The present study aimed to establish a theoretical model for the causal relationship between the three variables of study: self-confidence, psychological empowerment and job burnout; and then verify the validity of the proposed model by examining the direct and indirect impact of self-confidence on both psychological empowerment and job burnout; and determine the nature of the course of their relationship; and to see if self-confidence is mediator variable in the relationship of psychological empowerment and job burnout. The study sample consisted of (140) teachers from special needs teachers and used the following questionnaires: self-confidence, psychological empowerment and job burnout that prepared by the researcher. Results of the study indicate that there is a positive relationship between self-confidence and psychological empowerment, and a negative relation between self-confidence and job burnout, and a negative relationship between psychological empowerment and job burnout. Results of the regression analysis showed that self-confidence and psychological empowerment contribute to the prediction of job burnout, and the results of the study showed that self-confidence plays the role of the partial mediator variable in the relationship between psychological empowerment and job burnout among teachers of special education in Gaza governorates.

The Relationship Between School Principals’ Paternalistic Leadership and Teachers’ Job Burnout: An Action Research

The aim of this study is to identify the extent of relationship between teachers’ evaluations concerning school principals’ paternalistic leadership level and teachers’ job burnout level and also to identify the underlying reasons and sources for this relationship. 192 school principals and 192 teachers, who work in state schools incorporating special education classes in two counties of a city of Turkey, have joined in quantitative dimension of this study carried through the action research paradigm and a research design like convergent parallel design. T-test, anova and inductive content analyses have been carried through collected data by favor of two likert scale for quantitative dimension and a semi-structured questions set for qualitative dimension. As a result of analyses, it is revealed that the more administrators’ paternalistic leadership level increases the less teachers’ job burnout level decreases reasonably and qualitative findings are explicit confirmations of quantitative findings.

This study has been carried out by a research design like the mixed method consisting of quantitative and qualitative data collection along with analysis processes. Whereas the research’s quantitative size constitutes all the special education teachers in the working group, its qualitative size constitutes 25 special education teachers and 25 school principals. Because of the fact that there are 12 counties in the city the research made and consequently the process of selecting just two counties in quantitative size has been made by simple random sampling method.

In this study, we examined the relationship of special education teachers’ performance on the Recognizing Effective Special Education Teachers (RESET) Explicit Instruction observation protocol with student growth on academic measures. Special education teachers provided video-recorded observations of three instructional lessons along with data from standardized, curriculum-based academic measures at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year for the students in the instructional group. Teachers’ lessons were evaluated by external, trained raters. Data were analyzed using many-faceted Rasch measurement (MFRM), correlation, and multiple regression. Teacher performance on the overall protocol did not account for statistically significant variance in student growth beyond that of students’ beginning of the year academic performance. Teacher performance on an abbreviated protocol comprised of items that had average or higher item difficulties on the MFRM analysis accounted for an additional 4.5% of variance beyond that of beginning of the year student performance. Implications for further research are discussed.

The present study intended to determine the relationship of occupational adjustment with psychological empowerment and job burnout of nurses. This descriptive correlational study was conducted on 209 nurses working in educational hospitals. The eligible nurses were enrolled in the study through simple random sampling and filled out the demographic questionnaire, the Dawis and Lofquist Occupational Adjustment questionnaire, the Spreitzer Psychological Empowerment Instrument, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. There was a significant positive relationship between occupational adjustment and psychological empowerment (P<0.001) and a significant negative relationship between occupational adjustment and job burnout of nurses (P<0.001). Regression analysis showed that occupational adjustment explained 46% of the psychological empowerment variance and 52% of the job burnout variance. The occupational adjustment has a significant positive relationship with psychological empowerment and a significant negative relationship with job burnout among nurses. Considering that nurses experience severe burnout in their work environment, programs should be developed to improve the psychological empowerment of nursing care.

The present study was an endeavor to extend the literature of perceived organizational politics by examining its moderating role between the relationship of organizational citizenship behavior and production deviance. Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale (Mackenzie, Podsakoff, & Paine, 1999), Production Deviance sub-scale of Counterproductive Work Behavior Checklist-32 (Spector et al., 2006), and Perception of Organizational Politics Scale (Kacmar & Carlson, 1997) were used in present study. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that low levels of perceived organizational politics moderated the relationship between courtesy and production deviance by strengthening the negative relationship of these behaviors while perceived organizational politics did not act as a moderator for the relationship of civic virtue and conscientiousness with production deviance. High level of go-along-to-get-ahead as a moderator strengthened the relationship of civic virtue and conscientiousness with production deviance and its low level was found to be moderating the relationship between courtesy and production deviance. Future implications of the study were also discussed.
