IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION ON RECOUNT TEXT THROUGH QUESTION ANSWER RELATIONSHIP STRATEGY (QAR)

This research aims to improve students reading comprehension on recounttext by using Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy. This researchis a classroom action research which was conducted in three cycles. Theparticipants of this research consist of the teacher and the students in classX IIS 3 of SMAN 1 Sungai Raya. The researcher collected the data ofstudents improvement in reading comprehension by observing the datathrough reading test, observation checklist, field note and self-assessmentforms. The result showed that students problems in comprehending recounttext had been solved by using QAR strategy. Right There and Think andSearch question improved students understanding of generic structure andlanguage features of recount text. The mean score of students readingcomprehension enhanced in each cycle. In the first cycle, the students meanscore was 57.2, it increased to 68.8 in the second cycle, and 82 in the thirdcycle. In other words, Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategyimproved students reading comprehension of recount text.

This research aimed at finding out whether Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy improves students’ reading comprehension or not. The research was a classroom action research. The data collected through quantitative and qualitative approach. Quantitative data was gained from the result of pre-test and post-test from reading test. Meanwhile, qualitative data was gained from the result of observation sheets toward students’ and teachers’ activity. The instruments used by the researcher were test and observation sheet. The finding of the research showed that the strategy Listen-Read-Discuss improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-tests was 64.46 (50%), there were eight students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 75.35 (67%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 82.14 (89%), twenty-five students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).

The problem of this research is the students’ low comprehension in reading descriptive text in term of generic structure, purpose, language features and vocabulary. This research aimed to enhance student understanding by using a constructivist approach in reading descriptive text. The design of this research was a classroom action research (CAR). The samples of this research were 40 students. Based on the result of the test, it was found that students’ average score was 77. The resulting score improved from the based score that was 69.5. Furthermore from the result of observation, field note and interview, it was found the factors influencing the improvement of students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text by using a constructivist approach, they were teacher’s strategy and teacher’s media. Finally, the researcher concludes that this constructivist approach can improve the students’ reading comprehension.

The mean score of pre-test was 69.5 (35%), there were seven students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 72.2 (60%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 78.25 (85%),  seventeen students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).

This research was based on the students’ problem in reading comprehension of narrative text, especially in generic structure, purpose, language features and vocabulary. The purpose of this research was to improve reading comprehension in narrative text. The design of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research consisted of five meetings in one cycle. This research conducted on March 2018. Based on the test result, it was found that the average score of cycle was 80, 09. Furthermore, the data about factors that influence the students’ improvement in reading comprehension in narrative text were obtained by interview, observation checklist, and field note. The factors were interested of media, students’ enjoy and fun during learning process and this strategy was easily to comprehend. In conclusion, the use of FLIP strategy can improve students reading comprehension in narrative text.

Students at SMP Islam Plus Jannatul Firdaus Pekanbaru had problems in understanding the text when reading process, those were because: the students ought to construct of generic structure of descriptive text namely identification and description. The students ought to comprehend the contents of identification. The students ought to comprehend the contents of description. Then, the researcher tested based-score of reading descriptive text, the researcher found that the students’ mean score was just 68. This research aimed to improve the students’ ability in reading descriptive text by using Questioning the Author (QtA) Strategy. Thus, this research conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of one cycles. There were 15 students at Grade VII of SMP Islam Plus Jannatul Firdaus Pekanbaru as the participants of the research. To gain the data, the researcher used four instruments namely: test, observation, field note, and interview. The result of the reading test in cycle 1 (78.33) was better than the based-score. The factors influeced the changing of students’ ability in reading descriptive text were the vocabulary mastery, the condition of the class, and absolutely the strategy used by the teacher in teaching reading. In conclusion, Questioning the Author (QtA) strategy can improve the students’ ability in reading descriptive text.

The aims of this research is to improve reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students using think-pair-share technique. The researchers applying this technique is to make students actively learn in classthrough pair discussions and sharing information with their friends. The researchers used a classroom action research (CAR) method, this research has been carried out in three cycles to achieve students improvement in reading comprehension. The mean scores of students in the first cycle is 57.60, in the second cycle is 64.67, and in  the third cycle is 77.20. The mean scores of the three cycles prove that the think-pair-share technique has succeeded in improving students' reading comprehension of recount text. Keywords: Think-Pair-Share, Reading comprehension ,Recount text.

This research aimed to find the use of Patterned Partner Reading strategy improve the students reading comprehension at the SMP Muhammadiyah Limbung. The researcher used A Classroom Action Research (CAR). The researcher had conducted two cycles, where each cycle consisted of four meetings. This classroom action research was one at SMP Muhammadiyah Limbung. As subject in this research was the second class with students’ number as about 30 students consist of 7 man and 23 women. The instruments were observation sheet and test sheet. The research findings indicated that the application of patterned partner reading strategy was effective and significant in improving the students’ reading skill especially students’ reading comprehension. It was proved that the mean score of D-Test was 60.8, Cycle I 75.5 and after conducted Cycle II improved to 93 And based of mean score of students’ reading comprehension during two cycle researcher found percentage improvement that is from D-Test to Cycle I is 24.17% and from Cycle I to Cycle II is 23.17 and D-Test to Cycle II 52.96%. It means that there was the improvement of students’ reading comprehension on learning process.

<p>This research was purposed to find out how the use of structural analysis improve the reading comprehension of E class second semester students of Business English and Management Major Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in the academic year 2017-2018 and how significant does the use of structural analysis improve the reading comprehension of E class second semester students of Business English and Management Major Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in academic year 2017-2018. This research was classroom action research which was set out in two cycles, they are the first and second cycle. The subject of this research was E class second semester students of Business English and Management Concentration of Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in the academic year 2017-2018. Field note and test were used in collecting the data. The test consists of pre-test and progress-test. The data of the students' pre-test and progress-test score were analyzed by using the mean score and the data of the observation by using field note was analyzed descriptively. The finding of the research was structural analysis positively improved the reading comprehension of E class second semester students of Business English and Management Major Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in academic year 2017-2018 within two cycles, and the significance of the use of structural analysis in improving the reading comprehension of E class second semester students of Business English and Management Major Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in academic year 2017-2018 could be seen based on the test given they were 64 for the pre-test, 71.6 for the first progress-test and 83.4 for the second progress-test, and from the field note, that the students looked tired, sleepy, looked for answer from student beside them and could not finish the test by the time given by the researcher in the first cycle but have significant progress in the second cycle that the students looked more relax in doing the test and could finish the test by the time given by the researcher.<br />Keywords: reading comprehension, structural analysis, classroom action research.</p>

This research problem comes from low of students’ score of reading comprehension at English program academic year 2012/2013. It could be seen from some students failed in reading comprehension I. In order to researcher would do classroom action research by applying Think Pair Share technique to improve students reading comprehension on reading II. Purpose of this research were to describe applying Think Pair Share technique on reading comprehension of English program and knowing how can Think Pair Share improve students’ reading comprehension. In collecting data, researcher used qualitative data that consist of observation sheet, field note, and interview. In quantitative data, she used tasks and tests. In making note about what happened in this research, she helped by collaborator who teach reading comprehension too in English Department. This classroom action research consisted of two cycles; each of cycles consisted of four meeting. Three meeting did treatments, and one meeting for test. Related to finding of this research, Think Pair Share technique could improve reading comprehension. In addition, the factor that influence students’ learning by applying this technique were interesting technique, interesting topic of learning material then lecturer guiding on students in understanding learning material. The improvement of students’ learning could be proved on students’ score in each cycles. Mean score students’ reading comprehension for the first cycle was 63.8, then second cycle was 73.3. This research can be concluded that classroom action research by applying Think Pair Share technique could improve students’ reading comprehension on Reading II course at English program STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat.

This study was carried out to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery through English movie in MAN 01 of Bengkulu City in academi year 2017/2018. The subjects of this study were consisted of 30 students.The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The Clasroom Action Research design applied in this study was a collaborative classroom action research. It means that the researcher collaborated with the English teacher as an observer and collaborator. The study was carried out in three cycles. Each cycles consisted of three meetings. The data were gathered in this study through field note and test. The result of the study showed that there was improvement on students’ vocabulary mastery. Most of the students gradually gained good scores at the end of each cycles. The score of Minimum Mastery Criterion- Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) of English subject was 70. In pre-assessment, the result of the students score was failed, where the mean score of the students was 9,56 (very poor). In cycle 1 the result of the students score was still poor. In cycle 2 the result of the students score has some progresses, and in the cycle 3 the result of the students score has improve effectively than action in cycle before. Where the mean score of the students was 13,23 (good). In addition, there was a positive response from the English Teacher about implementing the action. In conclusion, English movie could improve students’ vocabulary mastery.
