Abstract Background Nursing is a high-risk occupation that involves exposure to stress. The physical and mental health of nurses is directly related to the quality of medical services, so the quality of life of nurses cannot be ignored. This study is a Chinese nursing study that investigated occupational stress, job burnout, and quality of life of surgical nurses in Xinjiang, China. Methods This study employed the cluster random sampling method and carried out a questionnaire survey among 488 surgical nurses from five hospitals from May 2019 to September 2019. The study analyzed the relationship between occupational stress, job burnout and quality of life. The Effort-Reward Imbalance questionnaire (ERI), Maslach Burnout Inventory General Survey (MBI-GS) and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) were used to evaluate occupational stress, job burnout and quality of life among surgical nurses. Results A total of 550 questionnaires were distributed in this study, and 488 were retrieved, with an effective recovery rate of 88.73 %. The results revealed that the quality of life score among surgical nurses was not high, and differences were observed in the quality of life score of patients according to gender, age, title, and frequency of night shifts (P < 0.05). There was a positive correlation between occupational stress and job burnout. Higher levels of occupational stress and job burnout were associated with a poorer quality of life score. Occupational stress and job burnout were identified as risk factors for quality of life, and the interaction between high levels of stress and burnout seriously reduced quality of life. The structural equation model revealed that occupational stress and job burnout had a direct impact on quality of life, occupational stress had a direct impact on job burnout, and job burnout was identified as a mediating factor in the relationship between occupational stress and quality of life. Conclusions Surgical nurses have a high level of occupational stress and burnout, and low quality of life score. Quality of life is correlated with occupational stress and job burnout. According to the individual characteristics and psychological state of nurses, managers can implement personalized intervention measures promptly and effectively to relieve their tension and burnout, and improve the quality of life of surgical nurses.

Also, the level of fear of coronavirus is below average among the respondents. The research showed that emotional exhaustion and fear of COVID-19 were positively correlated (p < 0.05), but there was not any significant correlation between depersonalization and fear of Coronavirus; as the relationship between reduced personal accomplishment and fear of COVID-19. In addition, there were significant correlations between age and reduced personal accomplishment, as well as marital status and reduced personal accomplishment (p < 0.05). On the other hand, the results showed that there were not any significant correlations between gender and burnout dimensions, nor between educational degree and burnout dimensions.Conclusion: As job burnout reduces the quality of nursing care, managers must take strategies that reduce job burnout. One of the strategies that they can take is to reduce the fear of COVID-19 by taking wise strategies.

ASSESSING THE RELATIONSHIP OF NUTRITIONAL STATUS TO THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF CANCER PATIENTS RECEIVING CHEMOTHERAPY AT THE ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF HUE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY Background: Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally as well as in Vietnam. Chemotherapy is a systemic treatment with chemical drugs. Chemotherapy often causes many problems related to physical, mental and toxicity, which have an effect on the quality of life and nutritional status of patients. While malnutrition has been shown to be common in cancer patients, its impacts on the patient's quality of life have not been adequately studied, especially in Vietnam. Objective: To evaluate the quality of life of cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. To determine the relationship of nutritional status to the quality of life in these patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 82 patients with cancer during a chemotherapytreatment at the Department of Oncology, Hue College of Medicine and Pharmacy from February 2018 to February 2019. Assessing the quality of life by the Quality of Life Questionnaire of the European Organizationfor Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC QLQ-C30). Descriptive statistics and test Chi-square and Fisher exact were performed to analyze the quality of life parameters and the relationship between nutritional status and quality of life. Results: A total of 82 subjects were included in this study, 51 subjects (62.20%) were males and 31 subjects (37.80%) were females, the mean age was 58.98 ± 12.52. The most common type of cancer is gastrointestinal cancer (37.80%), the highest stage of cancer is stage 4 (56.10%), symptomatic chemotherapy accounts for the highest rate with 53.70% and the average number of chemotherapy cycles is 4.00 ± 3.68. The study shows that the meanglobal health status is 50.00 ± 16.89, the best quality of life score is in the field of cognitive function with 83.33 points, the worst quality of life score is in the symptoms field of insomnia and in the financial difficulties with 66.67 points. Results from Chi-square and Fisher Exact analysis test revealed a statistically significant association between the risk of malnutrition according to SGA classification and the role functioning offunctional scales (p <0.05). Conclusions: The quality of life of cancer patients is generally good. The nutritional status affects the quality of life in the field of role function. This study examined how job burnout was associated with sick-leave absence and quality of life in a sample of 487 nurses working in the National Health Care System. Burnout was measured with the Maslach Burnout Inventory, while quality of life was measured with Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36). Data on sick leaves were collected from hospital personnel records. Logistic regression indicated that levels of burnout (emotional exhaustion) were significant predictors of short-term (but not long-term) sickness absence. Long-term sickness absence could be predicted by poor physical health. The findings indicate that burnout not only may negatively impact on quality of life of health-care providers, but also may influence short sick leaves. Implications for the implementation of absence reduction programs are discussed.

This research aimed to investigate the differences between individual factors affecting quality of life (QOL) for people conducting community-based tourism (CBT). A sample size of 200 comprised people in CBT, Thailand. The data were collected to achieve the research objective by studying the personal profiles of people in CBT including sex, age, education, occupation and income affecting quality of life. Other factors included physical conditions of individuals, psychological state, perception of the relationship between individuals and others and environment. The research employed descriptive and inferential statistics, the F test (one-way ANOVA), to evaluate the data. The results revealed that only education factor significantly differed at level 0.05. Conversely, the factors sex, age, occupation and income showed no significant differences at level 0.05. The result of a study indicates educational level was essential for QOL. Therefore, education, as the most significant factor, should be set as a priority to lead the planning process in various aspects of QOL. Even the community and society need to focus on educational factors leading to a higher QOL. The contribution of this research was to enhance education in society, particularly in CBT to all individuals in the community to obtain greater opportunity to equally access education.
