Research has not yet begun to investigate the practice or impact of school counselor assignment. A preliminary study sought to explore the nature and consequences of school counselor assignment practices in secondary schools. Secondary school counselors from one large Southeastern school district were asked to complete a questionnaire created for the purpose of this study. The results suggest a significant difference between school counselor assignment at the middle and high school levels. Middle schools predominantly utilized grade-level assignment while high schools used alphabetical assignment. Distinct advantages and challenges were indicated by school counselors from each assignment type. Implications for professional school counselors and future research directions are provided.

Comprehensive, developmental school counseling programming has been associated with numerous benefits for students and is considered current best practice. A qualitative, grounded theory study was conducted to investigate eight professional school counselors employed across grade level, geographic setting, and region within the United States. This article presents this research and the emergent model for successful comprehensive, developmental school counseling program implementation. Implications for school counselor education and practice, as well as future research, are discussed.

Volumetric media (or hologram video), the medium for representing natural content in VR/AR/MR, is presumably the next generation of video technology and a typical use case for 5G and beyond wireless communications. To realize volumetric media applications, efficient volumetric media streaming methods are in critical demand. To this end, this article studies the challenges for and solutions to wireless transmission systems of point cloud video, which is the most popular and favored way to represent volumetric media and significantly differs from the other types of videos. In particular, we first discuss point cloud video technology and its applications and then the challenges of and solutions to point cloud video streaming in 5G systems and beyond, including encoding, tiling, viewing angle prediction, decoding, quality assessment and transmission optimization. A prototype of DASH-based point cloud video streaming system is introduced as a preliminary study, along with more simulation results to verify the performance of the proposed scheme. Moreover, future research directions are identified for providing high-quality point cloud video streaming. <br>

Using the 2002 Educational Longitudinal Study database, a national survey conducted by the National Center of Education Statistics, the authors investigated the characteristics of students who seek out professional school counselors in order to receive college information. Results indicated that African Americans and female students were more likely to contact the school counselor for college information. In addition, students in high-poverty, large schools and schools with smaller numbers of counselors were less likely to seek school counselors for college information. School counselors’ postsecondary aspirations for students also impacted students’ contact with the school counselor. Implications for school counselors and future research are included.

This study explores the relationship between students' online behaviour and their perceived readiness for professional online work. A sample of mass communication students (n=143) from five Rwandan universities completed a questionnaire. Analysis showed that the three dimensions of online behaviour correlated positively with the students' perceived readiness for professional online work. While the respondents' audience engagement levels had the highest correlation with online skills readiness, the frequency of online accounts usage had the weakest correlation. The multiple regression results revealed that levels of engagement and ownership of online accounts were significant predictors of the students' perceived professional online skills readiness. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant difference in perceived professional online skills readiness between students who rated themselves as highly prepared and those who expressed low levels of preparedness for professional online skills. Implications and future research directions are discussed based on the findings.

Social networking has become commonplace in today’s always-connected world. Due to this ubiquity, researchers have sought to explore the positive and negative effects that can result from usage of social networking. This research has shown many effects on an individual's psychological well-being, with one of the most concerning being mixed results of how usage relates to depression. In this study, we further examine the relationship between usage and depression for social networking users. In addition, we posit that aspects of cognitive absorption, namely temporal dissonance, focused immersion, and heightened enjoyment, have a direct effect on the amount of usage. A survey of 251 social networking users reveals that temporal dissociation and heightened enjoyment are associated with increased usage, and usage was found to be associated with greater levels of depression. Further, prior research has shown a significant difference between genders in Internet usage and social networking. Therefore, we report our findings as an overall analysis and as a gender-based between-groups analysis. This analysis shows that more variance is explained for females than males in most relationships. Implications for research and society are discussed along with future research directions.

The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between trait mindfulness and mood and to examine whether the relationship is mediated by mind wandering. Eighty-two individuals ( M age = 24.27 years, SD = 5.64, 18 men, 22%) completed a series of measures including the Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, the Profile of Mood States Questionnaire, and Meditation Breath Attention Exercise. Results showed that the level of mindfulness was significantly correlated with positive and negative mood, and the association between mindfulness and negative mood was mediated by mind wandering. This study indicated the important role of mind wandering in the relation between mindfulness and negative mood. Limitations and future research directions are discussed.
