The mortality rate is one of the most important criteria for assessing the health of the population. However, it is important to use analytical indicators correctly, especially when evaluating time series. The value of the “gross” mortality is closely linked with a specific weight of persons of elderly and senile ages. All international publications (WHO, IARC, territorial cancer registers) assess the dynamics of morbidity and mortality only by standardized indicators that eliminate the difference in the age composition of the compared population groups. In Russia, from 1960 to 2017, the share of people of retirement age has increased more than 2 times. The structure of mortality from malignant tumors has changed dramatically. The paper presents the dynamics of gross and standardized mortality rates from malignant tumors in Russia and in all administrative territories. Shows the real success of the Oncology service. The medium-term interval forecast until 2025 has been calculated.

Malignant tumors of the eye and its adnexa (C69) relates to rare tumors. Until 2011, this group of tumors was not included to the official cancer report in Russia.Purpose: to investigate the incidence of malignant tumors of eye and its adnexa (C69) in the population of St. Petersburg, to consider the dynamics of a complex of analytical indicators. Standard methods of statistical analysis, state reporting materials and data from the St. Petersburg Population Cancer Register were used. Malignant tumors of the eye and its adnexa (С69) were started to be officially registered only from 2011 onwards, however not in full as only Form 7 that allows to calculate morbidity was filled in. Other information could be obtained from the databases of the Population Cancer Registers (PRR), organized in the country in the late 90’s. Each year, more than 1,000 thousand (e.g.1977–2017 year) cases of malignant tumors of eye and its adnexa (С69) are detected in the whole country. In 2011, 925 cases were diagnosed. In Russia, the crude rate of malignant tumors of the eye and its adnexa (С69) has increased from 2011 to 2017 years from 0.65/100,000 in 2011 to 0.73/100,000 in 2017, respectively, +12.3 % (both sexes), standardized, eliminating the difference in the age composition of the population, remained almost unchanged –0.54 0/0000 and 0.53 0/0000. The standardized incidence rate in men of malignant tumors of eye and its adnexa (С69) in 2017 was 0.58 0/0000, women –0.49 0/0000. The state reporting for malignant tumors of eye and its adnexa (С69) does not provide for the distribution of these patients by age, stage and other parameters. State mortality statistics do not provide for the review of the C-69 heading ICD-10. All of this led us to conduct in-depth analysis of the dynamics of morbidity and mortality of eye cancer on the basis of the PRR database of SaintPetersburg. An insignificant increase in the incidence rate of the Russian population of the eye cancer, completely associated with the aging of the population, has been established. Positive increase in the observed and relative survival of patients has been also revealed.

The concept of everyday musical creativity is related to non-professional musical activities carried out in venues not intended for artistic practice. Everyday musical creativity demands technological support to provide access to musical resources by non-musicians and by musicians engaging in musical activities in domestic and public spaces. This chapter covers key aspects of the conceptual ubiquitous music framework and its methodological implications for the support of everyday creative activities. We discuss strategies to enhance music information value within the context of two sets of studies, the first set focusing on the development of an interaction metaphor and the second set dealing with the assessment of technological requirements to support creative musical activities in educational contexts. One of the implications of the methodological framework proposed by ubiquitous music studies is the expanded notion of musical information as a product of creative experience rather than as an abstract symbolic system.

An online general education platform, e-Holistic (e-HO), was developed to support digital learning. Following Burnard's (2007) adoption of Activity Theory (AT) in designing music education to galvanize learners' creativity, the authors' study extended her theoretical framework through a hypothetical model they designed. From AT, this article investigates a number of elements—musical activities (tools), e-HO (community), emotional arousal (object), and musical creativity (outcome). Through the operation of the AT system, 733 students immersed in musical activities in e-HO were able to compose music even without any musical background. The purpose of this article is to report how an e-HO online activity helps arouse students' emotions and inspire their musical creativity. The structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis indicates that all research hypotheses were supported, and the musical activities on e-HO predicted 71.6% of students' self-assessed musical creativity. Finally, the implications of the authors' findings are reported for the future development of online musical education.

In schools, band is often seen as a class where students and teachers can be creative. But is this true? Many schools use a traditional band model, which may not allow space for creative activities. This article, inspired by the Music Educators Journal March 2017 special focus on teaching for musical creativity, examines and critiques the traditional model of school band with respect to the space offered for creative music experiences and offers ideas for band directors of how to structure their programs to help foster more creative musical activities.

This is the second part of a discussion on the challenges of a second decade of ubimus research. I discuss the issues involved in supporting knowledge transfer in musical activities. I lay out and exemplify the concept of metaphor for creative action. I summarize the results of three studies employing the time tagging metaphor, configuring an effective strategy for supporting everyday musical creativity. Then I report results of a study employing the stripe meta- phor – an extension of time tagging devised for usage of a large number of resources. Twelve subjects, encompassing musicians and casual participants, realized improvisatory sessions in a non-standard setting – an audio and musical equipment store. The results indicated a promising new avenue of research targeting lay-musician interaction. The results also raised new questions regarding the strategies adopted for knowledge transfer support. The last section of the paper places these results within the context of the ongoing ubimus efforts, highlighting four issues that have emerged as viable research avenues: everyday musical creativity, lay-musician interaction, design for sustainability and design for distributed creativity.

Statistics show that in many countries of the world holidays are associated with an increase in morbidity and mortality; this is especially pronounced during the New Year and Christmas period. This article presents an estimate of the excess number of deaths in Russia during the January holidays in 2011–2019 by main classes of causes of death and by age groups. The study relies on the Rosstat dataset of 16.83 million individual non-personalized death records referring to 2011–2019. The authors of the paper estimate excess mortality for each cause and age group as the difference between actually observed mortality and the LOWESS moving average calculated for non-holiday period, extrapolated to the holidays. The calculations showed that the period of excess mortality lasted from January 1 to January 22 with a maximum on January 1. Over 22 days, excess mortality in 2011–2019 amounted to 89.0 thousand cases or 8.4% in relation to mortality on non-holidays; excess mortality on January 1 amounted to 11.4 thousand cases. In contrast to mortality from diseases of the circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems, the contribution of which to excess mortality was proportional to their prevalence on non-holidays, proportion of excess mortality from external causes almost doubled (23.6% versus 12.7 % on weekdays). January 1 saw the highest excess mortality from external causes, including that of alcohol poisoning, homicide, and suicide, in all age groups; on January 2 the highest increase was observed in mortality from diseases of the circulatory system; on January 9 and 10 — from the pathologies of the respiratory and digestive systems. January holidays in Russia are associated with significant excess mortality, primarily as a result of the abuse of strong alcoholic beverages. Informing the population about the fatal consequences of such a consumption regime and a decrease in the availability of strong alcohol, the maximum sales of which falls on December, can reduce the damage during the January holidays.
