Background. Medical students have a significant role in improving new perspective about stem cell application in treatment of incurable diseases; such as degenerative neurologic disorders. Methods. In this descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in 2019-2020, 424 medical students at Guilan University of Medical Sciences responded to a questionnaire. The questionnaire was included the questions about knowledge of medical students about application of stem cells in neurologic disorders and stem cells donation and their attitude as well. Exclusion criteria were reluctance to participate in study and less than 20% response to questionnaire. The convenience sampling method was used. Inclusion criteria were being a medical student and willingness to participate in the project. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20 by Pearson correlation, independent student t, one-way ANOVA, U-Mann-Whitney. Results. 49.5% and 43.2% of participants had very low and low knowledge about using the stem cell. The higher score of knowledge was related to higher education periods. 70.3% of medical students had moderate attitude toward using stem cell. Only 17% of them had known the state agencies and private centers of donation. 70.5% had moderate knowledge and 55.2% had moderate attitude toward the stem cell donation. There was a correlation between the knowledge and attitude toward its donation (p = 0.004, r = 0.14). Knowledge about stem cells donation had correlation with the knowledge about its application (p = 0.001, r = 0.161). Conclusion. Although the majority of medical students have very low knowledge about stem cell application in treatment of neurologic disorders, but their attitude toward using stem cell was moderate.

A nutritional knowledge questionnaire included 51 questions was used to determine the correct, perceived and accuracy of knowledge of the participant in different aspects of nutrition sciences. Nutritional knowledge was calculated as percentage of correct responses. The nutrition attitude questionnaire included 30 questions. Both questionnaires were confirmed in terms of the validity and reliability for assessing nutritional knowledge and attitude in this sample of Iranian medical students. Results: The mean score of correct knowledge was not significantly different among externs and interns (68.20±7.50% and 67.87±6.04% respectively, p=0.729). Results showed that most of the participants (49.61% of externs and 57.14% of inters) had a poor nutritional knowledge, significantly varied by age (p=0.035). The mean attitude index of the subjects was not significantly different among externs and interns (106.37±13.66 and 108.16±13.35 out of 145 respectively, p=0.337). Most students (92.7%) had a very appropriate attitude toward nutrition, significantly varied by sex (p=0.010). These findings indicate that there are multiple deficiencies in nutrition knowledge of medical students.

Most students (92.7%) had a very appropriate attitude toward nutrition, significantly varied by sex (p = 0.010). These findings indicate that there are multiple deficiencies in nutrition knowledge of medical students.

Background: There has been growing public awareness regarding the ethical conduct of medical practitioners, and complaints against physicians appear to be escalating. After completing their studies, healthcare professionals are expected to know ethical principles and apply them in their clinical practice. Hence, this study was conducted to assess the knowledge and attitude of medical ethics among final year medical students.Methods: Cross sectional study was conducted among final year Medical students in a private medical college. After obtaining permission from Institutional ethics committee, the purpose of the study and nature of information which has to be furnished from the students was explained to them. Willingness to participate in the study was obtained from participants using written consent form. Data was collected among 135 medical students using pre tested self-administered questionnaire. The respondents were asked to grade their responses on a 3 point Likert scale.Results: Study results showed majority 87% of students felt patient wishes must always be adhered to. In contrast 65% of students felt doctors must do what is best irrespective of patient’s opinion. About 64.7% of them disagreed consent is required only in case of operations and not for tests and medications. Nearly half (47%) of the students were of opinion privacy of the patient must not be ignored for benefit of larger group.Conclusions: The fact that many respondents had neutral opinion to some questions may indicate their lack of awareness or knowledge in that area and their inability to decide. Hence there should be sufficient training classes, workshops, conferences to stress the importance of ethical practice.

Introduction: The use of stem cell has opened new avenues in the management and cure of diseases in modern era. They have enabled us to achieve remissions and cure in malignancies. They have enormous ability of stimulating the repair process in diseased and damaged tissue. As the medical specialists are a reliable source of information, so their knowledge and approach are vital in counselling the patients regarding the use of stem cells as an advanced treatment option. Aim: To assess the knowledge and attitude level about stem cells and their therapeutic applications among medical undergraduates. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out for a period of six months from January 2021 to June 2021. It included 150 MBBS students (2nd to final year) of Northern Border University (NBU), Arar, Saudi Arabia. A well-structured questionnaire was used to collect data after obtaining informed consent. It included 15 statements to assess knowledge and 10 statements about attitude. The total knowledge and attitude scores were calculated for each student and classified as poor, moderate or high score. The knowledge and attitude scores were correlated using Pearson’s correlation. Results: Majority of the participating students were males (63.3%) with mean age of 23.62±1.5. Adequate knowledge about stem cells was observed in 65.3% of students while 10% had excellent knowledge. An overall positive attitude was reported with a mean score of 36.9±3.71. There was a low positive relationship between knowledge and attitude scores with p-value <0.001 and Pearson’s score(r) of 0.396. Conclusion: The study indicates an overall good knowledge and positive approach towards stem cell use in medicine among medical undergraduates. It is suggested to organise comprehensive training sessions and update the curriculum regarding recent developments in stem cell research to further enhance students’ awareness and attitude.

INTRODUCTION: Prevention of disease is the necessity of today's life. Immunization is the most important component of preventive medicine. Knowledge and attitude of health professionals have significant role in increasing the acceptance of immunization. This study is aimed to determine the association between knowledge and attitude towards immunization and its practice among medical students and emphasis on the need of immunization education intervention among medical students. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Institutional based cross-sectional study among 397 medical students studying Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) was conducted in Universal College of Medical Sciences, Bhairahawa, Nepal. Purposively 1st to 4th year medical students were selected. RESULTS: Among 397 students, 59% had good knowledge regarding immunization, 63% had positive attitude and 47% had applied the knowledge and attitude in practice. Level of knowledge, attitude as well as practice regarding immunization was found statistically significant among medical students with their year of study. The analysis found that level of knowledge was more with 4th year students 89.47±7.92 and least with 1st year students 62.82±13.01. Third year and 4th year students had good attitude with mean score of 85.66±9.13 and 85.49 ± 9.51 respectively. Similarly, practice level was found more among 3rd  and 4th  year student, while least among 1st year students 39.89±21.16. There is statistically weekly positive correlation between knowledge, attitude and practice in overall among the medical students. CONCLUSION: The acceptance of immunization can be increased by increasing the level of knowledge and attitude regarding immunization thus providing a foundation to include a comprehensive immunization education to medical students.

AbstractBackgroundThe utilization of stem cells (SCs) has led the way into a new era of therapeutics known as regenerative medicine. Their renewal property offers exciting possibilities in reversing tissue damage caused by metabolic and degenerative changes. Research should be conducted increasingly to explore the possibilities of SC utilization in Pakistan.ObjectivesTo assess the level of knowledge, perception, and attitude of medical students regarding stem cell research (SCR) and its application, to obtain a better insight into the future of stem cell therapy in Pakistan as it is a rapidly emerging field in medicine.Materials and MethodsThis cross-sectional study was carried out using a self-administered questionnaire filled by 206 medical students from different medical colleges in Pakistan. A convenience sampling method was used. Knowledge and attitude scores were calculated based on answers to 28 well-structured questions. Data was analyzed using SPSS.ResultsThe mean values of the answers showed that 60.2% (n=124) of the students had a good knowledge and 39.8% (n=82) had poor knowledge of stem cells. Whereas, 56.8% (n=117) expressed a positive attitude and 43.2% (n=89) expressed a negative attitude towards SCR. Independent t-test applied on knowledge score and attitude showed that the mean knowledge score of people with a positive attitude is higher i.e. 21.25 as compared to the mean knowledge score of people with negative attitude i.e. 19.21. And the difference of the means is significant at p=0.007. Thus, the attitude of students was observed to be significantly dependent on their knowledge about SCR.ConclusionThe results show that medical students have baseline knowledge about SC therapy and a positive attitude towards it. Seminars, workshops should be conducted and this topic should be added to their syllabus so that they obtain proper information about SCR and encourage further research.

Comprehensive care towards geriatric health can be sustained by having good knowledge and attitude among the providers. Hence, this research aims to measure the knowledge and attitude of the final year medical students towards geriatric health and determine the associated factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted among the students using structured questionnaires of Geriatric-Attitude-Scale and Palmore-Facts-on-Aging-Quiz was used. Data was analysed using Mann Whitney U test, Chi square test and Spearman correlation coefficient analysis for the association between the score and studied variables. Median score of students’ knowledges is at 14.00 (IQR 13.00) and mean score for attitude is 48.52 (+5.53) respectively. Place of residence (P= 0.01) and presence of grandparents (P= 0.04) were the significant factors that affected knowledge of students towards geriatrics while number of siblings (P= 0.05) influenced attitudes of students towards geriatrics. Improvement of current geriatric curriculum should be done with more refined implementation of gerontology course in the basic medical learning.
