In an Electrical system, Power Quality (PQ) is becoming significant to all types of consumers. With the increase of power demand from end users, maintaining the quality of power within the limitations is a major problem. In this paper, harmonic analysis in a grid connected three phase induction motor is tested according to PQ international standards which are found in the International Electro technical Commission (IEC). These mentioned standards are maintained in the transmission line and fed to the induction motor through a regenerative grid simulator. With the results obtained, execution of this fuzzy control system can be investigated through the digital simulation, which is based on MATLAB-SIMULINK package. It provides human operands to constitute a knowledge base which is used for diagnosing power quality and capable of predicting abnormal operation in Industries.

AbstractIn an electrical system, power quality (PQ) is becoming significant to all types of consumers. With the increase of power demand from end users, maintaining the quality of power within the limitations is a major problem. This paper describes power quality issues like voltage sag, voltage variations, voltage fluctuations, individual harmonics, inter-harmonics and power frequency variations in a grid connected system with a three-phase induction motor connected as a load. This system is tested in according to International Electro technical Commission (IEC) Std. 61000-4-11/4-13/4-14/4-28 which are allowed to the load through a regenerative grid simulator. Test procedures of the system equipment and the detailed analysis of the monitored and measured results are also described in this paper.

The overrun of transient power quality index caused by the large-capacity electric arc furnace (EAF) has become a prominent problem affecting the safe and stable operation of the power system. (1) In this paper, the relationship between arc furnace volt-age and current is derived based on the different stages of arc combustion, and the random variation of chaotic phenomenon of the arc voltage are simulated. Established an EAF model suitable for the study of transient power quality problems. (2) Take 50t AC EAF as an example to analyze the reactive power impact and the influence on the point of common coupling (PCC) voltage caused by the three-phase short circuit of the electrode. The results show that the experimental results are consistent with the theoretical analysis, verifying the correctness and effectiveness of the model. (3) When the three-phase short-circuit occurs, the reactive power impact is nearly 6 times that of normal operation, the short-circuit current is 2.66 times that of normal operation, and the effective value of the PCC voltage has dropped by 40.37%, which provides a theoretical basis for real-time compensation of impulsive reactive power and improvement of the transient power quality of the EAF.

The quality of energy has been defined to control harmonics caused by non-linear loads and international standards were brought to overcome the harmonic related problems. In determining the power quality, parameters like current-voltage harmonic, transient, flicker, current and voltage imbalance between phases, K factor are examined according to these international standards. The biggest disadvantage of harmonics is that they do not affect the power quality over an individual network but also affect the entire energy system primarily neighbouring facilities. Therefore, the energy system of Opium Alkaloids Plant was examined by using measurements information of current and voltage harmonics affecting the energy quality. And, it has been determined that the harmonics have a negative impact on energy quality. According to these findings, it has been proposed to install a well-designed filter for elimination of harmonics. Besides, it has been emphasised that new hardwares and devices should be chosen to support this harmonic filtering system in the future.

One of the main operation modes that characterizes power quality in distribution networks is asymmetry of three-phase voltage system. Operation of an induction motor (IM) with disturbed voltage symmetry in the supply network can not be considered as a rated one. The system of voltages applied to the stator winding of IM under these conditions contains positive- and negative-sequence components. This worsens the performance characteristics of IM essentially. In order to balance the 0.38 kV network operation and enhance the efficiency of the three-phase electric motor operation it is suggested to use a special balancing unit (BU) that minimizes the negative-sequence components of current and voltage. The operation modes of the obtained system “supply source – induction motor – balancing unit” are simulated within the MATLAB software package of applied programs, which allows one to assess the impact of low quality of power on the operating characteristics of the electric motor and the efficiency of the balancing unit to increase the “durability” of the motor under the asymmetrical power consumption.

This paper examines how a Reversing voltage multilevel inverter (RVMLI) strategy is enforced to develop multilevel inverter fulfilment. This approach has been used SPWM-PD technique to regulate the electrical inverter. It desires numerous less range of carrier signals to deliver gate pulses of switches. Increasing within the levels during this strategy aid in reduction of output voltage harmonics expeditiously and improves power quality at output of the electrical inverter. It wants a lowered quantity of total switches, which is in a position to decreases of switching losses in this process. The Three-phase reversing voltage multilevel inverter of 7- level and 9- level is accomplished for R-load and R-L load and Three Phase Induction Motor. A reversing voltage multilevel inverter of 7- level and 9- level simulation is intended and developed. Mat lab/Simulink outcome is awarded to validate the proposed scheme.

Power quality (PQ) has become a more important issue recently due to the use of more sophisticated and sensitive equipment. Medical devices, telecommunication servers and equipment, manufacturing and domestic appliances rely on a good supply of power. This paper presents the review of the power quality in power system. Power quality has always been important for customers, but with increasing applications of electronic loads and controllers sensitive to the power quality, the subject has attracted renewed interest in recent times. Power quality encompasses several aspects: harmonics, over voltage, flicker voltage sags and swells interruptions etc. A major factor contributing to the importance of the quality of power is the deregulation of the power industry. Customers will demand higher levels of power quality to ensure the proper and continued operation of sensitive equipment and processes.

Electrified railway traction transformer is a pivot that connects the electric locomotive and the public grid. Therefore, power quality problems caused by electric locomotive such as three-phase voltage imbalance, great voltage fluctuation and high harmonic content can be transmitted to the public grid via the traction transformer. To solve this problem, the solution of two sets of single-phase SVG (Static Var Generator) in back-to-back operation to solve power quality problems of the electrified railway is raised. This solution has been proved by practice effective in improving power quality of the traction transformer.
