Notes on the known species of Trichomyia Haliday of Mexico, with the establishment of a synonymy and the description of a new species (Diptera: Psychodidae)

Only three species of Trichomyia Haliday have been recorded in Mexico. Trichomyia cirrata Coquillett, 1902, is recognized by its female characteristics, T. fairchildi Vargas and D az-N jera, 1953, was described based only on the wing and must be considered as species inquirenda, and T. maldonadoi (Vargas, 1953), which was described based on one female specimen. Specimens of Trichomyia collected in the states of Campeche, Yucatan, and Oaxaca, Mexico, allowed this female to be associated with the male of T. brevitarsa (Rapp, 1945), thus providing a first report of this species in Mexico. Consequently, T. maldonadoi is proposed as a synonym of T. brevitarsa. Additionally, a new species of Trichomyia from the state of Veracruz, Mexico, is described and illustrated based on the male and female characteristics.

Abstract The helminthological examination of nine individuals of Aetobatus cf. narinari (spotted eagle ray; raya pinta; arraia pintada) revealed the presence of an undescribed species of cestode of the genus Acanthobothrium. The stingrays were collected from four locations in México: Laguna Términos, south of Isla del Carmen and the marine waters north of Isla del Carmen and Champotón, in the State of Campeche, and Isla Holbox, State of Quintana Roo. The new species, nominated Acanthobothrium marquesi, is a category 3 species (i.e, the strobila is long, has more than 50 proglottids, the numerous testicles greater than 80, and has asymmetrically-lobed ovaries); at the present, the only category 3 species that has been reported in the Western Atlantic Ocean is Acanthobothrium tortum. Acanthobothrium marquesi n. sp. can be distinguished from A. tortum by length (26.1 cm vs. 10.6 cm), greater number of proglottids (1,549 vs. 656), a larger scolex (707 µm long by 872 µm wide vs. 699 µm long by 665 µm wide), larger bothridia (626 µm long by 274 µm wide vs. 563 µm long by 238 µm wide). This is the first report of a species of Acanthobothrium from the Mexican coast of the Gulf México.

AbstractA new species of the genus Diomedenema, a spiruromorph nematode, collected from the lung of Spheniscus magellanicus (Sphenisciformes) found on the southern coast of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, is described. The new species is differentiated from the only previously described species of the genus, D. diomedeae Johston & Mawson, 1952, by males possessing a set of caudal papillae with three pairs of precloacal, two pairs of adcloacal and one pair of postcloacal papillae; precloacal papillae with the papillae of the first two pairs being closer to each other than those of the third pair; a longer and pointed tail in males; and females with the vulva at mid-body. This is the first report of a nematode infecting the lung of a sphenisciforme host.

A new species of Cladochaeta Coquillett (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is described, C. caxiuana sp. nov. from the Brazilian Amazon, based on 10 male and 10 female specimens obtained from nymphs of Sphodroscarta trivirgata (Amyot & Serville, 1843) (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Aphrophoridae). The female of Cladochaeta atlantica Pirani & Amorim, 2016 is described based on specimens reared from spider egg sacs of the spider Cryptachaea migrans (Keyserling, 1884) (Araneae: Theridiidae) obtained in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. This is the first record of this fly genus attacking a spider egg sac. The species Cladochaeta sororia (Williston, 1896) is recorded for the first time from Brazil, based on specimens collected in an urban garden in the Amazon. In addition, an unidentified female specimen of Cladochaeta Coquillett, 1900 was obtained from the cocoon of a spider wasp of the genus Notocyphus Smith (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae).

Prockia jaliscana is described and illustrated as a new species from the state of Jalisco, Mexico. This species is similar to P. oaxacana; however, it differs from the latter because it is dioecious, presents linear or lanceolate to foliaceous stipules, has male and female flowers different from those of P. oxacana, apetalous staminate flowers and presents an ovary with ovules in both basal and parietal placentae.

The ant-mimiking spider genus Myrmecium Latreille, 1824 is revised, including 38 species, all herein diagnosed, described and illustrated. The following synonymies are proposed: Myrmecium aurantiacum Mello-Leitão, 1941 syn. nov. with M. camponotoides Mello-Leitão, 1932; M. gounellei Simon, 1896 syn. nov. and M. obscurum Keyserling, 1891 syn. nov. with M. latreillei Lucas, 1857; M. itatiaiae Mello-Leitão, 1932 syn. nov. and M. vertebratum Walckenaer, 1837 syn. nov. with M. rufum Latreille, 1824. Myrmecium bonaerense Holmberg, 1881 is considered as species inquirenda. Males of M. dacetoniforme, Mello-Leitão, 1932, M. fuscum Dahl, 1907, M. latreillei Lucas, 1857, M. trifasciatum Caporiacco, 1947 and adults of M. viehmeyeri Dahl, 1907 and M. reticulatum Dahl, 1907 are described for the first time. Myrmecium bifasciatum Taczanowski, 1874, M. monacanthum Simon, 1897 and M. rufum Latreille, 1824 are also redescribed and illustrated. The following 28 new species are described, diagnosed and illustrated: M. amphora sp. nov. (female from Chichiriviche, Venezuela); M. bolivari sp. nov. Varipes helenae, new species, (Ephemeroptera: Baetidae) is described based on nymphs collected from the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species is distinguished by setation of labrum, number of denticles in both mandibles, prostheca of right mandible bifid, not reduced, medial hump of maxilla with a spiniform seta, distomedial process of labial palp segment 2 rounded, relatively few setae on femora, and number of spines on the paraproct. This is the first report of the genus Varipes from Brazil.

The salticid fauna of Chile is relatively small, consisting of 21 known species in eight genera. The male and female morphology of each species for which material was available is shown. Two new species, Dendryphantes villarrica n. sp. and Euophrys flordellago n.sp. are described. Euophrys pehuenche Galiano, 1968 is synonymised with Euophrys rapida C. L. Koch, 1846. As well, three little known species, Euophrys saitiformis Simon, 1901, Euophrys laetata Simon, 1904 and Euophrys rapida C. L. Koch, 1846 are redescribed from the types. The female of Dendryphantes fulvipes is described for the first time. Several earlier described species remain unidentifiable from modern material. Eighteen names are listed as species inquirenda as the descriptions are inadequate and the location of the types unknown. Keys to the genera and known species are provided. Remarks on the biology and distribution of each species are given.La fauna chilena de saltícidos es relativamente pobre, siendo de 21 especies ubicadas en ocho géneros. Se presenta la morfología del macho y de la hembra de cada una de las especies a las cuales se disponía de material. Se describen dos especies nuevas: Dendryphantes villarrica n. sp. y Euophrys flordellago n.sp. Euophrys pehuenche Galiano, 1968 es reducido a estado de sinónimo con Euophrys rapida C.L. Koch, 1846. Adicionalmente, tres especies poco conocidas― Euophrys saitiformis Simon, 1901, Euophrys laetata Simon, 1904 y Euophrys rapida C.L. Koch, 1846― se vuelven a describir a base de los ejemplares tipos. Por primera veza se decribe la hembra de Dendrophantes fulvipes. Varias especies, posiblemente legítimas, se desconocen en colecciones modernas. Se considera 18 nombres como species inquirenda, ya que sus descripciones originales son inadecuadas y se desconoce la ubicación de los ejemplares tipos. Se presentan llaves para la identificación de los géneros y de las especies conocidas. Se aporta información sobre la biología y distribución de cada especie.

Dicopomorpha Ogloblin, Dicopus Enock and Omyomymar Schauff (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae) are recorded from India for the first time and one new species, Dicopus noyesi Manickavasagam, sp. nov., is described from material collected from the state of Tamil Nadu. Gonatocerus bicoloriventris Zeya, G. breviterebratus Subba Rao, G. shamimi Subba Rao and Hayat, Mymar schwanni Girault, Narayanella thornypoda (Narayanan & Subba Rao) and Polynema mendeli Girault (Mymaridae) are also newly recorded from the state of Tamil Nadu.

We provide the first report of the subfamily Laccophilinae Gistel, 1848 from Baltic amber, based on a female specimen collected in Russia, Kaliningrad Region, Yantarnii (Jantarny) mine. This specimen represents a new species and could be assigned to the extant genus Japanolaccophilus Satô, 1972. To date this genus was monotypic with one species in Japan. The new species is here described as †J. beatificus sp. n. and compared with the extant Japanolaccophilus niponensis (Kamiya, 1939). We also provide a modified key to the Laccophilinae genera of the World, as we found minor errors or ambiguities in recent keys.

We provide the first report of Tischeriidae on Ulmaceae, a novel host-plant family, and describe Tischeria ulmella Xu & Dai, sp. nov., a new species discovered in the Yellow River Scenic Area of Zhengzhou (Henan Province, China), feeding on Ulmus pumila L. We also provide a redescription of the Quercus-feeding Tischeria naraensis Sato discovered in China for the first time. Both species are illustrated with photographs of the adults, male and female genitalia, and the leaf mines.
