Burnout continues to be apparent among teachers and often leads to increased health care costs, absenteeism, and turnover rates. Burnout stems from unmanaged stress, which is the result of teachers’ response to challenges in the workplace. The purpose of this cross-sectional design study was to examine the relationship between mindfulness techniques and resilience in high school teachers. An additional purpose was to examine whether the personality trait and conscientiousness moderate the relationship between mindfulness techniques and resilience. The frameworks for this study were based on the self-awareness, -regulation, and -transcendence (S-ART) framework, the theory of planned behavior, and the concepts of resilience and job burnout. Four surveys were used to gather data from 133 high school teachers to understand the relationship between mindfulness techniques and resilience as well as how conscientiousness moderates the relationship. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the data. This study found a significant relationship between mindfulness techniques and resilience in high school teachers. Additionally, this study found that conscientiousness does not significantly moderate the relationship between mindfulness techniques and resilience in high school teachers. These results might be used to create a professional development tool for teachers to help them learn how to increase the quality of classroom interactions and their resilience through the use of mindfulness techniques. The outcome may be a more positive social and academic environment for students as well as teachers, based on the encouraged use of mindfulness techniques.

High school teachers experience high levels of job stress, which could lead to serious health problems. This study focused on Chinese high school teachers, as they have to manage negative stress and health issues. The research aimed to: (1) investigate the relationship between hindrance job stress, depersonalization, and physical health; (2) investigate if servant leadership, in fact moderates the relationship between hindrance job stress and depersonalization, as well as physical health. The study desisgn was cross-sectional and data analyses were conducted by using SPSS 21 and Mplus 7. The sample consisted of 857 high school teachers across Southern China. The results showed that hindrance stress is related to depersonalization among high school teachers (β = 0.63, p < 0.01). Both hindrance job stress (β = 0.32, p < 0.01) and depersonalization (β = 0.16, p < 0.01) are positively related to physical health. In addition, servant leadership moderates the relationship between hindrance job stress and physical health among the Chinese high school teachers (β = −0.09, p < 0.01). However, the results did not find that the effect of hindrance job stress on depersonalization is moderated by servant leadership (β = 0.02, p = 0.53). It is suggested that Chinese high schools recruit and train leaders in servant leadership, relieve teachers’ stress, and promote their health to ensure the sustainable development of schools.

Background: Obesity that occurs in adolescents (age >18 years) shows a significant increase, from 12% in 2007 to 13% in 2010 and 19% in 2019 in males, and from 13% to 28% in 2013 in females. Objective: To analyze the prediction model of obesity among teachers in senior high school in Kendari. Methods: This was a prediction cross-sectional study. There were 250 high school teachers were recruited from 12 senior high schools using purposive sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires (food frequency, consumption recall, and activities recall questionnaire), Seca weight scale, anthropometry microtoice, meter, computer program, and stationery. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square.Results: Findings showed that there was a significant correlation between age group (p = 0.05), knowledge (p= 0.02), stress (p= 0.05) and diet (p= 0.013). The prediction factor of obesity among high school teachers is that teachers with an upper age (age> 45 years) tend to be obese 2.64 times that teachers at a young age (age <45 years). And if teachers experience stress, then they will suffer from obesity 2.17 times compared with teachers have no stress. Conclusion: Factors associated with obesity in high school teachers in Kendari is age group, knowledge, stress and dietary factors while the factors that are not related in this study are attitudes about nutrition, activity and smoking habits. The highest predictors of obesity in teacher of senior high school are age and stress.

Background: Well-being is increasingly emerging as an important determinant of teacher effectiveness. Aim and objective: To assess the predictors of psychological well-being in Southern India. Settings and design: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 460 high school teachers from government and private schools in Udupi district. Methods and materials: Ryff’s psychological well-being scale (1989) was used. Statistical analysis used: Predictors were identified using logistic regression and p<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant Results: Autonomy, personal growth, positive relations, purpose in life and self-acceptance emerged as predictors of psychological well-being. Age predicted the subdomain of autonomy; number and age of children predicted environmental mastery; gender, monthly income and travelling time of teachers predicted the subdomain of self-acceptance among teachers. Conclusion: Teachers are an important resource whose psychological well-being has not received the attention it is due. An intervention program designed to fit their felt needs may be a step in the right direction.

The extensive availability of Internet has led to the recognition of problematic Internet use (so called Internet addiction, IA) mostly involving adolescents. There are limited data about the prevalence and consequences of IA in adults especially among high school teachers. Here, we present a cross-sectional prospective study focusing on the association of Internet addiction with burnout, depression, insomnia, and lower quality of life among high school teachers taking many co-variates into account. Overall, 623 males (34.3%) and 1194 females (65.7%) participated in our study. Internet addiction was detected in 5.2% (95/1817) based on the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire. Internet addiction was associated with severe burnout (10.5 vs. 2.7%, p < 0.001), moderate (36.8 vs. 1.7%, p < 0.001), and severe (6.3 vs. 0.1%, p < 0.001) depression, insomnia (23.1 vs. 11.4%, p < 0.001), and severe sleep disturbance (severe insomnia, 27.4 vs. 3.8%, p < 0.001) and lower quality of life in all domains (p < 0.001). There was also a significant correlation of the severity of the above-mentioned parameters and the severity of IA (overall scores, p < 0.001 in all cases). In a multivariate analysis including demographic criteria, risk factors medical conditions and the above-mentioned parameters as co-variates internet addiction was significantly associated with depression (OR = 3.836, CI: 2.92–5.44, p = 0.03), and insomnia (OR: 3.932, CI: 3.6–5.69, p = 0.002). This is the first study from Hungary and is one of the first studies showing the association of IA with mental issues, burnout, and lower quality of life among adults. It underlines the clinical importance of problematic Internet use among adults.

Background: Hypertension is an important public health problem. High blood pressure is one of the leading risk factors for premature deaths. Job strain can impact blood pressure directly through neuro-endocrine mechanisms. Teaching in school especially at the secondary school level has been identified as one of the most stressful professions. The present study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of hypertension and its association with occupational stress among high school teachers of Dibrugarh district. Methods: A community based cross sectional study among all government high school teachers of Dibrugarh district was done. All high school teachers in the age group ≥21 years to <60 years of both sexes were included. The sample size was calculated to be 335 using the formula, n=4pq/d2. Results: Out of the 335 study participants, 45.4% were hypertensive while the remaining 54.6% were non-hypertensive. Study participants who had stress as a problem had highest prevalence of hypertension (84.6%). The association between prevalence of hypertension and occupational stress of the study participants was observed to be statistically significant as (p<0.05). Conclusions: From the findings of the study it was concluded that the prevalence of hypertension among high school teachers of Dibrugarh district was high (45.4%). The prevalence of hypertension was found to be significantly associated with occupational stress.
