The role of different nutrient elements is well established in plant metabolism. However, different crops respond differently in relation to their growth and yield. An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to evaluate the response of sulphur and zinc nutrition to the seed yield and oil content of mustard (cv. BARI Sarisha-14). It, laid out in RCBD with three replications was consisted of four levels of sulphur (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1) and Zn (0, 1, 2, 3 kg ha-1). It was observed that 60 kg Sulphur ha-1 gave significantly highest seed yield, oil content and harvest index owing to the highest number of branches plant-1, siliqua plant-1, seeds siliqua-1 and 1000-seed weight. Conversely, 0 kg Sulphur ha-1 provided the lowest seed yield and oil content of mustard. Again, the highest number of braches plant-1, siliqua plant-1 and seeds siliqua-1 was found at 3 kg zinc ha-1 which resulted in the highest seed yield, oil content and harvest index. The lowest performance of the yield components and yield was observed at 0 kg zinc ha-1. Interaction effect between 60 kg sulphur ha-1 and 3 kg zinc ha-1 provided the highest seed yield and stover yield because of the highest number of branches plant-1 and seeds siliqua-1 and the worst yield performance was a observed at the control treatment. Therefore, the application of sulphur and zinc at the rate of 60 kg ha-1 and 3 kg ha-1, respectively could be applied for BARI sarisha-14 for higher seed yield.

Background and Objective: Sulphur and boron are found as most critical nutrient elements for the better growth and yield of mustard crop however no such concrete information for their uses in field production of this crop is yet to be reported. Therefore, an experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of agronomic biofortification of sulphur and boron nutrients on the growth and yield of mustard crop. Study Design: The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates. Place of Study: The experiment was carried out in the Crop Botany Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Methodology: Three doses of sulphur (S) viz. 0, 20 and 40 kg ha-1 and three doses of boron (B) viz. 0, 0.5 and 1.0 kg ha-1 and their possible combinations were used as basal doses. Field data were collected from periodic destructive samplings on the plant height, number of leaves and branches per plant, total dry matter accumulation and finally yield components and yield. Results: Sulphur and boron fertilizations significantly influence the plant height, production of branches and leaves per plant, dry matter accumulation and yield attributes and yield of mustard crop. The mustard crop fertilized with 40 kg S ha-1 in combination with 1 B kg ha-1 produced taller plant, higher number of branches and leaves in each plant and higher amount of dry matter per plant while these plant traits were found as minimum when the growing the mustard crops in control plots i.e. the plants received neither sulphur nor boron. Application of sulphur @ 40 kg ha-1 along with boron @ 1 kg ha-1 produced the highest seed yield (2.73 t ha-1) whereas the lowest seed yield (1.08 t ha-1) was found where no sulphur and boron were applied. Conclusion: The result conclude that combine application of sulphur and boron @ 40 and 1 kg per hectare, respectively was found to be most effective dose in enhancing growth and yield of mustard crop.

This study aims to compare the effects of different laser wavelengths, exposure times, and low-power-intensity laser irradiation on maize seeds. Seeds were exposed to He–Ne (632.8 nm) red laser, Nd:YAG second-harmonic-generation (532 nm) green laser, and diode (410 nm) blue laser. Four different exposure times (45, 65, 85, and 105 s) with different intensity (2 and 4 mW/cm2), for each laser were tested. Phenology and yield components (plant height, leaf area, number of rows per ear, seed yield, harvest index, yield efficiency, and grain weight) were determined. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Plant height was found comparatively high in blue laser light—211 cm at 85 s. Blue and green laser lights showed significant increases in the number of rows per ear to 39.1 at 85 s and 45 at 65 s, respectively, compared to the control of 36 rows/ear. The order of seed yield was blue (7003.4 kg/ha) > green (6667.8 kg/ha) > red (6568.01 t/ha) based on different exposure times of 85 s, 85 s, and 105 s, respectively, compared to the control of 6.9 kg/ha. The findings indicate the possibility of using blue laser light to manipulate the growth and yield of maize.

The present investigation was undertaken to study the extent of interrelationship and direct and indirect effect of component characters on seed yield in a set of 20 genotypes of greengram. The material was evaluated in randomized block design with three replications during the Kharif, 2017. Observations were recorded for 13 quantitative characters. Correlation coefficient analysis revealed that seed yield per plant exhibit significant positive correlation with number of pods per plant, biological yield per plant, harvest index, plant height, number of seeds per pod, pod length, number of clusters per plant, seed index. Harvest index, biological yield per plant, number of pods per plant, seed index, number of seeds per pod, plant height and number of clusters per plant exhibited positive direct effect accompanied by significant positive correlation with seed yield. Thus priority should be given to these characters during selection for greengram yield improvement.
