This research was conducted with the aim of: (i) evaluating the trainees’s satisfaction on trainers and training performance; (ii) evaluating  the implementation of training results in their work units; (iii) evaluating the impact of training on trainee’s and/or unit performance; and (iv) identifying the constraints that hinders the training results to support the improvement of alumni competency and performance. Kirkpatrick's Evaluation Model was employed, and data was collected using questionnaires and interviews as well as descriptive statistical analysis techniques. The findings reveals that; (i) the overall aspects of training implementation were considered ‘very good’ by the participants, even though did not yet meet their level of expectation. The teacher however, indicates that the overall aspects of training have been able to meet the expectations of participants; (ii) the Effective Negotiation Skills training improved alumni competency after returning to work. This can be seen from the average value of the total perceptions of alumni respondents related to changes in competence after participating in training as much as 8.34 (on a scale of 1-10). Paired sample t-test analysis also showed a significant influence indicating improvement of alumni competency, especially in negotiating with the stakeholders; (iii) the results of training significantly have positive impacts on trainee’s and/or unit performance. This can be seen from the average total of alumni perception on impacts of 4.12 (high) in scale of 1-5 where 1 is very low and 5 is very high) scale. Majority of alumni feel that its positive impacts indicated by increasing of negotiation capability to stakeholders; (iv) The biggest obstacle experienced by alumni in applying knowledge obtained from the training in the workplace is different language, culture, and character, which posed  difficulty for them to negotiate and communicate work unit tasks and target performance.

This investigation examined the impact of a comprehensive psychological skills training for tennis (PSTT) program on collegiate tennis players. PSTT players were exposed to three psychological skills (goal setting, imagery, and arousal regulation) and then given the opportunity to develop individualized PSTT programs. Program effectiveness was evaluated through (a) case study analyses, (b) intrateam analyses comparing high- and low-commitment PSTT players, and (c) interteam analyses comparing PSTT (n = 12) and non-PSTT (n = 12) players. Results indicated that the PSTT program was successful, with case studies providing strong support for the effectiveness of individual PSTT programs. Additionally, intrateam results revealed that all PSTT players felt their PSTT program helped their tennis games, although high- and low-commitment players differed significantly on only 2 of 15 psychological and performance variables. As expected, interteam results demonstrated significant differences on only 2 of 15 variables, with PSTT players displaying higher state self-confidence and committing fewer double faults than did their non-PSTT counterparts.

In order to eliminate the impact of the sample's objective merits on the evaluation results, this research built a two-stage model of Chinese airline competitiveness evaluation to reflect the subjective management and performance. In the first stage, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Factor Analysis (FA) models were used to analyze the data from 2008 to 2009. In the second stage, two kinds of comprehensive evaluation indexes in 2008 were taken as the reference index set, and two kinds of comprehensive evaluation indexes in 2009 as the current index set. The four sets of data were calculated with the Group Decision-making Model Based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) with Restraint Cone. This paper has (1) enriched the theory of airline competitiveness,(2) built a more scientific and comprehensive evaluation index system of airlines’ competitiveness, (3) constructed a competitiveness evaluation model based on BRE, and (4) conducted an empirical study of the improved model based on the 2008 and 2009 data from 15 Chinese airlines. The ranking results of the proposed method, theory and model coincide with the real conditions of the airline market demonstrating that our evaluation of airline competitiveness based on BRE is accurate, reliable and objective.

Purpose Previous studies have demonstrated that an autonomy-supportive supervision style is associated with improved well-being and positive behaviours for supervisees. However, autonomy-supportive training (AST) has yet to be tailored to suit supervisors in low-skilled occupations for whom traditional pedagogical approaches may be inappropriate. The purpose of this paper is to describe the development and preliminary evaluation of AST for these supervisors, using self-determination theory (SDT) and andragogical principles of adult learning. Design/methodology/approach SDT and andragogical principles were systematically integrated to develop (a 3 h) AST programme. The training sessions were trialled with 11 first-line supervisors in New Zealand as a preliminary evaluation of AST. The evaluation used open-ended questions following Kirkpatrick’s evaluation model and incorporated the trainer’s reflections. Findings Supervisors found AST relevant, easy to understand and suited to their approach to learning. Trainer’s reflections also provided insight into the challenges in conducting such training for supervisors in low-skilled occupations and the article makes suggestions to address these challenges. Research limitations/implications AST can be successfully tailored to first-line supervisors, indicating that an autonomy-supportive style of leadership is relevant for those employed in low-skilled occupations. This initial evaluation provides a foundation for future studies to conduct higher-level assessment of AST. Practical implications AST can be utilised to provide first-line supervisors with access to improved leadership development opportunities. Challenges of conducting this kind of training programme in a context of low-skilled occupations are addressed and recommendations made for organisations and trainers. Originality/value This study is novel as it demonstrates the development of AST, a leadership skills training, tailored to suit the needs of an understudied group, supervisors in low-skilled occupations.

Background: While pectoralis major (PM) tears are rare injuries in National Football League (NFL) athletes (previous study reported only 10 PM ruptures between 2000 and 2010), the incidence of these injuries has increased over the past decade. The impact these injuries have on a player’s performance after return has not been measured. Purpose/Hypothesis: To identify player characteristics that may predispose to PM tears and to determine the impact of this injury on return to play and performance. We hypothesized that there would be no difference in performance between the year before and after their injury. Study Design: Descriptive epidemiology study. Methods: NFL players who experienced PM tears between the years 2010 and 2018 were identified using publicly available reports. Several individual player characteristics were identified and recorded, and the return-to-play rates after injury were determined for each position. The pre- and postinjury Pro Football Focus grades of players who met inclusion criteria were compared. A paired t test analysis of the change in player performance was used for analysis. Results: In this study, 63 ruptures were identified between 2010 and 2018. Linebackers had the highest incidence of PM tear compared with any other position. Of all injuries, 79.3% were sustained by defensive players. The majority of PM tears occurred during games. Only 6.9% of players who sustained the injury were suspended for performance-enhancing drug use during their professional career. A total of 85.7% of players returned to play in the NFL after injury. Among those who returned to play there were no significant changes in player performance from pre- to post-injury. Conclusion: NFL players demonstrated 85.7% return-to-play rates and no significant drop-off in performance after PM ruptures. During the time period studied, there was an increase in incidence of PM ruptures compared with the previous decade. Further investigation is needed to determine potential causes for the increased incidence of PM ruptures in NFL players.
