The crystal structure of [Cu(sac)2(nic)2(H2O)] (sac = saccharinate anion; nic = nicotinamide) has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 4 and the Cu(II) ion presents a CuN4O square pyramidal coordination. Some comparisons with related structures are made and the most important features of its IR spectrum were also discussed.

AbstractA potassium tetranitratopalladate(II) with the composition K2[Pd(NO3)4] · 2HNO3 was synthesized by a simple solvothermal process in a glass ampoule. The new compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c (no. 14) with the lattice parameters a = 1017.15(4), b = 892.94(3), c = 880.55(3) Å, and β = 98.13(1)° (Z = 2). The crystal structure of K2[Pd(NO3)4] · 2HNO3 reveals isolated complex [Pd(NO3)4]2− anions, which are surrounded by eight potassium cations and four HNO3 molecules. The complex anions and the cations are associated in layers which are separated by HNO3 molecules. K2[Pd(NO3)4] · 2HNO3 can thus be regarded as a HNO3 intercalation variant of β-K2[Pd(NO3)4]. The characterization is based on single-crystal X-ray and powder X-ray diffraction.

The crystal structure of zerumbone, C15H22O, extracted from the rhizomes of Zingiber zerumbet Smith, has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction at 295(1) K and refined by least squares to a residual of 0.051 for 925 'observed' reflections. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/c, a 9.036(3), b 9.712(5), c 15.643(6) , β 97.19(3), Z = 4. Although the molecule has no chiral centre, the presence of the three trans double bonds confers considerable distortion and rigidity on the eleven-membered ring and renders the whole molecule chiral and potentially resolvable.

Abstract The crystal structure of a copper(II) complex of protonated sildenafil, CuCl3C22H31N6O4S⋅2H2O was studied by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with the unit cell parameters a = 15.4292(2), b = 9.06735(12), c = 21.1752(2) Å, V = 2945.48(7) Å3, Z = 4. The Cu atom is coordinated by the sildenafil ligand via the N2 atom of the pyrazolopyrimidine ring and by three chloride anions. Sildenafil is protonated at the methylated N6 atom of the piperazine ring and it is cation ligand with a 1+ charge.

Abstract The crystalline compounds [(CH3C6H5)2Hg,][AlCl4]2 (1), [(1,2-(CH3)2C6H4)2Hg2][AlCl4]2(2), [(1,3,5-(CH3)3C6H3)2Hg2][AlCl4]2 (3), [1,2,4,5-(CH3)4C6H2Hg2][AlCl4]2 (4) and [((CH3)6C6)2Hg2][AlCl4]2-CH3C6H5 (5) have been prepared from mercury(I)chloride, aluminium trichloride and the corresponding arenes and characterized by elem ental analysis. The crystal structure of 5 has been determ ined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data and refined to R - 0.093 for 3269 unique reflections. Crystal data: monoclinic, space group P21/c, a = 2116(1), b = 1095.1(7), c = 1880(1) pm, β - 104,9(1)°, Z = 4. Each atom of a central Hg2 unit (Hg -Hg distance 251.5 pm) is asymmetrically complexed by hexamethylbenzene, the Hg - Carene distances being in the range from 241 to 340 pm. Two distorted AlCl4 tetrahedra complete a “molecular” [arene2Hg2][AlCl4]2 unit. The shortest Hg-Cl distances are 310 and 312 pm, respectively.

The structure and absolute configuration of heterocladol, C15H26BrClO (6), have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. This compound is the first example of a selinane skeleton reported from Laurencia species and its structure can be rationalized in terms of a trans-annular ring closure of a germacradiene. The colourless crystals are monoclinic, space group P21, with a 11.852, b 14.486, c 10.932 Ǻ, β 119.6, Z4.

Zinc azide · 4-methylpyridine (1) is formed by the reaction of zinc azide with the corresponding pyridine in aqueous solution. The crystal structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The crystals of 1 are monoclinic, space group C2/c, Z = 4, a = 1085.5(2), b = 1692.7(11), c = 619.7(6) pm, β = 113.47(5)°. Each zinc atom is surrounded by five nitrogen atoms (four from azide groups and one from the pyridine adduct) in a distorted trigonal bipyramidal fashion. The ZnN5-polyhedra share common edges to form chains along the crystallographic c-axis.

The title complexes, (η4-cycloocta-1,5-diene)bis(1,3-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidene)iridium(I) iodide, [Ir(C5H8N2)2(C8H12)]I, (1) and (η4-cycloocta-1,5-diene)bis(1,3-diethylimidazol-2-ylidene)iridium(I) iodide, [Ir(C7H12N2)2(C8H12)]I, (2), were prepared using a modified literature method. After carrying out the oxidative addition of the amino acid L-proline to [Ir(COD)(IMe)2]I in water and slowly cooling the reaction to room temperature, a suitable crystal of 1 was obtained and analyzed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction at 100 K. Although this crystal structure has previously been reported in the Pbam space group, it was highly disordered and precise atomic coordinates were not calculated. A single crystal of 2 was also obtained by heating the complex in water and letting it slowly cool to room temperature. Complex 1 was found to crystallize in the monoclinic space group C2/m, while 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pccn, both with Z = 4.
