After analyzing and discussing all of the collected data, the conclusions are written as follows: First, the inter language variations are Missing “do” auxiliary, which is appeared only in spontaneous data and missing “did” found in Recognition test. There are problems with subject-verb-agreement, “do” is replaced by “does” or vice versa. Another tendency is also the interchangeably use between “do” and “be”, and “do” and “did”. Second, it appears that L1 and L2 gives negative influences to the participants in their progress acquiring English. The complexity of English rules makes them unable to apply the correct rules for example by applying a trend to over-generalize the English rule. Third, the input from their informal environment including social media, movies, E-book, online games and English songs gives positive contribution to the participants in acquiring “do” auxiliary. English is one of the most important language in the world. It can be used as a language in any part of the world. That is why it is taught at all level of education in our country, Indonesia. Elementary school, high school and university students are all learning English now. However, learning English sentence pattern is much more difficult than learning Indonesian’s. English language learners usually get problems in understanding and using those three forms of verb which are commonly called irregular verbs as the core of tenses which are very essential in formulating tenses, have been taught at Junior and Senior High School. However, it is assumed that they are hardly used, even by those students of English Department of FBS UNIMA in Tondano. As prove it is observed that almost all students rarely speak English although they always meet at campus it is seems that they do not know how to speak English even a very simple sentence. It is assumed that their low of English competence has made them not have confidence to do their performance. Anyway, this is still an assumption that needs to be investigated. The low of competence of English knowledge might have been one of the causes that make them not able to communicate in English. Not mastering the three forms of verbs, their meanings and functions caused them enable to expressed what happened in the past present and future or they might know the structure or the pattern but do not know when to use. The research questions: Can the effect of familiar songs’ tune improve students’ understanding on irregular verbs. The study was delimited to the forms, meanings and functions of irregular verbs. The focus on this study was the fourth semester students of English department, FBS UNIMA. The tune is limited to that belongs to the songs which are well known by the students. To learn and memorize irregular verbs which have the same V2 and V3, the tune is taken from the song “Are you sleeping Brother John”. Each line was sung twice in order that the students are able to memorize easily. This is a quantitative research through pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The pretest was given to the students before treatment and the post-test was given after the treatment. This research showed that the effect of Familiar Songs’ Tune was improved students’ understanding on irregular verbs and it has made the class atmosphere become so lively and the students enjoy learning English by singing.
Oral skills are important components of language competence. To have good and acceptable listening and speaking, one must have good pronunciation, which encompasses segmental and suprasegmental features. Despite extensive studies on the role of segmental features and related issues in listening and speaking, there is paucity of research on the role of suprasegmental features in the same domain. Conducting studies which aim at shedding light on the issues related to learning suprasegmental features can help language teachers and learners in the process of teaching/learning English as a foreign language. To this end, this study was designed to investigate the relationship among brain hemispheric dominance, gender, attitudes towards L1 and L2, and learning suprasegmental features in Iranian EFL learners. First, 200 Intermediate EFL learners were selected from different English language teaching institutes in Hamedan and Isfahan, two provinces in Iran, as the sample. Prior to the main stage of the study, Oxford Placement Test (OPT) was used to homogenize the proficiency level of all the participants. Then, the participants were asked to complete the Edinburgh Handedness Questionnaire to determine their dominant hemisphere. They were also required to answer two questionnaires regarding their attitudes towards L1 and L2. Finally, the participants took suprasegmental features test. The results of the independent samples t-tests indicated left-brained language learners’ superiority in observing and learning suprasegmental features. It was also found that females are better than males in producing suprasegmental features. Furthermore, the results of Pearson Product Moment Correlations indicated that there is significant relationship between attitude towards L2 and learning suprasegmental features. However, no significant relationship was found between attitude towards L1 and learning English suprasegmental features. The findings of this study can provide English learners, teachers and developers of instructional materials with some theoretical and pedagogical implications which are discussed in the paper.

Working with English learners for many years, gives you the opportunity to encounter linguistic obstacles that they face while learning English language as a foreign language. Additionally, teaching for 13 years and observing the learning process, it enables you to recognize the students’ needs and at the same time, detect linguistic mistakes that they make, while practicing the target language. During my experience as a teacher, in terms of teaching and learning verbs in general and its grammatical categories in specific, it is noticed that Albanian learners find it relatively difficult the correct use of verbs in context and even more confusing the equivalent use of verbs in Albanian. Since verbs present an important part of speech, this study aims to investigate several differences and similarities between grammatical categories of verbs in English and Albanian. As a result, the Albanian learners of English language will be able to identify some of the major differences and similarities between the grammatical categories of verbs in English and Albanian; overcome the usual mistakes; gain the necessary knowledge regarding verbs and use them properly in English and Albanian.

Young immigrant youth often live their lives across borders, either by physically crossing them for return visits and/or by metaphorically crossing them through social media and cultural identification. The authors argue these students are better understood as transnational, shifting the focus for educators away from imagining their immigrant students on a straight, one-way path to assimilation in the U.S. to understanding these youths’ abilities to cross borders. Specifically, they call for a redesignation of English Language Learners (ELLs) as Transnational English Learners (TELs). Highlighting examples of educators’ successful border-crossing work, the authors call for educators to cross borders as well in their curriculum and relationships with transnational youth.

Applying technology in learning English language is indispensable in the period of industry 4.0 and global integration. However, what technological techniques should be applied in teaching and learning process is the most serious concern. Evidence shows that different technological applications may lead to various learning outcomes, detrimental effects, even spoiling learning interest or motivations. Therefore, this paper is aimed not only to explore the multiple dimensions of recoding video clips in group (RVCIG) in learning English speaking skill but also illustrate how this activity (RVCIG) influences on learners’ English speaking improvement. Apparently, these explorations and illustrations help to consider whether this RVCIG is widely used in teaching English speaking process or not. To do that, a quantitative research method with the tool of semi - structure interview is used to collect various information, mixed feedbacks or motivations from 2 groups of students fully participating in recording three video clips in group within course. Additionally, a questionnaire survey is also sent to 33 English learners for exploring both commendable and detrimental influences of this RVCIG on English speaking development. The findings indicate that RVCIG makes learners have various opposite experiences in language competence, confident expression, and communication, as well as cope with unavoidable challenges of time consuming, technological problems, and group member’ disagreements. Whatever advantages or disadvantages of this RVCIG activity has, learners also express their interest and expectation of recording video clips in group for purposes of English speaking improvement, mutual engagement, collaborative learning and building friendship.
