplified decoupling is used as a decoupling system technique due to its advantages compared to other decoupling methods. The main objective of the proposed controllers is to satisfy some desired closed loop step response performances such as the settling time and the overshoot. The controller design is formulated as an optimization problem which is non convex and it takes in account the desired closed loop performances. Therefore, classical methods used to solve the non convex optimization problem can generate a local solution and the resulting control law is not optimal. Thus, the thought is to use a global optimization method in order to obtain an optimal solution which will guarantee the desired time response specifications. In this work the Generalized Geometric Programming (GGP) is exploited as a global optimization method. The key idea of this method consists in transforming an optimization problem, initially, non convex to a convex one by some mathematical transformations. Simulation results and a comparison study between the presented approach and a Proportional Integral (PI) controller are given in order to shed light the efficiency of the proposed controllers.
