Presented are the assumptions and a description of the work carried out as part of the action on the development of a project to assist the prevention of social exclusion of people with disabilities. The developed research and training simulator for a car with a weight of up to 3.5 tons will allow the study of the suitability of various solutions enabling the driving of a motor vehicle for people with upper and lower limb dysfunctions. This simulator equipped with a driver’s cockpit attached to the motion platform, platform, image projection system and application will be tested with the participation of 20 people.

Background: Completing the transition from a sitting position to a standing position is a basic skill in people’s daily lives and is crucial for independent living. Lower limb dysfunction will bring many inconveniences into a person’s life and greatly affect their quality of life. Patients with lower limb dysfunction are a specialized group, and nursing problems for this group are becoming increasingly serious. Helping patients with lower limb dysfunction restore their lower limb mobility or assisting them to walk is a social problem necessary to be solved. Objective: : To review the recent sit-to-stand assistive devices based on hip support, classify them systematically and introduce their characteristics, including the mechanisms and the types of patients for which such mechanisms are applicable; to help patients with lower limb dysfunction or doctors (therapists) understand and choose a reasonable sit-to-stand assist device based on hip support. Methods: This paper summarizes literatures and patents about sit-to-stand assistive devices. From the aspects of structural characteristics, drive type and support modes based on the hip and applications situation, the advantages and disadvantages of the typical sit-to-stand assist devices are represented. Results: Current and future development trends on the structural characteristics, drive type and support modes based on the hip and applications situation of sit-to-stand assist devices are discussed to improve the humanization, modularization and applicability of sit-to-stand assist devices. Conclusion: Sit-to-stand assistive devices based on hip support can help patients improve the quality of their life, assist patients carrying out rehabilitation training, and delay the decline of lower limb function. However, the existing sit-to-stand assistive devices based on hip support need further improvement in the aspects of motion mechanism, new technology application and ergonomics design.

A kind of 3-RPS and 3-DOF parallel robotic mechanisms is used as motion-sensible-platform of gun training simulator to implement the motion simulation. Its dynamics is analyzed and driving force of joint is gained. This paper introduces the study on motion generation of gun training simulator. The moving model of gun is established on the basis of the model of vehicle. We solve the pose of gun by applying the theory of homogeneous matrix. In order to ensure actuators moving at a preset speed and enable the motion-sensible-platform to perform a real-time moving posture simulation of a wheeled gun vehicle in running, the speed equation of actuator is given. The feasibility of models was tested through the simulation experiments. All of these works are beneficial to optimize design and control realization of motion platform structure.

The article presents the continuation of work related to the creation of a car driving simulator with a weight of up to 3.5 tons adapted to selected disabilities. The article contains a description of the developed motion platform with six degrees of freedom and the cockpit. In order to ensure the possibility of being managed by the largest group of people with physical disabilities, selected support solutions were implemented. These devices can be easily dismantled to test others. The platform together with the cockpit is controlled from the simulator application and the image is presented to the simulation participant in 3D projection glasses and optionally on a three-segment screen.

Functioning adults with disabilities in GermanyIn Germany, the issue of prevention of social exclusion of people with disabilities is treated as the primary task of public policy. This article presents German solutions for adults with disabilities thanks to they are integrated into professional and social life. Among these solutions are own budget, job’s assistant, work in the professional workshop, support in accomodation, tax breaks, subsidies for rehabilitation equipment.

ABSTRACTObjectivesLower limb posterior chain injury (PCI) is common amongst athletic populations, with multi-factorial risk factors including age, previous injury, strength measurements, range of motion and training load. Biomechanics are commonly considered in the prevention and rehabilitation of PCI by performance staff. However, there is no documented testing method to assess for associations between biomechanics and PCI. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is an association between an easily applicable, novel biomechanical assessment tool and PCI.MethodsFifty male elite-level rugby union athletes (age 22.83±5.08) participating in the highest tier of England were tested at the start of the 2019 pre-season period and PCIs (N=48) were recorded over the 2019/20 playing season. Participants’ biomechanics were analysed using two-dimensional video analysis against an Injury Risk Score (IRS) system in the performance of the combined movement – prone hip extension and knee flexion. Participants’ biomechanics in carrying out this movement were scored against the 10-point IRS, where the more compensatory movement recorded sees an increase in an individual’s IRS. Participants’ IRS were then compared against the number of PCI sustained and Spearman’s correlation coefficient was utilised for analysis.ResultsThere is a good significant association between IRS and PCI (R=0.573, p<0.001). Linear Regression demonstrated that an increase of 1 in IRS was associated with a 35% increase in PCI incidence (R2=0.346).ConclusionA good significance between the IRS and PCI provides preliminary support for its use as an injury risk assessment tool.

The purpose of this study was to enhance the understanding of how people with disabilities experience the meaning of their assistive devices in their occupations and how they act on their experiences. Seventeen participants were interviewed and data were analyzed using a qualitative approach. The participants' experiences showed that they reacted differently to the manifold and often contradictory meaning of assistive devices. The analysts organized the participants' reactions into three categories: pragmatic users, ambivalent users, and reluctant users. The differences between the participants were understood as representing different adaptive approaches to achieve desired occupational self-images. Thus, the assistive devices were not in themselves important, but were merely a means to achieve a desired self-image. The findings reflect that the participants' experiences of using assistive devices reveal meanings about their use that go beyond the traditional medical perspective that focuses on the role of assistive devices as compensation for physical impairment.

The importance of professional competence lies in the effective application of job-oriented knowledge and skills which guarantee one’s successful adaptation to the work. This study analyzes the perception of the importance of physical activity and sports (PAS) professionals’ competence in working with individuals with disabilities in Spain. As a descriptive quantitative study, face-to-face interviews were conducted through a survey to extract the data. The sample consisted of 214 PAS professionals working with people with disabilities. According to the results, the analyzed constituents of professional competence are important for adequate performance (&gt;65%), with the exception of competences of leadership and use of new technologies (&lt;50%). It was also found that the perceived importance of each element of professional competence varies according to age, experience and training. Based on the obtained results, the degree of importance of each constituent of professional competence and its implication for the access of people with disabilities to high-quality physical activity and sports services was determined.

The authors studied simulated driving performance of a group of adults who were experienced marijuana smokers, familiar with the effects of alcohol, who were licensed motor vehicle operators, and were engaged in educational or vocational pursuit. Simulated driving performance was studied in a darkened chamber with the subjects at the controls of a driver-training simulator containing control and instrument equipment relevant to driving, and facing a screen upon which a test film was projected. The effects of marijuana (two cigarettes totalling 1.7 gm over a 30-minute period) , alcohol to 0.10% blood concentration (about 6 oz 86-proof liquor for a 120 lb subject), and no treatment were compared.

Poverty is disproportionately experienced among men and women. Gender plays a significant role when examining the effects and problems that poverty poses. While poverty can be experienced in differing extremes, it is women who suffer higher poverty rates in almost all societies (Christopher et al.). It is people with disabilities, recent immigrants, and racialized men and women who face additional disadvantages and “all of these groups have extremely high rates of low income and, in all of them, women are the most vulnerable” (Townson). In this paper I discuss how the ‘feminization of poverty’ has created a situation where the number of women in poverty far outnumbers that of men, and how the discourse of feminized poverty is directly affected by the processes and structures of social exclusion. I argue that gender significantly influences the experience and response to urban poverty in Canada through unequal caregiving responsibilities, the dynamics that surround pay inequality, and inadequate government programs.
