The necessity of developing certified reference materials (CRM) for the composition of mineral oil with a certified value of the mass fraction of water, traceable to the State Primary Standard of units of mass fraction and mass (molar) concentration of water in solid and liquid substances and materials GET 173–2017 is revealed proceeding from the review of standardized methods for determining the quality of mineral oils and approved types of reference materials (CRMs). Mineral hydraulic oil MIL-H-5606 of CONOSTAN series manufactured by SCP SCIENCE (Canada) was chosen as the CRM material to control the accuracy of the results of water determination in mineral oils using IR spectrometers. A procedure for reproducing the mass fraction of water in a mineral oil using a standard installation based on coulometric titration according to Karl Fischer method from the composition of GET 173–2017 has been developed. The relative expanded uncertainty (at k = 2) of measurement results of the water mass fraction in mineral oil is 7.1%. The requirements to the metrological characteristics of CRM were formulated: the interval of permissible certified values, the limits of the permissible values of the absolute error at P = 0.95, and the permissible value of the absolute expanded uncertainty at k = 2. The choice of the method of packaging and conditions of CRM storage were analyzed. Taking into account the consistency of the measurement results of the water mass fraction obtained by coulometric titration according to Karl Fischer method and using a Fluid Scan infrared spectrometer manufactured by Spectro Inc., USA, the applicability of CRMs for metrological support of express IR spectrometers was demonstrated.

The article raises the problem of ensuring metrological traceability of the measurement results of indicators of quality and nutritional value for food products and food raw materials: water (moisture), nitrogen (protein, crude protein), fat, ash and carbohydrates. The problem under consideration can be solved by applying reference materials of food composition, traceable to state primary measurement standards GET 173-2017 and GET 176-2019 and primary reference measurement procedures (PRMP), for attestation of measurement procedures and accuracy checking of measurement results. The article discusses the results of the PRMP development of mass fraction of fat, ash and carbohydrates in food products and food raw materials, as well as mass fraction of crude fat (oil content) in oil crops seeds and products based on them. The paper also presents metrological characteristics of reference materials of composition of dry dairy products, grain-milk dry porridges for nutrition of babies, grain dry porridges for nutrition of babies, egg powder, freeze-dried meat products, animal feed. The results of the work allow for building a chain of metrological traceability from GET 173-2017, GET 176-2019 and PRMP to routine measurement procedures, thereby ensuring the uniformity of measurements of nutritional value of food products.

AbstractBulk silicon-germanium (SiGe) alloys and two SiGe thick films (4 and 5 μm) on Si wafers were tested with the electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) using wavelength dispersive spectrometers (WDS) for heterogeneity and composition for use as reference materials needed by the microelectronics industry. One alloy with a nominal composition of Si0.86Ge0.14 and the two thick films with nominal compositions of Si0.90Ge0.10 and Si0.75Ge0.25 on Si, evaluated for micro- and macroheterogeneity, will make good microanalysis reference materials with an overall expanded heterogeneity uncertainty of 1.1% relative or less for Ge. The bulk Ge composition in the Si0.86Ge0.14 alloy was determined to be 30.228% mass fraction Ge with an expanded uncertainty of the mean of 0.195% mass fraction. The thick films were quantified with WDS-EPMA using both the Si0.86Ge0.14 alloy and element wafers as reference materials. The Ge concentration was determined to be 22.80% mass fraction with an expanded uncertainty of the mean of 0.12% mass fraction for the Si0.90Ge0.10 wafer and 43.66% mass fraction for the Si0.75Ge0.25 wafer with an expanded uncertainty of the mean of 0.25% mass fraction. The two thick SiGe films will be issued as National Institute of Standards and Technology Reference Materials (RM 8905).

Solid lubricants composites based by Graphite, Molybdenum Disulfide, etc. are used in the forms of sintered alloys, dry films, or liquid films being dispersed in oil at various sliding contacts. Few researchers have, however, presented the papers regarding the electrical behaviors of those composites by the incorporation of such solid lubricants. Described in this paper are the measurement results of electrical characteristics of the test samples in which Graphite and MoS² are dispersed in highly pure mineral oils, referring to JIS C-2101. All of the samples in which MoS² was dispersed in mineral oil indicated high electrical resistance to the level obtainable on the straight mineral oils, even changing the dosages of MoS² from 0.01wt.% to l.0wt.%. On the other hand, dielectric breakdown voltages of the samples in which Graphite was dispersed in mineral oil were remarkably decreased from 41.2kV down to 8.4kV along with the increase of the dosage of Graphite from 0.01wt.% up to l.0wt.% to indicate low electric conductivity.

Certified reference materials (CRM) composed of propyl (11383-2019) and isopropyl (11384-2019) alcohols solutions were created for validation of measurement procedures and control of measurement errors of measurement results of mass concentrations of toxic substances (alcohol) in biological objects (urine, blood) and water. Two ways of establishing the value of the certified characteristic – mass consentration of propanol-1 or propanol-2 have been studied. The results obtained by the preparation procedure and comparison with the standard are the same within the margin of error.

IR spectroscopy investigated structural and group composition of base mineral oils isolated from the vacuum distillate by selective purification of N-methylpyrrolidone and the low temperature dewaxing in the presence of a solvent. The role of the latter was carried out by the systems acetone - toluene, acetone - methyl tertiary butyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone - toluene, acetone - toluene - modifying additive. It was shown that the chemical composition of the group of base oils and slack waxes is defined as the nature of the solvent to the dewaxing, and oils sequence of purification steps.
