Agriculture mechanization plays very important role for horticulture crops. Role of machineries is increasing day by day. In order to compensate for labour scarcity, reduce labour drudgery and time consumption in manual or traditional sowing of potato tubers, a prototype was designed on the basis of various mechanical properties of potato tubers and the prototype was evaluated in the field. The potato tubers taken were divided into three categories i.e., round, oblong and long-oblong. Different mechanical properties of potato tubers were used for designing different lead units of the potato tubers planter which is used for direct planting of potatoes in prepared seed bed.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to carry out an investigation of the role of the wood particle size on the mechanical properties of poly lactic acid (PLA)-reinforced neem fiber biocomposite. Design/methodology/approach Composite test specimens were processed by reinforcing neem wood flour (NWF) in two different particle sizes, micro-sized NWF (MNWF) and nano-sized NWF (NNWF) separately into PLA. Composites were extruded at four different fiber loadings (10, 15, 20 and 25 Wt.%) into PLA matrix. The MNWF and NNWF had particle sizes varying from 5 to 15 µm and 10 to 15 nm, respectively. Findings Tensile strength, flexural strength and impact strength of PLA increased with fiber reinforcement for both the MNWF and NNWF cases. The NNWF-reinforced PLA composite at 20 Wt.% fiber loading proved to be the best composite that had outstanding mechanical properties in this research. Practical implications The developed composite can be used as a substitute for conventional plywood for furniture, building infrastructure and interior components for the automobile, aircraft and railway sectors. Originality/value A new biocomposite had been fabricated by using PLA and NWF and had been tested for its mechanical characteristics.

Abstract In this study, polyvinyl chloride (PVC)/rice straw (RS)/graphene oxide (GO) sustainable nanocomposite was prepared using the direct compounding method. Structural, morphological and mechanical properties of fabricated sustainable nanocomposites were compared with unfilled and RS-filled PVC compounds. Mechanical characteristics of PVC decreased with loading RS fibers. The main reason for the mechanical failure of PVC/RS composite is the incompatibility between PVC and RS fibers. GO nanosheets are used here to improve the compatibility between RS fibers and PVC macromolecules. Compared to the neat PVC, maximum strength of the RS/GO-loaded PVC composite increased up to 31%, with incorporating only 1 wt% of GO nanosheets. This enhancement in the mechanical characteristics of PVC/RS/GO nanocomposite can only be due to the role of GO nanosheets as a compatibilizer, as 1 wt% GO loading can only increase the mechanical strength of PVC compounds up to 9%. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results are used here to study the nature of these behaviors. It is suggested that the non-covalent and physical interactions between cellulose/hemicellulose portions of RS fibers and GO functional groups result in the enhancement of mechanical characteristics. Consequently, GO can be considered as a new compatibilizer for fabricating high performance PVC-based sustainable nanocomposites.

This paper is a review about the manufacture of polymer matrix composite by the filler materials, property and its preparation. Day by day the role of composite materials in industrial and household applications is increased. By using the variety of matrix, reinforcement and filler materials the polymer composite obtains from it. To improve the mechanical properties of the polymer composite, important role is played by filler materials. There is a unique property for each type of filler materials, which is altered by changing the percentage of filler materials. Filler materials important purpose is to reduce the cost of material and it increase the mechanical properties, that also use to increase surface finish and thermal property. In this paper, the elaboration of polymer materials and its uses are discussed, which held later the synthesis of polymer composite by different fillers. The filler properties, manufacture methods, polymer composite properties are discussed.

AbstractThe paper contains a set of experimental data on the influence of the KOBO extrusion (extrusion with simultaneous cyclic torsion) on mechanical properties of pure zinc and proves that they can be controlled in order to achieve the desired final values, while tensile characteristics may either show monotonic course or contain the Lüders-type effect. It has been found that the mechanical properties of the KOBO extruded zinc are not linked to the grain size, thus proving the hypothesis about the dominating role of over-equilibrial concentration of point defects (including their clusters).

Influence of highly disperse nanostructured modifiers of alumina – magnesia, partially stabilized zirconia – on the consolidation processes of composite ceramics of industrial corundum powders annealed at 1600–1700 °C, changes of its microstructure and physico-mechanical properties is investigated. It is established, that due to processes of self-diffusion of active modifiers there is a distribution of their nanograins on the borders of miсroparticles of corundum powder. In addition, nanostructured modifiers fill a pore space that causes sliding of particles under mechanical and thermal loads of material and transfers the mechanism of fragile destruction to pseudo-plastic. The entered nanostructured modifiers promote the process of lamellar zones formation throughout the material that also strengthens its mechanical properties. The correlation of composite ceramics structure and their physico-mechanical characteristics are developed.

The production of consumption goods made of elastomers is increasing day by day, producing large amounts of vulcanized/cured residues which constitute a serious socio-environmental problem. An option for companies that produce elastomeric residues is their incorporation in the formulations, by producing polymeric blends with ground waste elastomers. Therefore, this work aims to prepare polymeric blends composed of raw natural rubber (NR)/ground waste NR in different concentrations. The influence of vulcanization reversion as result of additional heating during compression molding on the mechanical properties of the blends was analyzed, and the relationship among vulcanization characteristics, dynamic-mechanical, morphology and mechanical properties of blends was also determined.

The role of the materials used for packaging is to protect innercontent from external, mostly negative, factors. Besides beingsafe, and with good mechanical properties, these materials needto align with other consumers’ needs and demands, being bothattractive and authentic, while at the same time meetingecological requirements. Gelatin-based thin films are goodcandidates for production of semi-soft cup-shaped products thatcould be used for cruciferous vegetables packaging. These filmswere prepared by a simple solvent evaporation method. Preparedfilms were characterized by swelling study and their mechanicalproperties were investigated. The optical characteristics of thefilms were determined by optical microscopy revealing that thesesystems possess attractive clear and transparent gold-yellowishappearance with a smooth surface.
