Key Characters

Keys to 11 genera and 21 species of Calliphoridae found or likely to be found in the West Indies are given. Species distributions and key characters are discussed. Lucilia fayeae sp. nov. is described from numerous specimens from Dominica, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent. Calliphora maestrica Peris et al. is redescribed and the male of the species is described for the first time.

The genus Sicoderus Vanin is revised for the West Indies. A total of 32 species are known with 18 new species described herein as follows: Sicoderus aeneus (Haiti), S. alternatus (Dominican Republic), S. bautistai (Dominican Republic, Haiti), S. beatyi (Cuba), S. bipunctiventris (Cuba), S. caladeler (Cuba), S. detonnancouri (Dominican Republic), S. franzi (Puerto Rico), S. guanyangi (Dominican Republic), S. humeralis (Dominican Republic), S. lucidus (Dominica), S. medranae (Dominican Republic, Haiti), S. perezi (Dominican Republic), S. pseudostriatolateralis (Dominican Republic, Haiti), S. striatolateralis (Dominican Republic), S. thomasi (Haiti), S. turnbowi (Dominican Republic), and S. woodruffi (Grenada). All species are described or redescribed, natural history information is summarized and a listing of locality data from all specimens examined is included. A key is provided to all West Indian species of the genus. All species distributions are mapped and all (excepting S. propinquus Vanin) are represented by habitus images and images of male genitalia.

A New Species

The crustacean order Thermosbaenacea is reported for the first time from the Southern Hemisphere, from almost fresh water in a cave habitat in tropical Western Australia. Halosbaena tulki, sp. nov. belongs to a genus previously known only from saline waters in the West Indies, Columbia and Canary Is. The discovery is consistent with a very ancient origin of the order and distribution of the genus by plate movements following the breakup of Pangaea.

The genus Aristelliger comprises seven species of which six inhabit the West Indies, and one occurs in Central America and satellite islands. For the first time, the genus is reported from Cuba, and a new species (Aristelliger reyesi sp. n.) is described from that island. The new taxon has affinities with the smaller species of the genus (subgenus Aristelligella): A. expectatus, A. cochranae, and A. barbouri. It differs from them in color pattern and other morphological characters.

A key to the six known species of Calliphora Robineau-Desvoidy (Diptera: Calliphoridae) from the Neotropical Regionis given. Species distributions and key characters are discussed. Calliphora irazuana Townsend, 1908 is resurrected as avalid name for a species found in Central America and Mexico, stat. nov. Calliphora triseta sp. nov. is described fromnumerous specimens from Costa Rica, El Salvador and Mexico. Nominal species Calliphora nigra Mello, 1974 and Cal-liphora antojuanae Mariluis, 1982 are synonymized with Calliphora nigribasis Macquart, 1851, n. syn. An Appendix isprovided that clarifies the status of the names Calliphora peruviana Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830, Lucilia peruviana Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830, and Calliphora peruviana Macquart, 1851.

A New Species

A new species of Eurystyles (Orchidaceae: Orchidoideae, Cranichideae, Spiranthinae) is proposed, E. luisortizii Ackerman sp. nov., which is most similar to E. ananassocomos (Rchb.f.) Schltr. from which it differs by a suite of floral traits. This species represents the first confirmed record of the genus for the island of Puerto Rico, bringing the Eurystyles species count for the West Indies to four. A New Species

Abstract The discovery of a new species, Periglischrus empheresotrichus, was determined through a review of museum collections, as well as a field survey of ectoparasites of island bats. This new species parasitizes on two bat species of the genus Monophyllus Leach, the Greater Antillean Long-tongued bat Monophyllus redmani Leach and the Lesser Antillean Long-tongued bat Monophyllus plethodon Miller. The female, male, deuthonymphs, and protonymph are described and illustrated. P. empheresotrichus n. sp. has an insular distribution, we evaluated the morphological variation of the adult populations, and concluded that intra-specific variation is correlated both with host species and locality (island) in the West Indies.
