Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the   effect of different levels of nitrogen and filter mud cake applications on vegetative growth and yield on tomato cultivar "Castle Rock". Place and  Duration of Study: Field experiments were conducted during two successive winter seasons 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 at the experimental farm, Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, University of Bakht Alruda, Ed Duiem, Sudan. Methodology: Treatments included three Nitrogen levels (0, 43 and 86 kg N/ ha) and three filter mud levels (0, 2 and 4 ton/ ha). Urea (46%N) was used as source of nitrogen and applied after fifteen days from sowing. Filter mud cake was applied one month before sowing. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Results: Results showed significant differences among N treatments in tomato vegetative growth, yield and yield components in the two seasons. The 86 kg N/ ha showed the highest vegetative growth yield and yield components compared to control. The filter mud application at both rates showed significant increase in the most vegetative growth parameters, yield and yield components compared to the control in the two seasons. The combination of N and filter mud resulted in significant increase in vegetative growth and yield components, the highest values were obtained by application of 86 kg/ha combined with 4 ton filter mud /ha. Conclusion: Considering the present study it can be concluded  that the application of 86 kg/ha combined with 4 ton filter mud /ha  is the best level in terms of maximum vegetative growth, yield and yield components of Castle Rock tomato cultivar.

A field experiment was conducted for three consecutive years 2015-17 during the summer season at the experiment farm of ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur to determine the actual evapotranspiration of clusterbean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.] using mini-lysimeter by imposing different levels of irrigation based on cumulative pan evaporation (CPE) 50 mm irrigation at 100, 80, 60 and 40% of CPE. Three year averaged actual crop ET was observed 686, 554, 454 and 340 mm under 100, 80, 60 and 40 % irrigation levels, respectively. The highest crop ET was recorded under 100% followed by 80, 60 and 40 % irrigation levels. However, maximum water productivity (0.35 kg m-3) at 80% irrigation level, while the lowest (0.21 kg m-3) was observed at 40% irrigation level.The results also indicated that to achieve maximum water productivity, crop ET would need to be at least 554 mm and the crop can save 19.2% (132 mm) of water with a compromise in yield reduction by 10.4% (225 kg).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two organic wastes used as soil amendments i.e. filter mud cake (FMC) and vinasse (V) on some physical and chemical properties of sandy and loamy sandy soils. Applications of organic were incubated with the soils for a three periods of 15, 30 and 60 days at four application rates (0, 0.5, 1 and 2%). This study was carried out in a two way randomized completely block design with three replications. After incubation periods, bulk density, porosity, water retention, soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and organic matter were determined. Results showed that the values of soil bulk density and soil pH were decreased with increasing the application rates of filter cake or vinasse compared with the control in two soils. In addition, application of different filter mud cake and vinasse rates to the study soils increased soil porosity, field capacity (FC), wilting point (WP), available water (AW), electrical conductivity (EC) and organic matter contents (OM) as compared to control at different period incubation time. The data of this study concluded that, organic wastes or byproducts of sugar industries could be applied to improve some soil properties.
