Abstract A new cobalt-based coordination polymer (CP), [Co(Htatb)(1,4-bib)]·DMF (1), has been hydrothermally synthesized from CoCl2 ·6H2O, 4,4′,4′′-s-triazine-2,4,6-tribenzoic acid (H3tatb), and 1,4-bis(1-imidazoly)benzene (1,4-bib). The product has been characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In compound 1, the Htatb ligand links three CoII ions resulting in a double-strand chain structure, further bridged through the 1,4-bib ligands to generate a 2D structure with channels. The fluorescence and cyclovoltammetry characteristics of compound 1 have also been investigated.

The new coordination polymers (CPs) [Zn(μ-1κO1:1κO2-L)(H2O)2]n·n(H2O) (1) and [Cd(μ4-1κO1O2:2κN:3,4κO3-L)(H2O)]n·n(H2O) (2) are reported, being prepared by the solvothermal reactions of 5-{(pyren-4-ylmethyl)amino}isophthalic acid (H2L) with Zn(NO3)2.6H2O or Cd(NO3)2.4H2O, respectively. They were synthesized in a basic ethanolic medium or a DMF:H2O mixture, respectively. These compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and elemental analysis. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that compound 1 is a one dimensional linear coordination polymer, whereas 2 presents a two dimensional network. In both compounds, the coordinating ligand (L2−) is twisted due to the rotation of the pyrene ring around the CH2-NH bond. In compound 1, the Zn(II) metal ion has a tetrahedral geometry, whereas, in 2, the dinuclear [Cd2(COO)2] moiety acts as a secondary building unit and the Cd(II) ion possesses a distorted octahedral geometry. Recently, several CPs have been explored for the cyanosilylation reaction under conventional conditions, but microwave-assisted cyanosilylation of aldehydes catalyzed by CPs has not yet been well studied. Thus, we have tested the solvent-free microwave-assisted cyanosilylation reactions of different aldehydes, with trimethylsilyl cyanide, using our synthesized compounds, which behave as highly active heterogeneous catalysts. The coordination polymer 1 is more effective than 2, conceivably due to the higher Lewis acidity of the Zn(II) than the Cd(II) center and to a higher accessibility of the metal centers in the former framework. We have also checked the heterogeneity and recyclability of these coordination polymers, showing that they remain active at least after four recyclings.

[Cu(L)(AIP)·1.5H2O]n (1) [L= 3,5-di(benzimidazol-1-yl)pyridine, H2AIP= 5-aminoisophthalic acid] was prepared by the solvothermal reaction, which was characterized by single-crystal X–ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. 1 exhibits an infinite two dimensional [Cu(AIP)]n sheet parallel to (0 1 1) crystal plane. Furthermore, complex 1 displays good photocatalytic degradation of methyl blue (MB).

The reaction of AgCF3CO2 with nitrilotriacetate (NTA) yields the three-dimensional silver(i) coordination polymer {Ag3[N(CH2COO)3]}n 1 which was characterized by means of elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy as well as X-ray diffraction. The single crystal structure shows that the NTA3– anions act as unusual heptadentate 13-coordination agents and the silver(i) atoms exhibit various coordination numbers in the range 3–6.

AbstractTwo new complexes, {[Cd(immb)I2]·DMF}n (1) and {[Cd3(immb)(btc)2]·H2O}n (2) (immb = 2-(1H-imidazol- 1-methyl)-6-methyl-1H-benzimidazole, btc = 1,2,3-benzenetricarboxylate, DMF = dimethyl formamide), have been synthesized and characterized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction shows that 1 exhibits a chain structure constructed by immb ligands bridging Cd(II) ions. In 2, Cd(II) ions are linked by immb ligands with bridging mode and btc3– anions with the μ2-η2:η1 bonding pattern leading to a 2D structure. Luminescent properties have been investigated in the solid state at room temperature.

A novel zirconium(IV)-substituted tetramer polyoxotungstate, H6K4Na16[Zr4(β-GeW10O38)2(A-α-PW9O34)2]·37H2O, was synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic P2/n space group. The most remarkable feature is that the centrosymmetric Zr-based polyoxotungstate tetramer consists of dilacunary Keggin-type germanotungstate and trilacunary Keggin-type phosphotungstate units that are linked by ZrIV ions.

Abstract The reaction of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O with N1,N2-di(pyridin- 4-yl)oxalamide (L) and KSCN in the presence of DMF by the layering method gives rise to a new complex [Cu(L2)(SCN)2(DMF)2]n (1). Complex 1 has been characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. It crystallizes in the triclinic system with space group P1̅ and shows a chain structure. Delicate N-H···O hydrogen bonding exists in individual units, and adjacent chains are linked by intermolecular interactions, resulting in an extended 2D network.

The title compound, N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-L-alanine) zinc(II), [Zn(C10H11N3O2S)], a coordination polymer derived from the mixed ligands, N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-L-alanine (HL1) and ammonium thiocyanide (L2) has been synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, 1H-NMR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and single crystal x-ray structure determination. The single crystal X-ray structure analysis of the title compoundreveals a molecular polymeric compound that crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system and P2(1)2(1)2(1) space group. The ligand acts as a bridge between adjacent zinc(II) centres, each of which adopts a five-coordinate geometry.  Zinc bonds to two N atoms and one O atom of HL1, one N atom of L2 and one O atom of another HL1 ligand. This is confirmed by IR spectroscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis shows a one-step decomposition of the complex to leave a zinc sulfide residue.                     KEY WORDS: Zinc(II), N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-(L)-alanine) ligand, Isothiocyanate, Coordination polymer, Single crystal structure   Bull. AbstractThe reaction of Cu(II) nitrate with sodium 2-chlorobenzoate (NaL1) and (E)-1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethene (dpe) yields a new complex [Cu(L1)2(dpe)(H2O)] (1). When Zn(II) nitrate reacts with sodium 4-chlorobenzoate (NaL2) and 1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethane (dpa), [Zn(L2)2(dpa)]·CH3OH (2) is obtained. Complexes 1 and 2 have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. 1 shows a 3D CdS network structure with uninodal 4-connected (65.8) topology; complex 2 displays a chain structure.
