Dr. Goodheart points out in his introduction that this book is intended for "the student who is interested in viruses from the basic standpoint and who wants to learn of the contributions made by virologists to the understanding of the molecular basis of genetic expression." I agree. The book is not for the general pediatrician or the pediatrician who has a subspecialty interest in a field other than infectious disease or genetics. The book would serve well the pediatrician, or any physician, interested in infectious disease, and it would serve well the student embarking upon fellowship training in laboratory investigations of infectious disease.
