The study basically aims at uncovering the reading attitudes of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students of the Bangladeshi English medium private universities. It has been observed that the private university students, coming from Bengali-medium colleges, read very little in English and consequently they hardly grow up as better readers. The study has used both quantitative and qualitative methods. For collecting quantitative data, a structured questionnaire was administered among the sampling respondents, 120 BBA students from six private universities located in Dhaka city, selected using simple random sampling procedure. On the contrary, for gathering qualitative data, the researcher depended on a number of classroom observations, focus group discussions (FGDs) that took place among 20 different BBA students divided into two groups, and teacher interviews (10 teachers). It is revealed from the study that the students have mixed attitudes towards reading. In some cases, they have been found enthusiastic readers who read due to their passion for reading or for having pleasure out of reading. However, in many cases, they have affirmed that they become anxious and bored of extensive reading. Besides, they mainly read for passing the examinations or obtaining good grades. Background: Intensive use of social media threat to physical health, visual disorders is one them. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted to identify the visual hazards of social media users among students of public and private universities in Dhaka city. Materials and methods: A pretested, semi-structured standard questionnaire and randomized sampling technique was used to collect the data, the number of calculated sample size was 726. Results: Study revealed that mean age of the respondents of public university were 21.551.93 years and private university were 21.141.62 years. It was found that 28.10%, 9.90%, 17.90%, 10.70%, 6.60%, 22.60%, 8.50%, 0.60%, 18.70%, 2.80%, 1.90%, 2.80% and 0.60% of the respondents of public university complained headache, dry eye syndrome, eye strain, burning, itching, tearing eyes, irritated eyes, squinting, blurry vision, double vision, temporary change in color vision, trouble seeing at night, distorted vision respectively and that of the students of private university were 36.60%, 9.60%, 22.00%, 12.70%, 11.80%, 31.70%, 14.90%, 5.50%, 15.70%, 6.90%, 6.30%, 6.10% and 0.80% respectively. Social media disorders influence significantly on eyestrain of the students of both public and private universities. Conclusion: Social media had different types of visual hazards among the students of both public and private universities in Dhaka city. The study assessed textile innovations delivery of extension services programme in Nigeria, with a view to establishing its proficiency for rural economic empowerment and development.  Explicitly, it examined the project techno-dynamics factor; analysed its economic costume and visibility variables.  For this study 10 states and 40 blocks were purposively selected and 320 groups of villages within the selected blocks were visited. Stratified and simple random sampling procedure was used in selecting 15% of respondents from each group of villages, making 3,251 across the nation.   While structured and pre-tested questionnaire was used in collecting quantitative data, individual interview schedule and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) were applied in eliciting qualitative information from respondents.  Data collected was summarized with the use of descriptive statistics viz; percentages, means and, frequency counts. Factor analysis was applied in isolating critical factors having relationship with proefficiency. The study isolated three important factors that were crucial to proficiency.  These were textile innovations socio- technical (25.09%), accessibility (23.74%) and socio-economic (20.25%). It was concluded that the introduced textile innovations was proficient for rural economic empowerment and development. For proficiency, the finding suggests that inputs must be made available at the various extension centers, and on-farm textile producers must have direct access to market board without interference of product-coordinators.   Received: 2 May 2021 / Accepted: 15 June 2021 / Published: 8 July 2021

AbstractBackgroundAesthetic alterations in the face can be self-perceived and can affect quality of life in young adults.ObjectiveTo assess the impact of malocclusion on self- perceived oro-facial behaviour among young adults.MethodsA Cross sectional study was conducted among 638 young adults (aged 18–21 years) of Hyderabad city. One college from each of the five zones of the Hyderabad city (five colleges) were selected by simple random sampling procedure. A 21-item Oro-facial investment scale (OFIS) questionnaire assessing self-perceived oral health knowledge, attitude, practice and Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) assessing the severity of malocclusion was used. Data were analysed with standard statistical software (SPSS, Statistical package for the social sciences, version 20.0). p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.ResultsMales had higher mean scores for knowledge (2.90 ± 0.49) than females (2.73 ± 0.82) and was statistically significant (p = 0.002*). No statistically significant gender differences were found in relation to attitude and practice. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that there was a significant difference in all the three scores (knowledge, attitude, practice) with respect to age, with significantly high score for knowledge and practice among 18 year old subjects (p = 0.0001*; p = 0.0003* respectively) and attitude among 21 year old subjects (p = 0.0049*). No statistically significant age, gender differences were found in relation to DAI scores. Upon correlation, DAI significantly and positively correlated with knowledge (p = 0.03*) and attitude (p = 0.0001*).ConclusionThis study has shown significant impact of malocclusion on the self-perceived oro-facial behaviour.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the causal links between public and private university environments and the entrepreneurial intention (EI) of students. Design/methodology/approach The impact of different university environments on the students’ EI was checked using a model adapted from Krueger et al. (2000). The study comprised a sample of students enrolled in business administration from three public and three private universities at first semester (freshmen) and at the last two semesters (senior) in Brazil. The model was measured through various questions and later assessed by principal component analysis to build constructs. Via t-test and path analysis the EI and the antecedents were subjected to a comparative analysis to test the equality of the models across the four categories emerged. Findings The two main types of Brazilian university environments (public and private) do not present significant differences in the way they influence EI and its antecedents. Both the tests of means and the tests of measurement of the structural relations between constructs confirm this finding with only a few exceptions. The result of this study is opposed to other studies carried out in Brazil, by showing that the public university environment is not worse for the entrepreneurship than the private. The environmental effects are mostly equal and they as a whole are not conducive to the development of EI. Research limitations/implications The study comprises business students only, and enrolled on regular universities. It is worth highlighting that evidence was brought to the debate for a group of universities in Brazil. Replicating the study with students from other areas and other universities, as well as students in Master’s and Doctorate programs could enrich the analyses. Practical implications This study provides insight into entrepreneurship education, as to which the university environment is conducive to the entrepreneurship. It brings insights for the development of entrepreneurial universities. Originality/value This study contributes to understanding the differences between the public and private universities environment regarding students’ EI.

Vocabulary mastery is a key aspect of foreign language leaning. Various methods can be used to improve vocabulary mastery. This present study was conducted to find out what strategies the learners of the Extensive Reading Course used in mastering the vocabulary in an English Language Education Program (ELEP) at a private university in Central Java, Indonesia, based on the Schmitt (2000) theory. The strategies discussed in this study are the determination, metacognitive, cognitive, memory and social strategy. In this study, a qualitative research design was applied to collect the data using questionnaire with open-ended questions. There were fifty-six participants of three Extensive Reading classes for this study. The result of the study showed that the determination strategy was the most preferable. Most of the participants used that strategy to enrich their vocabulary, while the social strategy was the least used. It was found that most of ER learners used determination strategies to mastery vocabulary.

This study aims to determine the effect of job satisfaction and motivation on the lecturer performance at private universities in Makassar. The research conducted on the lecturer of faculty of economics at three private universities in Makassar South Sulawesi by using mail survey and sending 150 questionnaires to the respondents. Sampling technique used in this study is random sampling. Data were collected at 101 and analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The analysis result showed that job satisfaction gives positive impact and significant on the performance of private university lecturers in Makassar, and motivation gives positive impact and significant on the performance of private university lecturers in Makassar. The results of multiple regression analysis showed motivation and job satisfaction simultaneously have positive and significant impact on the performance of private university lecturers in Makassar.

This study's purpose was to establish the influence of socioeconomic status on risky sexual behaviours on risky sexual behaviours among undergraduate students of main campuses in Nakuru County. Social Learning Theory by Albert Bandura and Person-Centred Theory by Carl Rogers guided the study. The study was carried out among 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th-year undergraduate students from main campuses in Nakuru County. The study adopted a correlational research design. The target population was 18570 undergraduate students. The accessible population was 8456 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th-year undergraduate students whose sample was 367. Respondents were selected by applying the simple random sampling technique. The study included a sample of 10 peer counsellors and 2 student counsellors from the Egerton University and Kabarak University main campuses who were selected through purposive sampling. Data were obtained using a questionnaire for undergraduate students, focus group discussions guide for peer counsellors and interview schedule for student counsellors. Validation of research instruments was done through peer and expert review and also through pilot testing, which was done in Mount Kenya University (MKU) - Nakuru Campus. Quantitative data was analysed by both inferential and descriptive statistics using SPSS Version 25, whereas the qualitative data was analysed thematically. The analysed data was presented in tables, graphs, and narratives. The findings indicated that the majority of the respondents were of the view that socioeconomic status influences risky sexual behaviours among undergraduate students.

Bangladesh is principally an agricultural based country dominated by crop production. In Bangladesh onion mostly use for species which gives aroma taste and flavor to the food materials. The present study was designed to measure supply chain analysis of onion markets and to estimate the value addition of onion in selected areas of two upazilas of Pabna district. Primary data were collected from the onion growing area of Sujanagar upazila and Santhiya upazila under Pabna district. Twenty farmers and fifty traders were selected through purposive sampling and simple random sampling procedure. Simple descriptive methods were used to analyze the data. The major findings of the study reveal that onion production is profitable. In the production and marketing system of Onion, many supply chain actors were involved such as Faria, Bepari, Arathdar, wholesaler and retailer. Marketing of onion produced in Sujanagar and Santhiya upazila was moved from the hands of producers to the hands of consumers through six separate chains. The highest sales price per 40Kg of onion received by retailer was Tk. 1625 and the lowest sales price received by farmer was Tk. 1190. In value chain, highest value (29.14 percent) was added by farmer and lowest value (3.97 percent) was added by Arathder of the total value addition. Farmers had the highest proportion of net marketing margin which was about 42.51 percent of total net marketing margin. Retailers had the second highest portion of net marketing margin of onion. On the contrary, Arathdar had the lowest net marketing margin of onion which was only 3.82 percent of total net marketing margin of onion. The study also identified some problems and constraints faced by the onion farmers and trader suggested some recommendations to improve the present production and marketing situation so that per hectare yield of onion and marketing facilities would possibly be increased.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the scope of application of systems thinking and cybernetics for change management by presenting the case of a private university of Pakistan. Six Sigma has been tested as a possible solution to the problems faced by the institution. Design/methodology/approach – Stafford Beer’s approach of running the system on trial at five levels has been used to estimate system’s efficacy. The system analysis helped to identify lapses in the system as well as the leverage points for quality improvement. Six Sigma DMAIC tools have been applied for the possible improvement in the process of course management in a private university of Pakistan. Findings – Private universities in Pakistan are operated as a business and the business owners are busy to keep their system stable unmindful for the protocol for sustainability. What will make the system viable and sustainable is yet to be learnt by the private universities of Pakistan. There exists a sharp divide between bottom line approach of businessmen and the academia’s confidence in the quality improvement. However, it has been learned that the organizational development is the job of every academic manager, and managing the process through creative innovation is the only solution. Originality/value – The case study is a unique contribution in theory and principles of quality management for checking the application of Six Sigma and lean techniques for organizational development of a private university.
