The paper focuses on meaning formations in the structure of personality in P.E. teachers working with students with different health status. The study involved 54 P.E. teachers of two Kazan universities, aged from 25 to 67 years. The following techniques were used: Exploring Meaning Levels of Personality in Teachers by M.N. Mironova and Life Meaning Orientations Test by D.A. Leontyev. Both groups of teachers displayed high scores on the scale of “Acceptance of spiritual values of students”. The teachers show great potential to educate students and are willing to assist them in the development of their abilities. Almost 70% of the P.E. teachers demonstrated high levels of professional competence. Basing on the outcomes of the study the authors developed an advanced training programme for P.E. teachers in Innovative Technologies in Physical Education (18, 24, 36 and 72 academic hours) as well as a programme called “Selections from Physical Education” implemented at the faculty of life-long education for students of various specialist areas.

Modern education is meant to prepare comprehensively a person to live independently in specific social and cultural realities. A part of this versatility covers preparing the student to participate in physical culture in adulthood. It is a main goal of the process of physical education. To fulfil this purpose, it is necessary to equip the student with fixed beliefs about the need to care for his body and with skills to command it. These powers (axiological and technological ones) should be supported by extensive knowledge of the needs and possibilities of the body to such an extent that all activities relating to the body are rational. It is the task of physical education teacher who is supposed to introduce the student into the world of physical culture. The teacher is expected to be the student’s guide to the world of the body’s value.

The article presents the results of testing the practice-oriented technology for the formation of professional competencies of future physical education teachers. Strengthening the practical orientation of modern education is considered by researchers as a key change in the educational space. The greatest difficulty in the process of forming professional competencies is the search for mechanisms for preparing students to implement the requirements of the standard of general education for meta-subject learning results in a specific subject area – physical culture. The aim of the research was to develop and experimentally substantiate a practice-oriented technology for the formation of professional competencies necessary for the implementation of the requirements of the general education standard for students with a major in physical culture. The study was conducted for 2 years, and involved 45 third-year students majoring in physical culture. The research methods were analysis and generalization, independent pedagogical experiment, testing, observation, survey methods, and methods of mathematical statistics. The developed technology is aimed at mastering students’ professional competencies, including the skills of forming students’ universal educational actions in physical education classes. The technology is based on including students in professional tests, bridging the gap between theoretical and practical training, learning and gaining experience on the basis of a step-by-step formation of competencies. The technology includes three modules: 1) goal-setting for individual educational tasks and various didactic cycles; 2) selection and programming of physical education methods; 3) implementation of practical activities. A system for monitoring and evaluating the level of professional competence formation using interactive methods and techniques was developed for each module. During the experiment, problem areas, typical difficulties and students’ mistakes were identified and classified. As a result of the research, a significant increase in the qualitative values of the level of professional competence formation of future physical education teachers has been established. At the same time, the most significant changes in the level of readiness to solve professional tasks have been noted in the third module, in which professional tests were implemented. The results of the research show that the implementation of the practice-oriented training technology (which involves students’ inclusion in professional tests, the use of activity and interactive methods, simulation and design, technology for solving situational problems and cases) has contributed to the formation of the main professional competencies in future physical education teachers.

The important pre-experimental stage of the research is the difference among the concepts of “professional training”, “professional competence”, “professional preparedness”, “professional (personal) maturity” and “professional skill” in the projection on characteristics of the student's personality, and also the identification of psychological, sociometric and personal data of pupils who will later correct the course of the educational experiment in reference groups. The purpose is to provide theoretical and methodological prove of the current state of pedagogical skills development of future physical education teachers in the process of professional training. The sociological survey, conducted among students and teachers of Mykhailo Kotsyubynskyi Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University for the key question “Which teacher have pedagogical skills?”, made it possible to distinguish several dominants that are expressed by such concepts: knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, extraordinary, approach, personality, development and own example. However, the results of the recording stage of the experiment showed a low level of pedagogical skills development of a future physical education teacher. A number of shortcomings were identified that complicates the pedagogical skills development of a future physical education teacher, including a slight connection between theory and practice; theoretical training of students isn’t interactive; traditional methods of study at HEI; a limited number of manuals and methodological recommendations for highlighting the importance of developing the pedagogical skills of a future physical education teacher and its impact on professional activities; a small number of tasks aimed at developing this personal characteristic. This causes the need to determine and substantiate the pedagogical conditions for the pedagogical skills development of a future physical education teacher, the development of a model.
