An experiment was conducted at the research field of Department of Agronomy, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during June to December 2012 to investigate the effect of age of tiller seedlings, number of tiller seedlings hill-1 and application of urea super granules (USG) on the yield and yield contributing characters of transplant Aman rice (cv. BRRI dhan52). The experiment consisted of two ages of tiller seedlings viz. 25 and 35-days old, three levels of tiller seedlings hill-1 viz. 1, 3 and 5 seedlings hill-1 and three levels of USG viz. 0, 1.8 (55 kg N ha-1) and 2.7g USG (80 kg N ha-1) four hill-1 in every alternate row. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (Factorial) with three replications. The highest plant height, number of effective tillers hill-1, number of total tillers hill-1, number of total spikelets panicle-1, number of grains panicle-1, grain yield and harvest index were found in 1.8 g USG applied @ one granule 4-hill-1. The highest number of sterile spikelets panicle-1 was found in control treatment and the lowest in 1.8 g USG. The highest number of effective tillers hill-1, number of total spikelets panicle-1 and grain yield ha-1 was found when 5 tiller seedlings were transplanted hill-1 combined with 1.8 g USG. Application of urea super granules 1.8 g (55 kg N ha-1) at 10 days after transplanting @ one granule 4-hill-1 in every alternate row with 25 day old tiller seedlings using 5 tiller seedlings hill-1 was found beneficial for grain yield of transplant Aman rice. An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from April to August 2011 to find out the effect of spacing and number of seedlings hill-1 on the performance of Aus rice cv. NERICA 1. Four spacing viz. 25 cm × l5 cm, 20 cm × l5 cm. 20 cm × 10 cm and 15 cm × 10 cm and four number of seedlings hill-1 viz. 2, 3, 4 and 5 were included in the experiment. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The highest number of total tillers m-2, number of effective tillers m-2, number of grains panicle-1, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield and harvest index were obtained from 20 cm × 10 cm spacing. Plant height and 1000- grain weight were not significantly affected by spacing. Number of seedlings hill-1 exerts a significant effect on plant height. The highest value of total tillers m-2, number of effective tillers m-2, total grains panicle-1, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield and harvest index were obtained from five seedlings hill-1. The interaction between spacing and number of seedlings hill-1 significantly influenced yield and plant characters. The highest number of effective tillers m-2, grains panicle-1, grain yield, straw yield and biological yield were recorded from the interaction between 20 cm × 10 cm and five seedlings hill-1. The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh to investigate the effect of age of tiller seedlings, number of tiller seedlings hill-1 and application of urea super granules (USG) on the growth parameters of transplant aman rice cv. BRRI dhan52. The experiment comprised two ages of tiller seedlings viz. 25 and 35 days old, three levels of tiller seedling hill-1 viz.1, 3 and 5 seedlings hill-1 and three USG levels viz. 0, 1.8 and 2.7g USG. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The highest and lowest plant height was found by transplanting 25-day and 35-day old tiller seedlings at all dates of observations. By transplanting 35-day old tiller seedlings total dry matter hill-1 was found highest at 15DAT and 45 DAT. Total dry matter hill-1 was the highest in 5 tiller seedlings hill-1 and it was in lowest in 1 tiller seedling hill-1. Plant height was the highest in 5 tiller seedlings hill-1 which was as good as that of 3 tiller seedlings hill-1 and the lowest one was found in 1 tiller seedling hill-1 at 15 DAT. The tallest plant and highest total dry matter hill-1 were observed in 1.8g USG and the lowest one was observed in control treatment. The reduction in herbicide use is one of the greatest interests for modern agriculture and several alternatives are being investigated with this objective, including the adoption of cultivars that suppress weeds. The objective of this study was to verify if maize cultivars develop differently, in competition with weeds, to produce green ears and grain. Randomized complete block design was used, with split-plots and five replications. Cultivars DKB 390, DKB 466, DKB 350, AG 7000, AG 7575 and Master, were evaluated in the plots, without weeding and two weedings (at 22 and 41 days after sowing) in sub plots. Twenty-one species were identified in the experimental area, the most frequent being Gramineae (Poaceae), Euphorbiaceae, Leguminosae (Fabaceae) and Convolvulaceae species. There was no difference in the dry biomass above-ground part of the weeds in the plots of the evaluated cultivars. The cultivars behaved similarly in treatments with or without hoeing, except for plant height and ear height evaluations. Without hoeing, plant height increased in cultivar DKB 390, while plant height and ear height decreased in cultivar AG 7575. In the other cultivars, these traits did not change under weed control. The presence of weeds decreased the values of all traits employed to assess green corn yield, with the exception of the total number of green ears and grain yield.

A field experiment was conducted during  autumn season 2018 at Al Salam district, Maysan governorate. The aim was to evaluate some growth properties and grain yield of  three varieties of cowpea, Vigna sinensis L. (Local, Patton Boa and Atta E) grown under different levels of potassium sulphate  (0, 43, 86 and 129 kg h-1). The  experimental  design was applied according to the random complete block design in a split arrangement (Split Plots in RCBD). In on hand, the results showed a significant differences between the varieties. The local variety significantly gave highest plant length , leaf area, pods number, seeds number pod-1 and grain yield and which were 60.75cm, 2936.81cm2, 39.60 pod. plant-1, 7.69 seed pod-1, 99.93 g and 4.16 t. h-1 respectively. While the varieties Baton Boa gave highest weight of 100 seeds and gave 37.58 g. In other hand, as compare to the control, the addition of potassium up to 129 kg. h-1 lead to significant increase in plant length, leaf area, pods plant-1, seeds number pod-1 and grain yield plant-1 and total grain yield which were 53.33 cm, 3455.91 cm2, 51.61 pod. plant-1, 8.76 seed. pod-1, 125.93 g. and 5.25 T.h-1 respectively. Whereas, the control treatment (K0) gave the highest weight of 100 seeds (45.11 g). The Interaction between varieties and potassium  had a significant effect on almost  growth and yield characteristics.

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh from July to December 2004 to evaluate the effect of hill spacing on the performance of BRRI dhan40 and BRRI dhan41 as Transplant aman crop. The experiment consisted of five hill spacings viz., 5cm. 10cm, 15 cm, and 25 cm where row to row spacing of 25 cm was kept constant for all treatments. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with four replications. The 25 cm x 5 cm hill spacing produced the tallest plant, highest total number of tillers/hill, bearing tillers/hill lowest number of non-hearing tillers/hill, grain yield and harvest index, while 25 cm x 5 cm hill spacing produced the highest number of sterile spikelets/panicle, straw yield and biological yield. BRRI dhan41 produced higher grain yield (4.7 t/ha) which was the contribution of higher number of grains/panicle and heavier grain weight. The effect of different rates of boron application on wheat cv. Bijoy was studied through a field experiment at    Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) farm, Mymensingh during 2009-10 rabi season. The BAU farm belongs to    Old Brahmaputra Floodplain agroecological zone (AEZ 9). Texturally the soil was silt loam, with 7.2 pH, 0.81%    organic matter and 0.15 mg kg-1 available boron content. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete    block design with five boron rates and four replications. Boron rates were 0, 0.75, 1.5, 2.25 and 3.0 kg ha-1, with boric    acid as a source. Every plot received blanket doses of 115 kg N, 25 kg P, 75 kg K and 15 kg S ha-1 from urea, TSP,    MoP and gypsum, respectively. Treatment receiving B @ 2.25 kg ha-1 produced the highest grain yield (4.22 t ha-1) which was statistically identical with that obtained with 1.75 kg B ha-1. However, the crop response curve showed    1.90 kg ha-1 to be the optimum boron rate for the maximization of wheat yield. The lowest grain yield (2.84 t/ha) was    recorded with control treatment. There was a positive relationship between grain yield and number of grains spike-1.   Boron had significant influence on N, P, K, S and B uptake by the crop which, in deed, was more influenced by crop    yield and less by nutrient concentration, except N and B uptake where concentration had more influence than yield.   DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jbau.v9i2.10987   J. The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh during the period from July to October 2016 to study the effect of age of seedling on the yield and yield contributing characters of short duration Aman rice cultivars. The study consisted two factor A: Variety- three- i)    BINA dhan7 (V1),   (ii) BRRI dhan56 (V2) and (iii)  BRRI dhan62 (V3); and factor B: Number of seedlings hill-1- (i)   Single seedling  hill-1 (S1), (ii)  Two seedlings  hill-1 (S2) and (iii) Three seedlings  hill-1 (S3). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The highest grain yield was obtained from the cultivar BINA dhan7 which was statistically identical with BRRI dhan56 and this was the consequences of higher number of total and effective tillers hiil-1 and highest number of grains panicle-1. Grain yield was not significantly affected by the number of seedlings hill-1 but numerically the highest grain yield was recorded from single seedling hill-1. From the interaction it is observed that grain yield was not significantly affected by the interaction of cultivar and number of seedlings hill-1. But numerically the highest grain yield was recorded from the interaction of BRRI dhan56 × single seedling hill-1. From the economic analysis it is observed that the highest BCR (1.64) was recorded from single seedling hill-1 in BRRI dhan56 which was close to single seedling hill-1 in BINA dhan7 and the lowest BCR (103) was obtained from two seedlings hill-1 in BRRI dhan62. From the results of the study it may be concluded that BRRI dhan56 with single seedling hill-1 might be cultivated in AEZ-9 for obtaining higher yield and higher economic return in Aman season.Progressive Agriculture 28 (4): 279-286, 2017

The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field laboratory, Department of Agronomy and Agricultural Extension, University of Rajshahi to study the yield and yield components of wheat as affected by phosphorus fertilization. The experiment consisted of two factors i.e. (i) three wheat varieties viz., Shatabdi, Bijoy and Prodip and (ii) five levels of phosphorus viz. 0, 30, 60, 90, 120 kg P2O5 ha-1. A RCBD design was used for the experiment with three replications. The effect of variety was significant on all the yield components and yield except plant height. Prodip gave the highest grain yield (3.67 t ha-1) followed by Bijoy (3.45 t ha-1) and Shatabdi (3.28 t ha-1). Yield and yield components of wheat were significantly influenced by different levels of phosphorus. The highest grain yield (4.47 t ha-1) was recorded from P4 (120 kg P2O5 ha-1) and the lowest one (2.43 t ha-1) from the control treatment. The highest grain yield (4.80 t ha-1) was obtained from Prodip at 120 kg P2O5 ha-1 and the lowest one (2.3 t ha-1) was found in Shatabdi at control treatment. The results suggest that the combination of V3P4 (Prodip with 120 kg P2O5 ha-1) is the best for obtaining higher yield of wheat.

To evaluate the effect of nitrogen, zinc and iron as soil application on yield and yield component of wheat, the present study was conducted at Agricultural and Experimental Research Station at Giza, Faculty of Agriculture Cairo University, Egypt during 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons. The experimental design was split-plot in randomized complete block design with three replications. Results showed that positive significant effect on plant height, number of spike/m2, spike length; number of grain per spike, grain yield per unit area in both seasons and grain protein content in one season were achieved by application of N and the micronutrients. Whoever, the highest significant in the above mentioned characters was obtained either by application the highest N levels (100kg N /fed.) or in addition to mixture of Zn and Fe. The interaction between the studied factors had significant effect on plant height and grain yield in both seasons as well as on grain protein content in the second season, where the highest values of these parameters were recorded by application of 100kg N/fed., Zn and Fe in mixture.

An experiment was conducted at the Jute Research Regional Station, Kishoreganj of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, during 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 to find out the effects of preceding crops, viz. wheat, potato, lentil, and fallow on yield of succeeding jute crops. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The results revealed that plant height and base diameter of CVL-1 and O-9897 were not affected significantly by the preceding rabi crops. The fibre and stick yields of both the jute varieties were affected significantly. The highest fibre yield of CVL-1 (3.90 t ha-1 and 3.77 t ha-1) and O-9897 (3.51 t ha-1 and 2.93 t ha-1) was recorded when those were grown after potato and the yield was the lowest when grown after wheat and fallow land in both the years. There was no sharp variation in harvest index, which showed inconsistent between the years.Bangladesh Agron. J. 2014, 17(2): 15-19
