This paper describes two new species from the genus Dorymenia (Mollusca: Solenogastres: Proneomeniidae): D. hesperidesi sp. nov. and D. menchuescribanae sp. nov., collected during the Spanish oceanographic expeditions for the study of Antarctic benthos, BENTART'94 and BENTART'95, carried out in the area of the Livingston Island (South Shetland Islands, Antarctica). A comparative study of main specific characteristics of species belonging to the genus Dorymenia found off the South Shetland Islands and in the Bransfield Strait (Antarctica), is also included.

Massalongia olechiana (Massalongiaceae, Peltigerales), a new lichen species from the Antarctic A new species of lichenized ascomycete, Massalongia olechiana Alstrup et Søchting, sp. nov. (Massalongiaceae) is described from the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. The species is distinguished by laminal isidia and 5-7-septate ascospores. The relationships with the other species of the genus are discussed. From Massalongia carnosa, recorded from both the Arctic and the Antarctic, the new species is distinguished by its lack of isidioid squamules and in having pluriseptate ascospores instead of 1-septate ascospores.

Specimens of 22 species of pycnogonids belonging to twelve genera and seven families were collected during a cruise near Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands. Twenty two of the 94 stations yielded pycnogonids: the new species Ammothea hesperidensis is described fully, illustrated, and compared with similar species. The family Nymphonidae provided both the greatest diversity of species (seven) and number of specimens (35). The most abundant species were Achelia hoekii and Nymphon australe.

Two new species of Paramunnidae (Crustacea, Isopoda, Asellota) from the South Shetland Islands (sub-Antarctic) are described. Austrosignum escandellae sp. nov. has long eyestalks, dorsum slightly sculpted (transverse bumps on pereonites 1–5), and lateral margins of pereonites rounded. The closest species is A. spinosum Kussakin, 1982 that also shows dorsum sculpted. The main differences are the ocular peduncle (short in A. spinosum) and the lateral margins of pereonites (pointed in A. spinosum). Coulmannia ramosae sp. nov. differs from the other two species of this genus (C. australis Hodgson, 1910 and C. frigida Hodgson, 1910) in that only the margins of pereonites 2–4 are expanded (into one point). A discussion of the Austrosignum/Munnogonium complex is provided with a comparative table of the species involved.

The present paper describes 10 new diatom (Bacillariophyta) species from the Maritime Antarctic Region. Five of the newly described taxa: Caloneis australis sp. nov., Mayamaea sweetloveana sp. nov., Navicula romanedwardii sp. nov., Sellaphora antarctica sp. nov. and Sellaphora gracillima sp. nov. have been previously reported from the Antarctic Region but were force-fitted into incorrect names. Five other taxa: Chamaepinnularia elliptica sp. nov., Cosmioneis regigeorgiensis sp. nov., Mayamaea tytgatiana sp. nov., Muelleria pimpireviana sp. nov. and Pinnularia pinseeliana sp. nov. are newly discovered taxa. The morphology of all new species is studied using both light and scanning electon microscope observations and compared with similar species from the Antarctic Region and worldwide. Data about the ecology and confirmed Antarctic distribution of the new species are added.
