New coherent radiation sources in the hard X-ray and Terahertz regimes promise exciting new developments in science, as previously dark areas of the spectrum are brightly illuminated. Ultra-short, ultra-bright radiation packets can probe the structure of matter, and image chemical and biological processes well beyond the present state of the art. Production of this coherent radiation, however, places an unprecedented challenge on the production and acceleration of high-quality electron beams. To deliver a nano-Coulomb of charge with an emittance of less than one micron, while transporting the beam through long sections of acceleration and compression, is the prerequisite for unlocking the gates of this promising new science. Using a low-energy electron storage ring, we deliberately enhance the space charge force while slowing down the time-scale to easily measurable levels so as to maximize our understanding of the particle dynamics necessary for producing bright beams.

Thermal expansion measurements have been performed on a uvarovite rich garnet sample for the first time and compared with the expansion data on grossular and pyrope-rich garnets reported in the literature. A semiclassical model has been used to analyze the data and to obtain various thermodynamic parameters. Using these parameters, the lattice specific heat and the corresponding entropy have also been calculated.

A cylindrical asymmetry about the direction of motion of 5Li has been seen in the breakup of the ground state of this nucleus observed as an intermediate state in the reaction 6Li(3He, pα)4He. Measurements were made at bombarding energies of 1.00, 1.25, and 1.50 MeV with isotopically enriched LiF targets using a two-dimensional analysis technique. We explain both the rough magnitude of the asymmetry and its qualitative energy dependence in terms of a simple semiclassical model. In this model the origin of the asymmetry is associated with the short life of the 5Li intermediate state and with the memory retained by the proton during this short life of its "localization" at the time of formation of 5Li.

Two new imidazole ionic liquid salts, 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([AMIM]Cl) and 1-allyl-3-methy-imidazolium hydrogen sulfate ([EMIM]HSO4), were synthesized with direct synthesis and two-step synthesis method, using a viscosity meter, PH meter, conductivity meter, densitometer, infrared spectrometer determined its chemical structure and properties. The results show that two ionic liquids in the range is slightly different, the trend is roughly same. As the temperature increases, the viscosity decreases, PH gradually increased, the density decreases slightly, can be regarded as constant, the conductivity gradually increased. Ionic liquids of the two IR spectra analysis show its structure and synthetic route consistent with the structure of matter.
