In the literary and artistic discourse of the 20–30’s of the XX century. Interest in P. Kulish is growing among literary scholars. It was in the 1920s that the archive of P. Kulish was transferred to the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, which became a serious documentary, source base for the study of works, literary-critical views, and outlook of this writer. P. Kulish is considered to be one of the first Europeanists of Ukrainian culture to lay the foundation for the modern modern culture of the 1920s. For example, G. Grabovych called P. Kulish a driving force and the founder of the newest Ukrainian intellectual, critical thought and those dimensions of national consciousness that underlie it, and a key figure in the formation of modern Ukrainian culture. He quite rightly noted about P. Kulish M. Dragomanov: “… one of the Ukrainophiles hits the point of world, human culture, which will lift our people”.

The author analyses the history of the establishment of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in Kyiv. He examines the legal procedures for the Academy’s establishment and emphasises that mutual understanding between the scientific community and authorities provides an opportunity to resolve a fundamental nation-wide problem within a short time span. It is also stressed that the crucial role in drafting the Law on the Establishment of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences belongs to M.P. Vasylenko and V.I. Vernadskyi, like-minded prominent scholars and men of science, towering figures who considered science as the blissful power. In addition, the article examines the main tasks pursued by the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, namely providing a sound scientific underpinning for the development of Ukrainian society as well as increasing the role of sciences in civil life. The article substantiates that the comprehensive development of seminal works has always been and still remains the primary purpose of the Academy. All scholars who took part in its development disinterestedly worked upon the implementation of its concept and dedicated their lives to education. The author singles out five rather different periods in the operation of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences: the establishment, expansion of activities during the World War II, post-war rejuvenation, development, and golden age owing to scientific and technological advancement. The fifth period is modern and has lasted since 1991. In the end, the author emphasises that the establishment of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences was designed as a large-scale and socially significant project, whose implementation has eventually given rise to a powerful national intellectual centre with an ever increasing contribution to the development of the country, nation, and personalities. According to the fundamental principles and strategic goals of the Academy, its activity has been expanding for over a hundred years both in favourable and disadvantageous times, in conditions of social stability and continuous social changes. We reveal the features of the development of project activity skills among students in the educational environment of the university. It is substantiated that the project activity, which is used in the teaching process of students, contributes to the development of knowledge, skills, it is able to form the competencies they need, to become a versatile personality. It is proved that in the educational environment, willingness to learn new knowledge, skills, focus on results, hard work is being developed, creative thinking is developing, and most importantly, high skill and qualifica-tion are acquired. It is concluded that the design process is a kind of transition of the student from one state to another, step-by-step conditions that allow you to achieve great educational, practical results in a shorter period of time. The design process is the most effective and comfortable for students, since this process focuses on the individuality of each person, which, in the process of joint, teamwork, undergoes changes in the student himself, by taking a certain role in the design process. It is proved that the creation in the educational environment of the most favorable condi-tions for the development of students’ skills leads to the successful and effective formation of a holistic, informed personality, which, in turn, is the driving force for the development of society as a whole. The skills that a graduate possesses determine the level of development of the educational environment.

The article is dedicated to the 170-th anniversary of Olena Pchilka’s birth. Olha Kosach (1849–1930, Olena Pchilka being her literary pseudonym) was a Ukrainian writer, corresponding member of the Pan-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, folklorist, ethnographer, journalist, publisher, social and cultural activist. She was also the mother of Lesia Ukrainka, Mykhailo Obachnyi and Olesia Zirka.The article highlights one of the most important periods of her life, strongly connected to Kyiv. Olha Kosach had been studying here at Mrs. Nelhovska’s boarding school for girls and then lived together with the family of her brother Mykhailo Drahomanov who was a professor at St. Volodymyr University. She married Petro Kosach, a lawyer and conciliator in court cases of peasants an member of the union “Stara Hromada”. Later in Volyn young Olha Kosach never broke up her ties with Kyiv, working on her first scholarly research about Ukrainian folk ornament, translating from Russian and Polish, writing her own poetry, prose and drama. She was one of the editors of “Kiievskaya Starina” (“Kyiv Antiquity”) journal and active participant in Literary and Artistic Community, Kyiv “Prosvita” (“Education”) Community, Ukrainian Club. The journal “Ridnyi Krai” (“Native Land”) was published in Kyiv at her own expense. It had a supplement “Moloda Ukraina” (“Young Ukraine”), being the first periodical for children in Dnieper Ukraine. Kosach family lived in Kyiv permanently since 1899 and resided at 97, 115, 101 Mariinsko-Blahovischenska str., (now P. Saksahanskoho str.). The editorial office of the above-mentioned journals was situated at the same buildings. The prominent figures of the Ukrainian culture M. Lysenko and M. Starytskyi were the neighbors of the family. Nowadays the address accommodates Lesia Ukrainka Literary Museum (97, Saksahanskoho str.).1924–1930 was the last period of Olena Pchilka’s life in Kyiv. She lived at 7 Bahovutivska str., later at 16 Ovrutska str., and worked actively as a research fellow of the Pan-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. She was elected a corresponding member of the Academy on the 6th of April 1925. Olena Pchilka issued “Ukrainski Uzory” (“Ukrainian Ornaments”), her last lifetime album, in 1927, and the book “Stories. With autobiography” in 1930. The writer was buried in Baikove Cemetery, next to the graves of her husband Petro Kosach and her children Mykhailo Obachnyi and Lesia Ukrainka.

The introduction to the thematic issue devoted to philosophical sciences reveals the concept that unites all the articles published therein. Philosophical topics are developed by Russian scientists in different cities, scientific organisations and universities. One of the most famous in the modern philosophical world is the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The thematic philosophical issue contains articles by authors from this famous philosophical institute. However, not only Moscow School is presented in this issue, but no less famous St. Petersburg and Ural Schools of Philosophy also have their scientific representatives. Krasnoyarsk philosophers are represented by works related to philosophical methodology and historical and philosophical perceptions in modern culture. At present, Russian humanities refer to philosophy as a metatheory that provides the most effective methodological and conceptual approaches not only for the social sciences and humanities, but also for modern natural science and technological discoveries
