A new species of the genus Panolis Hübner, [1821], P. xundian sp. nov., is described and illustrated from southwestern China. It is well-defined morphologically by the male genitalia, with a well-developed pollex at the distal terminal of the sacculus and a broad, ventrally concave cucullus, the female corpus bursae with four long signum-stripes. Based on a 658 bp segment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene, we report the pairwise genetic distance of 2.5% from its allied species P. exquisita Draudt, 1950. Molecular phylogenetic analyses using three genes (2189 bp in total length) indicate that the new species belongs to the P. exquisita species group.

A new species of flower flies, Palpada prietorum Mengual spec. nov. (Diptera: Syrphidae: Eristalinae) is described from Cali, Colombia. The new species belongs to the ruficeps subgroup in the vinetorum species group. An identification key is provided for the species of the ruficeps subgroup, as well as a comparison of morphological diagnostic characters to separate these taxa. Fragments of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene, the D2-3 region of the nuclear 28S rRNA gene and the nuclear internal transcribed spacer (ITS2) are supplied for two species, Palpada prietorum spec. nov. and Palpada ruficeps (Macquart, 1842).

A new species of Gekko is described from the south slope of the west Qinling Mts in Gansu, China. Gekko wenxianensis, sp. nov., is characterized by its nostril-rostral contact, moderate sized body with dorsal tubercles extending from the occiput and temporal region to the back and tail base, but lacking on the forelimb and thigh, 6–8 precloacal pores in a continuous series in males, and tail generally with two cloacal spurs on each side. Molecular phylogenetic analyses using 1556 bp of mtDNA (825 bp COI and 731 bp cyt b) from 7 species of Gekko indicate that the new species is the sister taxon of G. japonicus. It is the twelfth species of Gekko recorded from China.

A new species, Daplasa medoga sp. nov., is described from Tibet, China. The new species can be distinguished morphologically from all other known Daplasa species by its male genitalia with a sagittate uncus and distally broadly crotched valvae. The validity of new species is well supported by the molecular phylogenetic analyses of one mitochondrial gene (COI) and two nuclear genes (EF-1α & RPS5), with a total length of 2,324 bp.

A recent molecular phylogenetic revision of the snake-eyed skinks (genus Panaspis Cope, 1868) uncovered extensive cryptic diversity, including several new species from throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Here, we describe one of these from Ethiopia as Panaspis annettesabinae sp. nov. This description is based on a previous molecular phylogeny and morphological, scalation, and coloration data collected from the type specimen. Phylogenetic analyses place the species alone in what we term the P. annettesabinae species group from Ethiopia. This group forms the sister lineage to a large southern African radiation and suggests a potential northern origin for much of the extant diversity of Panaspis. Many new taxa have recently been discovered in the genus and region, and there are several historical records of Panaspis from elsewhere in Ethiopia. Thus, we suggest that the range of this new species (known only from a single specimen at present) may be much larger, and that additional undescribed species may exist in northern sub-Saharan Africa.

A new species of the genus Goniurosaurus is described based on three specimens collected from a limestone cave in Huaiji County, Guangdong Province, China. Based on molecular phylogenetic analyses, the new species is nested within the Goniurosaurus yingdeensis species group. However, morphological analyses cannot ascribe it to any known species of that group. It is distinguished from the other three species in the group by a combination of the following characters: scales around midbody 121–128; dorsal tubercle rows at midbody 16–17; presence of 10–11 precloacal pores in males, and absent in females; nuchal loop and body bands immaculate, without black spots; iris orange, gradually darker on both sides. The discovery of yet another limestone-adapted species of Goniurosaurus in Guangdong Province underscores a growing body of evidence for the high biodiversity of limestone habitats and brings into sharp focus the urgent need for their conservation.

Twenty-one (six known and 15 new) species of the genus Leucophenga from the Oriental region are described or redescribed: L. jacobsoni Duda, 1926; L. kurahashii Okada, 1987; L. setipalpis Duda, 1923; L. sorii Kang, Lee & Bhang, 1965; L. spinifera Okada, 1987; L. varinervis Duda, 1923; L. acantha Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. alafumosa Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. brevipenis Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. brevitabulata Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. delta Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. forcipula Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. fuscipalpula Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. glabtabulata Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. helvipecta Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. hyaloptera Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. oxyptera Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. platypyga Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. serrateiceps Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. valvata Huang & Chen, sp. nov.; L. zebrina Huang & Chen, sp. nov. A key and a morphological summary table to all these Leucophenga species are provided. Phylogenetic relationships among these 21 Leucophenga species, another 14 congeneric, known species from seven groups, and two representative outgroup taxa are reconstructed using 169 DNA sequences of the partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) gene. In sum, 13 of the 21 Leucophenga species, which possess the only diagnostic character of the proxima species group (abdominal third tergite shortened, anteriorly discolored in males), are not monophyletic. Therefore, all the Leucophenga species described or redescribed in this study are temporarily classified as unplaced species (except for L. sorii, which has been assigned to the sorii species group) to avoid further confusion.

Based on molecular evidence and morphological analyses, a new species in the genus Trametopsis is revealed. Trametopsis aborigena sp. nov. is proposed and described from South America. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of ITS and LSU rDNA sequences suggest that Trametopsis cervina seems to encompass more than one species and confirm previous results showing that Antrodiella brasiliensis groups with Trametopsis. The morphological analyses of type specimens of A. brasiliensis and A. luteocontexta revealed a shared morphological pattern with Trametopsis and their combinations in Trametopsis are proposed. The circumscription of Trametopsis is discussed since all the studied specimens revealed a previously overlooked arrangement of characters, i.e., cylindrical and slightly curved to allantoid basidiospores and a metachromatic hyphal system monomitic in the context and dimitic in the tubes.

A new species of Vanda, V. malipoensis, from Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated in this study based on morphological and molecular evidence. Detailed morphological comparisons between the newly discovered orchid and other members of Vanda s.l. indicate that V. malipoensis is similar to V. christensoniana and V. nana. The new plant differs from the former species by the presence of inflorescences with sparse and smaller flowers, a shorter column and caudiculate pollinia, and it differs from the latter by the presence of longer inflorescences with fully open flowers and erect sidelobes of the lip. Molecular phylogenetic analyses based on nrITS and plastid datasets (atpI-atpH, matK, trnH-psbA, and trnL-F) also support the conclusion that V. malipoensis is a new species in section Ascocentropsis of Vanda s.l. and is sister to V. nana and this pair to V. christensoniana. Given the observed discrepancy between the plastid and nrITS results, hybridization may have been involved in the evolution of this set of species.
