The research proposed that a teacher's self-acceptance is related to the development of good self-concepts by students in Grades 3, 4 and 5. An F test was performed to test for a relationship between teacher's self-acceptance and students' self-concept. The evidence suggests that the selection of self-accepting teachers at elementary school levels is critical to the development of children's self-concept.

Fashion consciousness is an important consumers' attribute affecting their purchase of luxury products. The existing research mainly focuses on certain factors of fashion consciousness in fashion markets. This research investigates the psychological and social factors of fashion consciousness in the luxury fashion market. Specifically, we analyse how these factors affect fashion consciousness and purchase behaviour among consumers in three age groups of 18-23, 24-29 and 30-35. We find that self-monitoring and self-concept affect fashion consciousness among consumers of the age group of 18-23. We also show that media exposure has a positive effect on fashion consciousness in the age groups of 24-29 and 30-35. Accordingly, we suggest that retailers come up with proper advertising messages to influence the self-monitoring and self-concept of young consumers around the twenties. We also recommend selecting appropriate channels to enhance the exposure of luxury fashion information to consumers in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties.

Kata Kunci : teori perkembangan, significant other, self perception, konsep diri, penyandang tunanetra ABSTRACT Background: People who can't see doesn't mean that people stop working and then dampen the spirit of life. But due to the limited vision capable can making someone feel inferiority. The existence of self-esteem is going to affect the formation of self-concept. Self concept is the manner of someone observes himself as a person. Associating factor in self concept are theory of development, significant other and self perception. Objective:This aim is to find out of associated factors in self-concept on visual impairment people at Badan Sosial Mardi Wuto Yogyakarta. Method: This research used correlative description with cross-sectional study. Sampling technique used the total population that is 62 visually impaired people. Result: Statistical tests performed with Chi Quadrat, acquired that, a) there's no relation between development theory and self-concept (X2hitung=1,375 X2table=5,591), b) there's no relation between self-concept and significant other (X2hitung=0,974 X2tabel=5,591), c) there's no relation between the self perception and self-concept on visually impaired (X2hitung=3,149 X2tabel=9,488). Conclusion and Reccomendation: There are no relation between development theory, significant other and self perception with self-concept on visually impaired people. Expected the presence of advanced research by involving others variable like reaction from others, comparative from others, the role of individuals and identification to others. Keywords : theory of development, significant other, self perception, self-concept, visually impaired people

Forming rapid and reasonably accurate impressions of other people to determine the potential for threat is a crucial human skill that has evolved over millennia. That said, often these first impressions may be inaccurate as the processes underlying person perception are subject to bias. Transference is one such bias which occurs when an encountered novel individual, for whatever reason, is similar enough that he or she activates the mental representation of a ‘significant other’ which is then “transferred” to that novel individual. In particular, judgments of the new person are assimilated to both evaluations (positive or negative) as well as the specific trait content of the activated representation. The current research proposed that the self-concept as activated by self-similar stimuli can act in a similar fashion. Specifically, it was proposed that activation of the self-concept – through encountering an individual who is similar to the self – may trigger transference of self-concept-related feelings and emotions to a novel other. The current research tested this prediction in four experiments by comparing participant judgements of own self-concept with trait-related judgements about novel targets, half of which were modified to resemble the perceiver. It was expected that participants would rate participant-similar stimuli as more similar to themselves than non-similar stimuli. Overall, experimental results did not support this hypothesis in that participant judgements and evaluations of self-resembling faces did not differ significantly from judgements and evaluations of stranger-similar faces in any reliable pattern. The implications of these findings are discussed in relation to previous research on first impressions, transference, and self-concept.
