New data on the spider genus Troglohyphantes (Araneae, Linyphiidae) in the Italian Alps, with the description of a new species and a new synonymy

In this paper we describe Troglohyphantes lanai n. sp. from Pennine Alps and the unknown female of T. bonzanoi, from Ligurian Alps. Based on the collection of new material and on the examination of the paratypes, T. delmastroi Pesarini, 2001 is proposed as junior synonym of T. iulianae Brignoli, 1971 (new synonymy). We also provide new faunistic and ecological data on the Italian species of Troglohyphantes, focusing mainly on Central Italian Alps. Phenetic species groups previously proposed in literature for the Italian species have been updated in view of recent literature and new findings. Pesarini’s complexes of species are used to map the species distribution in the Italian Alps.

The species belonging to the weevil genus Rhinocyllus are studied. A new species, Rhinocyllus alpinus sp. nov. living on the inflorescences of Cirsium alsophilum (Pollini) Soldano (Asteraceae), is described from the central Italian Alps. A new subgenus, Rhinolarinus subgen. nov., is created for this new species. The following new synonymy is proposed: Curculio inquilinus Gyllenhal, 1827 syn. nov. of Rhinocyllus conicus (Froelich, 1792). Lectotypes for Curculio inquilinus Gyllenhal, 1827, Rhinocyllus olivieri Gyllenhal, 1835 and Rhinocyllus oblongus Capiomont, 1873 are designated. Due to lack of type specimens and information subsequently to its description, Rhinocyllus turkestanicus Desbrochers des Loges, 1900 is considered as species incertae sedis. Keys to the subgenera and to the species of Rhinocyllus s. str. are provided and taxonomical differences are illustrated.Key words: Rhinocyllus, Rhinolarinus, new subgenus, new species, Cirsium, Italy

The Palaearctic species of the genus Trichardis Hermann, 1906 are reviewed. A new species, T. lehri sp. nov., is described. A new synonymy is established: T. leucocoma (van der Wulp, 1899) = T. afanasievae Lehr, 1964, syn. nov. The male of T. mongolica V. Richter, 1972 is described for the first time. External features and the male genitalia of T. lehri sp. nov., T. leucocoma (van der Wulp, 1899) and T. mongolica V. Richter, 1972 are illustrated with photographs.

The genus Systenus Loew, 1857 is recorded from Afrotropical Region for the first time. A description of a new species, Systenus africanus Grichanov sp. nov., and notes on females of another probably new Afrotropical species are provided. The genus is considered now as cosmopolitan. A key to species and species groups of the Systenus worldwide is compiled.

Scrophularia dianatnejadii Ranjbar & Rahchamani, a new species from Tehran Province in northern Iran, is described and illustrated. It is closely related to S. amplexicaulis Benth. and shares with it some diagnostic morphological characters such as habit, plant indument, phyllotaxy, and corolla shape and color. Both species are placed in Scrophularia L. sect. Mimulopsis Boiss. Macro- and micromorphological characters of the two are examined and compared. Pollen morphology of these species is investigated using SEM. Detailed descriptions, illustrations, distribution maps, and conservation status of both species are provided.

The giant water bug fauna from tropical South America remains poorly known. Three species of Belostoma Latreille (Belostoma fittkaui De Carlo, B. sayagoi De Carlo and B. hirsutum Roback & Nieser) have been cited only a few times in the literature. These three species are remarkable since they represent an extreme variation for the genus, with article II of the labium distinctly shorter than article III. Here, the synonymy of B. hirsutum with B. sayagoi is proposed based on examination of type material and additional specimens. Further, B. fittkaui and B. sayagoi are redescribed, including discussion about comparative morphology with congeners. A new species group is proposed for these species and a key to the Belostoma species groups is provided. Distribution records are also updated.

Djalmabatista scopulata sp. n. is described and figured as male imago, based on material collected in a light trap in Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species groups with Djalmabatista ivanyae Fittkau, 1968 by having a projection with apical brush on the inner margin of the gonocoxite; it can be separated from D. ivanyae on the banded abdomen.

Based on a census of the polychaete fauna of the Socotra Archipelago in the Indian Ocean we report here new findings on the genus Syllis Savigny in Lamarck, 1818. These ten species are newly recorded from this area: Syllis alternata Moore, 1908; Syllis bouvieri Gravier, 1900; Syllis broomensis (Hartmann-Schröder, 1979); Syllis compacta Gravier, 1900; Syllis crassicirrata (Treadwell, 1925); Syllis gerlachi (Hartmann-Schröder, 1960); Syllis hyalina Grube, 1863; Syllis lutea (Hartmann-Schröder, 1960); Syllis schulzi (Hartmann-Schröder, 1960); Syllis ypsiloides Aguado, San Martín & Ten Hove, 2008. Additionally, Syllis qamhiyn sp. nov. is described as a new species, characterized by its conspicuously thick and short dorsal cirri filled with a gelatinous substance and reduced number of compound chaetae from medium to posterior parapodia, with enlarged shafts and short blades which become almost unidentate and do not fuse with shafts. Following an examination of the holotype of S. bouvieri, its status as a valid species and not as synonym of Syllis prolifera Krohn, 1852, as considered by some authors (see Licher 1999) is confirmed, and a redescription is included.
