Based on the analysis of multi-layer winding arrangement characteristic of the wire rope in Lebus drum, the experimental study is carried on wear distribution of the wire rope in parallel grooved multi-layer winding. The result shows that, the wire rope is arranged regularly in each drum area in parallel grooved multi-layer winding; the wear of wire ropes in crossover zone is more serious than that of the parallel zone; in the same-layer wire rope winding in crossover zone, the wear damage during the wire rope winding in crossover zone at the end of each-layer drum is the most serious.

Comparison test method is used to study the effect of pulley diameter and lubricant grease on multi-layer winding wire rope’s fatigue endurance. The investigation indicates that the fatigue failure behavior is closely related to spatial location where the wire rope is in drum; the occurrence and development of broken wires follows regularly. The fatigue endurance of multi-layer winding wire rope is little influenced by lubricant grease, which is greatly affected by the diameter ratio of pulley to rope in multi-layer winding. The results have important reference value for the reliability design of multi-layer winding wire rope.

The mechanical characteristics of the end plates of Lebus drum were investigated by an experimental approach. Strain-electricity method was used to test the stress of the end plates of the drum. Experimental results show that the equivalent stress exerted on the end plate is 3 time higher than the stress obtained by the conventional calculation method. The stress exerted on the end plate of one side of Lebus drum grows one time as the wire rope adds two layers according to the winding process and the increment of the stress becomes larger and larger with the wire rope layer number increasing. When the wire rope rise from the 10th layer to 11th layer, the increment of the stress in radial direction on the end plate of the entry side reaches up to 54.9 [Mpa].
