Photocatalytic technology is a widely used water treatment method, whose efficiency can be increased by developing a suitable photocatalyst fabrication procedure. In this study, five different synthesis methods were utilised for the preparation of novel ZnO/sepiolite photolytic composites, namely, sol-gel method, hydrothermal reduction, hydrolytic precipitation, powder sintering, and impregnation-reduction. The obtained photocatalysts were characterised by scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The differences between the applied photocatalyst preparation methods and the reasons for these differences were discussed, and the photocatalytic activities of the prepared composite materials were compared. The obtained results revealed that the physical structure, chemical properties, and photocatalytic performance of the composite produced by the sol-gel method were superior to those of the materials fabricated by the other four methods. Moreover, this material also exhibited high photocatalytic stability, while its photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye proceeded via a quasi-first-order reaction. The prepared composites have broad application prospects in photocatalysis and can be potentially used for treating environmental pollutants.

Abstract In this work, the PbFe12O19 nanoparticles were prepared by the simple and optimized precipitation method with different organic surfactants and capping agents. In the next step, the TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized using the sol-gel method. At the final step, the PbFe12O19-TiO2 nanocomposites were prepared via the sol-gel method. The effect of the precipitating agent on the morphology and particle size of the products was investigated. The prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results obtained by the vibrating sample magnetometer show the magnetic properties of the ferrite nanostructures. The photocatalytic effect of the PbFe12O19-TiO2 nanocomposite on the elimination of the azo dyes (acid black, acid violet and acid blue) under ultraviolet light irradiation was evaluated. The results indicate that the prepared nanocomposites have acceptable magnetic and photocatalytic performance.

Spherical YAG:Ce3+phosphors were synthesized by three different routes namely sol-gel method, co-precipitation method and solvethermal method. The microstructure, crystallization and luminescent properties of the phosphors were studied in order to find the best processing parameter for spherical shape and good luminescence properties of YAG:Ce3+phosphor. Adding citric acid to the precursor solution resulted in the formation of spherical particles in sol-gel method. YAG:Ce3+phosphor made by co-precipitation method was separated with PEG2000, and its spherical particles of size was around 500nm. The hydro-thermal method could get perfect spherical appearance, but it needed heat treatment improve the luminescence property.

A series of sulfated zirconia was prepared through sol gel method in alcohol medium. Porosity of the catalyst was developed in two different methods, which were immersion of cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC) surfactant as templating agent and Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE). The physico-chemical properties of the catalysts were characterized by Thermal Gravimetric-Differential Thermal Analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Barret-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) and gravimetry method for acidity measurement following by the adsorption of organic bases. The characterization results show that different method of immersing CTAC surfactant and SFE affecting physical and chemical properties, i.e. crystalinity, surface area, pore size, pore volume and acidity.

The nanocomposite films with different ZnO:Fe2O3 ratio was prepared by Sol-Gel method on slides glass, Its structure performance was characterized by XRD, SEM, and the photocatalytic performance of different ZnO: Fe2O3 ratio films was investigated. The results showed that: the three layers film that with Zn: Fe ratio was 1:2, had the best photocatalytic effect.
