Cadmium oxide (CdO) thin films have been deposited by a locally developed spray pyrolysis method onto glass substrate at 473K. The optical and electrical properties of the as-deposited and annealed films are studied in details. The surface morphology of the samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The SEM micrograph of as-deposited film shows uniform deposition over the substrate well. The optical absorption coefficient (α) of the CdO films was determined from transmittance spectra in the range of wavelength 450 - 650nm. For different thicknesses (130nm ~ 380nm) of as-deposited films, the direct band gap is found in the range of 2.40 ~2.51 eV and indirect band gap in the range of 1.97 ~ 2.20 eV. Resistivity (ρ) of CdO thin film was measured in the temperature range of 303 to 553K. The resistivity of the films of different thickness initially increases with increase in temperature and reaches a maximum at 430K and then decreases with further increase of temperature. The resistivity of the film exhibits metallic behaviour up to 430 K and above that the film behaves like a semiconductor. Activation energy (ΔE) in the semiconductor region is found in the range from 0.049 to 0.075 eV for films of thickness ranging from 160 - 285 nm. In this work, thin films of undoped and Ag-doped CdO with (1and 3) wt.% were prepared by using spray pyrolysis method on glass substrate at of 350ºC with films thicknesses of (160-190) nm using spraying rate and pyrolysis time is 5 ml/min an 5sec respectively. The X-ray diffraction investigated the structural types of the CdO thin films after and before doped by Ag, XRD analysis showed that CdO:Ag films are highly polycrystalline and exhibit cubic crystal structure with (111) preferred orientation. However, the peak for all CdO:Ag films became more intense with a slight variation. The optical properties measure by ultra violet spectra, the optical study shows the spectral transmission and the optical energy band gap increases from 64.77% and 2.50 eV to 71.11% and 2.70 eV respectively depending upon the Ag content in the films, in contrary with the absorbance that increases with the decrease in wavelength and decreases with the increasing Ag doping concentration.

In this research, the irradiation influence on optical properties of Cadmium oxide thin films deposited on glass substrate via spray pyrolysis method were studied. The thickness of the prepared thin films were 400 and 500 nm respectively. The flow rate was 10 ml/min and the substrate temperature was held constant at 450°C. The thin films are irradiated with gamma ray from Cs-137 of energy 0.662 MeV, the irradiation time is two weeks. The optical absorption and transmission was studied by using UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The absorption coefficients increase after irradiation, while the optical band gaps for 400 nm (CdO) decrease after irradiation from 2.32 to 2.27 eV and for 500 nm (CdO) from 2.30 to 2.12 eV.
